9:23 Congrats on the slickest transition I have ever seen in a NASCAR vid.
Pure 🔥
Its crazy how quickly MTJ went from having 3 wins in 10 years to winning 7 or 8 races a year and winning a championship.
What's crazy is how quickly people went from complaining about him not winning to complaining about him winning too much.
8 in 2017 alone.
“Stage Winner: M.T.J!” is forever burned into my memory
To be fair, what you forgot about the Jeff Gordon thing is that David Gilliland ended up letting Logano pass him so he could get in the top 10 in points, which would have knocked Gordon out. Gordon being added in had nothing to do with Truex, it was a reaction to Penske and FRM's shenanigans.
Yea people tend to forget the cheating Penske did cause what MWR did made it all possible.
@@smalls3187 I almost wonder if mwr was just being used as a scapegoat or example to the other teams and drivers
they didn't penalize penske because Brian France's son was a Joey Logano fan
MTJ had 2 separate careers in 1. The 1st decade winning a race for DEI (2007 Dover), MWR (2013 Sonoma), Furniture Row (2015 Pocono and somehow a championship 4 appearance). The 2nd decade Furniture Row switched to Toyota in 2016 with a JGR alliance. 31 wins (still the most since then) with a dominant 2017 championship season. Truly incredible the greatest career resurgence in history.
Martin Truex Jr. might not have ever been a champion if it wasn’t for Spingate. It’s been a great career for him and I wish him happy full time retirement!
MTJ says that he has spoken with 23XI Racing on running part time for them next year... hopefully we will see either the return of the 56 or maybe even the 78 if possible
MTJ running part-time at 23XI? YES! PLEASE!
I wish I could see MTJ in the #78 again, but I'd say BJ Mcleod would Denny/23XI to buy out the number
Truex's career is one of the most inspirational ones ever
MTJ is truly one of the best drivers of the modern era
Martin never cheated, his boss and Bowyer did.
That's what I was saying
Eh it's cool title. Didn't take it as a knock on MTJ's integrity
"How A Guy Whose Teammate Cheated Became A Champion" just doesn't have the same ring
@@EllyProductions49 Probably the title should be "Spingate Butterfly Effect"
I’d have to agree. He didn’t do anything BUT had that turmoil not happened he wouldn’t be a cup champion and I’m certain of that.
I wish more people gave Truex his deserved credit.
Babe wake up, Elly Productions just uploaded
No hun it’s too early
Babe wake up another cringe comment
🤖
Put it on the big screen baby
Just let this annoying phrase die already
Bowyer manipulates the race outcome by spinning on his own and damaging no cars: *Team rightfully gets the worst penalties in Nascar history to the point where the team had to shut down in 2 years*
Harvick does the same thing at Talladega in 2015 but also deliberately causes the big one that wrecks the field: *Nascar does absolutely nothing*
I still believe to this day the only reason Nascar didn’t punish Harvick/SHR was to prevent SHR from having the same outcome MWR had. It was alr known by late 2015 those penalties led to MWR shutting down. Still very inconsistent stuff by Nascar
They should have just black flagged Harvick after the first "accident".
Well that's the one thing that has always held consistent with nascar. Inconsistency with rules and penalties
Whats funny about the title is that it literally applies to every single championship run in the modern era, and probably most of the pre-digital scoring era

While EmpLemon got NASCAR back on my radar, it was S1ap's video on Truex that got me slightly invested in the sport. It was what during a business trip to Miami Beach, convinced me to put on the 2019 Coca Cola 600 and watch from flag to flag. The race was a mess, tons of cautions and it wasn't the most stimulating race. You know what WAS stimulating? Having Truex win the race, it's impressive how an outcome can influence one's view of a race, as the next few months would demonstrate
Alex Bowman FINALLY breaking through to get his first win at Chicagoland
Justin Haley with the biggest upset in recent memory at Daytona for Spire
Kurt Busch narrowly outdueling his brother (a person I loathed at the time) at Kentucky
DiBenedetto coming up just short at Bristol right after Leavine announced he'd be let go after the season
Jimmie Johnson's streak in the postseason coming to an end
Clint Bowyer interviewing a fan sitting in the rain sopping wet on live TV (not an outcome, but it did cement him as my favorite driver)
Elliot's incredible rebound at the Roval after smacking the wall into turn 1 and then doing a burnout ON the wall to spite it
Soon enough I'd have diecasts, I went to the 2020 Daytona 500 and planned to go to Atlanta, I began following people like Eric, I was a fan now and still am. And it's due to this guy's story of redemption and he will be missed on Sundays, thanks for everything Truex
It's a shame Truex was hated from 2016 to 18
With all due respect, Martin wasn’t the one who cheated. His teammate Clint Bowyer and MWR manager Ty Norris was the one who did so, yet Truex was the only one thrown under the bus at that time.
MTJ is my favorite driver. I have literally 30+ 78/19 die casts, helmets jerseys etc…. And it sucks he’s retiring . This season has been so frustrating. Hopefully it’s one of those Lagano/Blaney style season where he gets hot in September. That said , I think CBell is the next best thing, race style, talent , clean driver, team , etc. You’re one of my fav NASCAR YTers because of your like for MTJ. But now that this is his last season who you going to? And you’re right 2017 is def some solace especially during times like now. Great Vid!
And from that Championship he was solidly in the Big 3 in 2018. I smile when I see glimpses of his Intermediate dominance. While I didnt LOVE it then, it is a reminder of better times and some incredible storylines
Really loved the DRG music during the final act of the video.
It's just so good to see an actual great Nascar channel, not like the insane amount of lazy other ones...
I remember getting to be in attendance at Spring Richmond 2019, and getting to see Martin get his first win for Gibbs, but also his first short track win. I remember everyone being so happy he held of Logano as just a slight bit of redemption from the previous Fall
MTJ silenced the doubters
I know this video came from a personal place as a fan of his, but really liked the "butterfly effect" video concept and format. Could be fun to do as a bit of a series, I know I'd enjoy seeing more of this type of video
This is truly the Martin Truex of all time.
In all seriousness, I miss seeing the #56 car in the Cup Series along with the #29 & #39 cars.
Why do i feel like now because of this video MTJ's gonna win at New Hampshire tomorrow? He's got good odds to
I remember one time at Chicagoland on like lap 6 they flashed up on the screen “winner Martin Truex Jr” and he ended up winning the race, guess they were trying to save people some time lol
"Do i have a tire Going down?"
"Yea sure, why not?"
Hey man, just found and fell in love with your content. Thank you for devoting your storytelling prowess and editing touch to NASCAR content ❤
Hey man, just wanted you to know that your content has inspired me to start watching NASCAR! I’m now spending quality time with my father every Sunday, grilling and watching the race, thank you for the quality content and I’m looking forward to more in the future!
After Martin Truex Jr announced his retirement, I knew this video was inevitable
After all of this, after this season me and my science teacher are gonna miss our favorite driver. 😭
Excellent episode. Your love for MTJ shines through. Apologies if this is a topic you already covered, but an Elly Productions episode on how JGR essentially (and debatably) put FRR out of business would be a great topic to cover. Thanks!
Did not expect to find deep rock music here but I’m not complaining. ROCK AND STONE
MTJ will forever be the GOAT
PS: I miss Michael Waltrip Racing
I miss furniture row
@@crouchb15 Them too
9:23 that transition goes o hard
Oh, when the fallout chapter card pops up and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" starts playing in the background... nice editing bro.
mtj has always been one of my favorite drivers ever since he lit up the charts in the Busch series, and even with this blemish on his career, he is still one of the top talents in nascar and I was too sad to see him announcing his retirement because its just one more pillar to fall from my childhood. But hopefully mtj can run some Busch series races for jr motorsports like the old days and come full circle to help bring some much needed closure on such a historic career.
That Coke 600 win is what made me a Truex fan. Just an ass whooping through and through, and it'll be nearly impossible for someone to take that away from him
Didn’t expect to hear Deep Rock music here thats amazing
ROCK AND STONE MINER
MTJ truly got screwed by Spingate... until it started to shine the path to glory for him
New video from Elly is all we needed to make our day
i hope you had fun making this one. hoping that monday martin magic strikes again before the year it out
A gamer said a no-no word and ended up winning a championship on the top team in Nascar
Sad that it's over, happy it happened. Thank you, MTJ ❤️
That editing at 9:22 was so clean
There was something so satisfying with seeing a flat black car with an unusual number 78 winning races. Genuinely miss those days
The 2017 nascar season will always be how a underdog can do the unbelievable
Dude. Literally yesterday I was watching the total team control video you made and I thought, “ he should really make a video on how Martin truex won a title and his troubles along the way” I can tell your futures
Incredible driver with an incredible career!
Best of luck on searching for you next favorite driver
Lol just discovered your channel 2 hours ago. I'm from germany watching F1 and DTM since the early 2000s. I find that sport very weird, I don't understand the point system nor this thing with playoffs all over american sports. But very interesting and learned about the all time heroes and weird things in an already weird motorsport for me from your videos. Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna are still the best race drivers for me ever. Period. But these NASCAR guys are also cool. Great work
I'm not gonna lie dude, I don't even watch racing but your videos have made me start to "get it". I genuinely look forward to your videos even though they're not really in my wheelhouse. I mean no shade, I'm a wrestling fan lol.
I'm not happy about him retiring the end of this year. He's too good. I mean fuck he got (damn near) all of his wins in his second half of his career man, almost 40 wins and a championship in 9 years, 9 years after his rookie season. He's fucking awesome.
Richmond was of the races I watched with my grandpa. I don't know how, But i remember it. This was I think my first race I watched actually. I was 4. I thought newmans car was cool looking and I didn't understand what had happened. I completely forgot about him mid 2016, and then in 2020 he had that crash and I remembered him, got into the sport, and mid 2023 i was finally able to watch the races, started rooted for Blaney, and he won the championship that year. Bandwagon maybe, but still a fan nonetheless.
I became an MTJ fan when I started watching NASCAR and the 2017 season was a fairytale
AC2 music spotted, and so my new fav NASCAR uploader
From a Truex fan to another, we had a good run and will always have the 2017 season to look back on
Damn, Truex started to look like Prime Johnson at 1.5 mile tracks.😭
This is my favorite channel on YT. Keep killin it Connor.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this happens all the time with multicast teams. I can also confidently say that other teams do it so so much better than MWR did. All they had to do was talk about team orders in pre race meetings. Good lord what a colossal screw up.
And the irony is, he is one of the few dual champions of both the old latford and playoff systems in the same year too
I take issue with making it seem that Truex cheated since he wasn't involved in the actions, he just got the short end of the stick, losing his sponsor and ride; but in the long run it worked out for him becoming one of the best drivers for the past decade. His championship was probably one of my favorite just because of how much crap he dealt with.
Martin got the worst end of something he didn't even do, it was every other driver from the team that year
Clint Bowyer
Brian Vickers
Michael Waltrip
kyle larson made a rerun of this story with his “incident” when he was with chip ganassi
Truex is my 3rd favorite driver behind the busch brothers and is the only one from my state, god im going to be sad to not see his name anymore
One of the classiest drivers in NASCAR, and it won't be the same without him in it
Just imagine what would’ve happen if spingate didn’t exist. Would NAPA even sponsor Chase Elliott?, Would Martin Truex, Jr. even win a championship?, Would Furniture Row Racing still be a mid-pack team?, We’ll just gonna have to question.
You’re gonna make me start watching nascar bro
NBC Booth every 10 seconds: He's retiring
Fans: Take a Drink
I was saying that Spingate got MTJ his championship months ago...
Life can wait, Elly just posted

Babe wake up new Elly video just dropped
The 56 was the best looking Napa car ever
Cheating low-key is underatted in sports bro, it's Cinema honestly
Didn't know that NASCAR had their own Crashgate
I’m still convinced Napa only used the cheating scandal as an excuse to jump ship to Chase
What a video Brother! 🙏🏽 love live MTJ!!! ❤
MTJ vid boutta go crazy
Truex never cheated, he was completely oblivious to the entire scheme. His entire team went with him over to Furniture Home Racing, doubtless due to the bullshit that occurred. I also remember that NAPA was pissed about the whole thing and basically needed convincing from Hendrick and Chase Elliott to stay in the sport.
Martin Truex Jr was never a cheater. It was Bowyer and his boss that cheated. Hell, I don’t even know if Truex *knew* about the scandal at play.
Elly vids are always top tier
What if instead of nascar we called it freaky car and instead of pit stops they just came on each other?

bro what🤣

MTJ would certainly be proud of this video….. 🏎️💨👏🏻
This is some goddamn good editing my dude

Michael Waltrip Racing had… problems.
DRG music in a NASCAR vid is a strange vibe
Thank godness Mark Martin left from the team earlier.

A Miracle
Hilariously Cute Success Story
Great Presentation
how do you always do these awesome thumbnails
“If you aren’t cheating you’re not trying hard enough” - somebody who might’ve been cheating
Don’t forget Truex only led ONE lap in 2014.

3:25 two future fox sports broadcast members Jamie little and Clint bowyer ( I say future because at the time they weren’t at fox sports)
Martin should have 2 cup championships! He went to easy on logano!
