I loved that. It really showed that death is a natural part of things and that not everything needs to be a result of something unfortunate and tragic. It teaches the lesson without it being hurried. You got attached to Fumi in a slow burn rather than pinning an important aspect onto her character relative to the plot.
I genuinely think her spirit should have been the source of the Yujou Burst Eyecon that Necrom got, like how Takeru's father was associated with Ghost's upgrade.

My problem with Ghost is that it kept breaking its own rules throughout the series. The whole point was this guy who died and had to collect the McGuffins in order to come back to life, but he kept getting another chance to do it. THEN they introduce a whole new set of antagonists close to the end of the series.

I've said it many times and I love ghost so much, but I will stand by this statement: this show I think is very fun however I do think it's very lacking compared to other rider seasons. Characters are very predicable, the plot is too standard, and I would say most background characters kinda blend in. With that said the reason why this show sticks out to me cause I feel that Takeru sticks out so much and I still think to this day he's one of my fave main riders. I really like seeing him in crossovers alot. I think one of the things that makes this show really good for me is just being the first series that got me into Kamen Rider in general. Ghost is not the perfect season, but it has a story that I enjoy enough that I'd rewatch anytime I of the week. Once again I wanna thank you so much for making this video, you gave so much info and backstory to the history of this series. Thank you so much for giving some life to Ghost.
Kamen Rider Ghost is a great example of what happens with too many cooks in the kitchen with no plan set. It's a mess. An interesting mess with cool visuals but a mess nonetheless.

I genuinely liked Kamen Rider Ghost for the most part. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, especially the final battle. It was over in the blink of an eye, and it just felt anticlimactic. None of those descriptive words should ever be used in Ghost. Story wise, they were doing a good job setting up the story of Takeru racing against time to save his own life, to save the Earth, and to protect those he cares about. Action wise, they had been setting up some amazing fight scenes, as you said. So it just seems so weird that they'd phone in the ending rather that giving the audience something they can savor. But like you said, if this this is as low as the franchise can get, then we're still in good hands and Kamen Rider Ghost is still a good show. Enjoying something doesn't mean you have to like every little aspect.
You're right. You're absolutely right on that. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and it shouldn't matter. There has been a lot of good Kamen Rider... but with Super Sentai, it has some good and bad. And bad for obvious reasons like Ninninger. You're not wrong in regards to toy sales. All Toku is pretty much merchandise driven. Sentai has had many instances where toy sales were just bad. I wait for when you do shows like Timeranger and LuPat. Believe me, I'm going to have a field day telling my thoughts.
honestly i adored ninninger, it was funny campy and silly, sure the idea around it didn't make much sense for ninja but that's actually what drew me in, it was a cast trying, and failing, to be true ninja, but still doing good and protecting people, finding their own way, that to me is the whole message of the show, not fallowing the convention of a title and doing things your own way, also surprised to see you here megamanNG, loved your codename steam letsplay :)
Alain's development of him being taught by the old women about listening to your heart and life during his redemption is the only thing I appreciated in this whole show, other than that Ghost really is one of the biggest mess in the Kamen Rider franchise.
Imagine a rider that uses a scarf and it switches position and uses according to his "modes." Maybe he even gains a different fashion item and all that.

I managed to enjoy it by accepting that Takeru isn't going to grow, he's the paragon that inspires others to greatness. If you can accept that in the protagonist you might find something to enjoy here.
The Good: I love kamen rider ghost! I love the Buddhist aspect of ghost. He was who he was from start to finish, kind of like goku, never really changing but changing those around him. His eyecons being the colors of the chakra points the first 7 I believe. Grateful ore damashii looking a straight up Buddha with his crown, especially his rider kick with the enlightened symbol. His mugen damashii was his ultra instinct form imo angelic symbolism becoming a higher state of self, I only wish that they put the eye symbol over the horn, as like a awakening his third eye. The use of the villain adel as the opposite of takeru was smart he was in the root chakra as his color was red, also wanting to root everyone to himself. His use of the lotus flower as a symbol of enlightenment but red enlightenment in the wrong direction. The suits the fights all top notch. Both of the secondary riders were great enjoyed both of their characters. Kamen rider ichigo was chefs kiss. The Bad: The head monk and his constant screaming. Akari’s constant denial of the supernatural even though she seen it multiple times. Some of the eyecons were not heroic to say the least, would have liked if they were going to use the ones they did, go into the good and the bad of the eyecons and takeru learned to except both parts of them. Prince Alain being a jobber in almost all his defining fights, love the guy and his character but I felt he deserved better, a new form maybe that looked more rider like so he could compete. The twin makoto was Ok, just didn’t need it, it got to confusing at times. I get that it was a face who you use to be scenario but Idk. One of the big problems were the gammaizers they kept coming back, it got annoying. When they die they should stay dead, then one remains to see adel method as flawed then takes over from learning and becomes sentient continuing from how it went from there. Adel learns his mistakes but gets taken over anyway etc.. Other than that I loved the show seeing takeru always want to help people with their problems with their family because he didn’t have that in his life to a degree was endearing. Having takeru be a empath to feel others emotions, were true to his character and how he saw the good in everyone. His motto about life shining brightly I felt that.
Totally agree on Goemon Damashii, biggest eyesore suit in the franchise. As for the season itself, I'm not angry…just disappointed. Ghost felt like an odd season at the beginning, but when it seemingly resolved its whole plot in episode 11, it had the perfect opportunity to do more, which I though could make it the best season. And then it just dragged and I got bored with it. That's my opinion on the season as a whole: it dragged and I got bored of it. The first round of Eyecon searching was neat, but the second wasn't; Specter was interesting in the first part, and then he became a joke; Necrom's redemption in the early middle was good, and then he became a joke; the Ganmaizers were the only worthwhile thread holding me to the season during the second half or so, and then they turned generic in the final episode in an overdubbed line that could easily have been replaced with a different overdubbed line more in line with their previous characterization that would've fixed the whole thing without any need to change the visuals seriously it would've cost like five dollars to fix-but no, that's not how it went. Oh, and Adel's failed attack on the temple where he lost most of the Ganmaizers was cinema gold and possibly the best moment of the season. No, wait, that's the reveal of Yurusen's true identity. Anyway… Ghost currently sits in my lowest-ranking tier among all Rider seasons, and while it has the fewest bad things of seasons in that tier, it also has rather fewer good things than other seasons, and in fact perhaps the fewest 'things' overall; despite this, if I gave it a score in a vacuum, it would sit at a solid 6/10, still a failing grade, but not "it shouldn't exist", it's just most other seasons do better. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Ghost wasn't a season of no potential, it was a season of squandered potential. Disappointed.
This is such a good take, and I agree completely. I've been rewatching shows from different eras (currently doing Faiz, Ryuki and Build all at once), and they're all so different, but I like at least one thing from EVERY Rider show I've seen. They're not all my favorite, and I do DISLIKE some, but I don't hate any, because each one has a couple good factors to it, whether its an episode, a character, a suit, etc. Kamen Rider is a show for kids that people of all ages can enjoy, but I don't think you can actually hate a series.
My biggest problem with this is just that Ghost feels too kids show like mid season and it felt like it pushed the toys to much. It feels to silimar to Yo Kai Watch (While Good) with its "slice of life" feel to it, Pokemon Sun and Moon Anime (At least its first half) also felt too "Slice of Life", I soon gave some love again with Ash finally winning the league and it's battles. I soon respected Ghost for its good concept and later half and its summer movie.
Yeah, alot of long running franchise dunno why become fall victim of trying too hard to be youkai watch. Pokémon in sun and moon, Kamen rider with Kamen rider ghost and not even Digimon is safe with their Applimonster (dunno if their Ghost game will go down the same line).

This was a good little pseudo-review of Ghost, you did good focusing on the positives(though you kind of slipped around the final stuff mark), and the reference bits were good. I personally call your 'All Toku Is Good' mantra as words to live by, and I liked your refreshing take on Ghost. I give this review a score of 4.5 out of 5 stars. There are a small margin of us that genuinely love Ghost. We know the season was not the best and we all agree that the show should have been handled better but we don't care about the negatives most of the time. If you want a personal negative from me, I don't think Fukada should have been the head writer if he knew his schedule was going to be a mess. I think Hasagawa or Mouri should have been hired as the head writer's but oh well it is what it is. I also wish people would leave Mugen damashii alone, it is the final form because it took out the gammaizers where as Greatful damashii couldn't even beat them. Your super form is supposed to be the anti thesis of this group of villians and it freezes up like it doesn't matter? What? That's not how you market your super form at all if it can't do it's job. You want a substitute for Mugen damashii instead go for tenkitoitsu damashii there problem solved.
I really loved Ghost, and its later Reiwa "sister" show Saber. I adore Ghost's themes and ideas, I love that this video *begins* with this message regarding opinions and fan reactions, because Ghost is such a lightning rod for those discussions, and yet what I took away from it means so much to me and me alone. These shows mean different things to everyone, and sometimes, they just can't connect with something the same way that other people do. But as to Ghost itself, the characters and lore are a big part of why I liked it as much as I did, and there's a lot of further reasoning, I just really like this shiw personally.
The reason Ghost feels so boring to me is the something you touched on, how felt like it should've ended at Episode 11/12 - the initial big bad he was fighting was less a monster and more his own fear of death and not having a life well lived, and his sacrifice to save the sister really closed out his character arc. Everything that happened after that point was like what happens when a popular show that was only planned for X number of seasons gets picked up for more due to popular demand and writers are like "ok, so we finished off all the plotlines and gave all our characters appropriate endings with the finale... *how* do we keep this going?" By continuing the show past that very natural end point, and giving him another 99 days, they invalidated all the work they'd done with setup, and removed any potential consequences. I remember thinking as it happened, "so what if he doesn't get another wish at the end of the second 99 days? Some magical thing will happen again with willpower or love or some ancient relic saving him again, it'll probably be how he gets his Final Form."

Pronunciations for some of the names: Alain = Ah-LAHN Javert = Jah-vair (like in Les Miserables) Also Alain is my favorite character. He actually felt like he had some progression and turned out to be a really nice guy.

Just finished Ghost so I can finally watch this video! After watching it, I can say that the hate I see for it online is nowhere near appropriate or proportional to how Ghost is a season. It was middle of the road, with some ups and downs. But I still appreciate it.
I fully agree that Ghost had very awesome concepts that were poorly executed.I really love how the Riders used Parka Ghosts and how it made the suits fashionably appealing. Also, Houdini Damashii is my favorite form because of how it incorporated the Machine Hoodie bike into the form's component. I kinda wished to see more forms like Houdini with equipments like that but nah, sadly we didn't get any of that. Also, the Captain Ghost ship and Iguana Ghostriker were underused no thanks to budget restraints too like, goddangit. As for the Legendary Rider Damashiis, I LOVE THEM, especially with Ichigo and Heisei Damashiis. There were also too many characters that became unnecessary in the show's long run. Shibuya and Narita, the servants, were just kinda there for reasons, Kanon was utterly useless, even though she got a nice develpment and became her own Rider, Kanon Specter on the crossover spin-off, and even I kinda felt that Makoto was much less nuanced than Alain was. Alia/Dark Necrom P was totally underused as she could've had the potential to become a badass female Rider. I also had some more ideas that I think would be interesting to be used in Ghost, namely: 1. The 15 Eyecons were divided into 5 for each three main Riders, all corresponded to their respective color gradations, which will make it into: - Ghost: Musashi, Edison, Billy the Kid, Goemon, Himiko - Specter: Tutankhamen, Nobunaga, Houdini, Newton, Ryoma - Necrom: Grimm, Sanzou, Robin Hood, Beethoven, Benkei 2. Makoto loves playing guitar and at some point sang an accoustic version of Ghost's OP, and Alain became a Takoyaki seller to honor Fumi, although at first he must learn the ropes from Fumi's next to kin. 3. Javel replaces Shibuya and Narita as Onari's servant. He still got roped into Onari's shenanigans, but still a dependable fighter, regardless. 4. Akari tinkered with the MegaUloader technology and created a MegaUloader for her, Onari, and Javel to transform into Dark Necrom Y, R, and B repsectively. Together with Alia and Alan, they became the Necrom Corps. 5. Grateful Damashii can also be used by either Specter or Necrom as shared forms, as well as granting a power boost for any Damashiis that were being used instead of reverting the other Riders back to their basic forms. 6. Using the 15 Eyecons as Eyecon Driver G and his weapons, Ghost Mugen Damashii can conjure the Grateful Saber that was also made up of the other 85 Eyecons as well. 7. Yuujou Burst should've been on the series instead of just the V-Cinema spin-off 8. Zero Specter should've been even far more powerful than Deep Specter by having him being the first one to use the power of the Deep, and Makoto had to train under him to proceed in the movie. 9. It'd be cool if both Zero Drive and Ichigo Power-Up's suits shared the same alloy as Ghost's suit, being supernaturally powered by the user's will. Hence why they shared the same black colors.

I havent seen ghost but from this video it looks like ill enjoy,but my goodness hearing the ghost abriged cast again makes me smile so much

I really want to watch Ghost, its op is def a top three for me. But I’m not sure if I should dedicate my time to it.

I managed to enjoy it by accepting that Takeru isn't going to grow, he's the paragon that inspires others to greatness. If you can accept that in the protagonist you might find something to enjoy here.

The Good: I love kamen rider ghost! I love the Buddhist aspect of ghost. He was who he was from start to finish, kind of like goku, never really changing but changing those around him. His eyecons being the colors of the chakra points the first 7 I believe. Grateful ore damashii looking a straight up Buddha with his crown, especially his rider kick with the enlightened symbol. His mugen damashii was his ultra instinct form imo angelic symbolism becoming a higher state of self, I only wish that they put the eye symbol over the horn, as like a awakening his third eye. The use of the villain adel as the opposite of takeru was smart he was in the root chakra as his color was red, also wanting to root everyone to himself. His use of the lotus flower as a symbol of enlightenment but red enlightenment in the wrong direction.
The suits the fights all top notch. Both of the secondary riders were great enjoyed both of their characters. Kamen rider ichigo was chefs kiss.
The Bad: The head monk and his constant screaming. Akari’s constant denial of the supernatural even though she seen it multiple times. Some of the eyecons were not heroic to say the least, would have liked if they were going to use the ones they did, go into the good and the bad of the eyecons and takeru learned to except both parts of them. Prince Alain being a jobber in almost all his defining fights, love the guy and his character but I felt he deserved better, a new form maybe that looked more rider like so he could compete. The twin makoto was Ok, just didn’t need it, it got to confusing at times. I get that it was a face who you use to be scenario but Idk. One of the big problems were the gammaizers they kept coming back, it got annoying. When they die they should stay dead, then one remains to see adel method as flawed then takes over from learning and becomes sentient continuing from how it went from there. Adel learns his mistakes but gets taken over anyway etc..
Other than that I loved the show seeing takeru always want to help people with their problems with their family because he didn’t have that in his life to a degree was endearing. Having takeru be a empath to feel others emotions, were true to his character and how he saw the good in everyone. His motto about life shining brightly I felt that.

Totally agree on Goemon Damashii, biggest eyesore suit in the franchise. As for the season itself, I'm not angry…just disappointed. Ghost felt like an odd season at the beginning, but when it seemingly resolved its whole plot in episode 11, it had the perfect opportunity to do more, which I though could make it the best season. And then it just dragged and I got bored with it. That's my opinion on the season as a whole: it dragged and I got bored of it. The first round of Eyecon searching was neat, but the second wasn't; Specter was interesting in the first part, and then he became a joke; Necrom's redemption in the early middle was good, and then he became a joke; the Ganmaizers were the only worthwhile thread holding me to the season during the second half or so, and then they turned generic in the final episode in an overdubbed line that could easily have been replaced with a different overdubbed line more in line with their previous characterization that would've fixed the whole thing without any need to change the visuals seriously it would've cost like five dollars to fix-but no, that's not how it went. Oh, and Adel's failed attack on the temple where he lost most of the Ganmaizers was cinema gold and possibly the best moment of the season. No, wait, that's the reveal of Yurusen's true identity. Anyway… Ghost currently sits in my lowest-ranking tier among all Rider seasons, and while it has the fewest bad things of seasons in that tier, it also has rather fewer good things than other seasons, and in fact perhaps the fewest 'things' overall; despite this, if I gave it a score in a vacuum, it would sit at a solid 6/10, still a failing grade, but not "it shouldn't exist", it's just most other seasons do better. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Ghost wasn't a season of no potential, it was a season of squandered potential. Disappointed.

This is such a good take, and I agree completely. I've been rewatching shows from different eras (currently doing Faiz, Ryuki and Build all at once), and they're all so different, but I like at least one thing from EVERY Rider show I've seen. They're not all my favorite, and I do DISLIKE some, but I don't hate any, because each one has a couple good factors to it, whether its an episode, a character, a suit, etc. Kamen Rider is a show for kids that people of all ages can enjoy, but I don't think you can actually hate a series.

My biggest problem with this is just that Ghost feels too kids show like mid season and it felt like it pushed the toys to much. It feels to silimar to Yo Kai Watch (While Good) with its "slice of life" feel to it, Pokemon Sun and Moon Anime (At least its first half) also felt too "Slice of Life", I soon gave some love again with Ash finally winning the league and it's battles.
I soon respected Ghost for its good concept and later half and its summer movie.
Yeah, alot of long running franchise dunno why become fall victim of trying too hard to be youkai watch. Pokémon in sun and moon, Kamen rider with Kamen rider ghost and not even Digimon is safe with their Applimonster (dunno if their Ghost game will go down the same line).

This was a good little pseudo-review of Ghost, you did good focusing on the positives(though you kind of slipped around the final stuff mark), and the reference bits were good. I personally call your 'All Toku Is Good' mantra as words to live by, and I liked your refreshing take on Ghost.

Ghost is one of my favorite Rider season
There are a small margin of us that genuinely love Ghost. We know the season was not the best and we all agree that the show should have been handled better but we don't care about the negatives most of the time. If you want a personal negative from me, I don't think Fukada should have been the head writer if he knew his schedule was going to be a mess. I think Hasagawa or Mouri should have been hired as the head writer's but oh well it is what it is. I also wish people would leave Mugen damashii alone, it is the final form because it took out the gammaizers where as Greatful damashii couldn't even beat them. Your super form is supposed to be the anti thesis of this group of villians and it freezes up like it doesn't matter? What? That's not how you market your super form at all if it can't do it's job. You want a substitute for Mugen damashii instead go for tenkitoitsu damashii there problem solved.
Kinda sad we didn't get the Drive version of Ghost.
That scene with Fumi & Alain just makes me cry everytime it's one of the most emotional Kamen rider scenes I know of

I really loved Ghost, and its later Reiwa "sister" show Saber. I adore Ghost's themes and ideas, I love that this video *begins* with this message regarding opinions and fan reactions, because Ghost is such a lightning rod for those discussions, and yet what I took away from it means so much to me and me alone. These shows mean different things to everyone, and sometimes, they just can't connect with something the same way that other people do. But as to Ghost itself, the characters and lore are a big part of why I liked it as much as I did, and there's a lot of further reasoning, I just really like this shiw personally.
I just notice that with this writer the best part of the series is the story arc of a Green Rider

The reason Ghost feels so boring to me is the something you touched on, how felt like it should've ended at Episode 11/12 - the initial big bad he was fighting was less a monster and more his own fear of death and not having a life well lived, and his sacrifice to save the sister really closed out his character arc. Everything that happened after that point was like what happens when a popular show that was only planned for X number of seasons gets picked up for more due to popular demand and writers are like "ok, so we finished off all the plotlines and gave all our characters appropriate endings with the finale... *how* do we keep this going?" By continuing the show past that very natural end point, and giving him another 99 days, they invalidated all the work they'd done with setup, and removed any potential consequences. I remember thinking as it happened, "so what if he doesn't get another wish at the end of the second 99 days? Some magical thing will happen again with willpower or love or some ancient relic saving him again, it'll probably be how he gets his Final Form."
During episode 6 when it went silent I kept thinking my headphones weren't working.

Also Alain is my favorite character. He actually felt like he had some progression and turned out to be a really nice guy.

After watching videos of people using the drivers... I gotta say the Ghost Driver makes me think of a cassette player... From the way it opens to the way the DX toy itself makes an ungodly ammount of noise as you put the Eyecon in it, lol.
Man, I didn't think there would be so many clips of Kamen Rider Ghost Abridged. Now I kind of wonder how many clips from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Abridged will appear in the History of Ex-Aid.
Just finished Ghost so I can finally watch this video! After watching it, I can say that the hate I see for it online is nowhere near appropriate or proportional to how Ghost is a season. It was middle of the road, with some ups and downs. But I still appreciate it.
I fully agree that Ghost had very awesome concepts that were poorly executed.I really love how the Riders used Parka Ghosts and how it made the suits fashionably appealing. Also, Houdini Damashii is my favorite form because of how it incorporated the Machine Hoodie bike into the form's component. I kinda wished to see more forms like Houdini with equipments like that but nah, sadly we didn't get any of that. Also, the Captain Ghost ship and Iguana Ghostriker were underused no thanks to budget restraints too like, goddangit. As for the Legendary Rider Damashiis, I LOVE THEM, especially with Ichigo and Heisei Damashiis.
There were also too many characters that became unnecessary in the show's long run. Shibuya and Narita, the servants, were just kinda there for reasons, Kanon was utterly useless, even though she got a nice develpment and became her own Rider, Kanon Specter on the crossover spin-off, and even I kinda felt that Makoto was much less nuanced than Alain was. Alia/Dark Necrom P was totally underused as she could've had the potential to become a badass female Rider.
I also had some more ideas that I think would be interesting to be used in Ghost, namely:
1. The 15 Eyecons were divided into 5 for each three main Riders, all corresponded to their respective color gradations, which will make it into:
- Ghost: Musashi, Edison, Billy the Kid, Goemon, Himiko
- Specter: Tutankhamen, Nobunaga, Houdini, Newton, Ryoma
- Necrom: Grimm, Sanzou, Robin Hood, Beethoven, Benkei
2. Makoto loves playing guitar and at some point sang an accoustic version of Ghost's OP, and Alain became a Takoyaki seller to honor Fumi, although at first he must learn the ropes from Fumi's next to kin.
3. Javel replaces Shibuya and Narita as Onari's servant. He still got roped into Onari's shenanigans, but still a dependable fighter, regardless.
4. Akari tinkered with the MegaUloader technology and created a MegaUloader for her, Onari, and Javel to transform into Dark Necrom Y, R, and B repsectively. Together with Alia and Alan, they became the Necrom Corps.
5. Grateful Damashii can also be used by either Specter or Necrom as shared forms, as well as granting a power boost for any Damashiis that were being used instead of reverting the other Riders back to their basic forms.
6. Using the 15 Eyecons as Eyecon Driver G and his weapons, Ghost Mugen Damashii can conjure the Grateful Saber that was also made up of the other 85 Eyecons as well.
7. Yuujou Burst should've been on the series instead of just the V-Cinema spin-off
8. Zero Specter should've been even far more powerful than Deep Specter by having him being the first one to use the power of the Deep, and Makoto had to train under him to proceed in the movie.
9. It'd be cool if both Zero Drive and Ichigo Power-Up's suits shared the same alloy as Ghost's suit, being supernaturally powered by the user's will. Hence why they shared the same black colors.
