  • So let's talk about a few things. I wanted to put a video out about this new deal that is in place. I know not everyone will be happy and you can come after me for trying to explain why there are more good points than bad but it is what it is. I will put a link in the description that should take you to a very helpful article that I was referencing. I think this is an important deal for the future of our sport. I can only speak from the side that I know which is how this business works and what we have to think about as a group. Please always know everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion I just want you to be open to maybe accepting some true information about what could be good about it and that everything is not ALL bad. Hope you enjoy!

I am SO STOKED for this!! This is a great deal. That TV time is such a boost for sponsors, especially potential sponsors and manufacturers cause now they're gonna see that the series has ALL races on FOX and would be stupid to not say, hey we wanna ride with Indycar and give them a new engine and or chassis and new/more big time sponsors. Not to mention that there's been talk of needing a new car for 2027. INDYCAR is in a fantastic spot to flourish and right the wrongs of the dreadful open wheel split in '96😢 that ultimately led to NASCARs popularity spike and overall financial superiority.

As a kid who grew up without cable and still doesn't pay for TV, it's utterly astounding that people don't realize that regular FOX is a free channel. You can go to any hardware store, pick up a digital antenna, then plug it in to your TV and scan for channels. Sorcery! They don't know what it was like to watch Sesame Street, Dragon Tales, CyberChase, Wishbone, Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman, all that good stuff. You can watch most NFL games on free TV too, you don't need NFL Network to watch your team's games when you're in its regional viewing market. This is the most accessible way to watch sports, you don't have a monthly subscription fee, you don't even need internet, just buy a TV and an antenna and your set. Hell you could even watch while camping or on the lake!

People know about fox and digital over air broadcast. Many are too stubborn to “go back” to antenna tv. I’ve used digital broadcast since 05 when first came on. Before then I used analog over the air. Digital over the air is at a higher quality definition too than digital cable, dish, or stream. That’s something many don’t know about.
The Issue is you only get FS in a bundled pay for pkg. Whereas Peacock, while it had other content, the base price was only $6 mo. YT tv as example, has FS 1 and 2 but it’s $73.00 per mo.
Problem is FS 1 is not over the air. That’s where all the nxt quals and practice will be. For all I can tell

@@inglewoodwhbThere is a web site where it lists at your location all the digital broadcasts in your area. And the signal strength you can expect along with the direction of the broadcasting station. It’s interesting and helpful.
Digital antenna may say Omni directional but it still has a stronger aim in certain directions. So aiming the antenna will help along with hight How high matters too just like the analog antennas did.
I put mine in attic. Some DTV antennas come with a booster and they can make a difference.
Love my antenna tv. Especially when contract negations between comcast or dish or whoever and my local stations cause a disruption of service to all the stubborn. 😊

As someone who has recently retired after spending 49 years in television, I think you've gained enough broadcasting/media experience to explore the possibility of working with the FOX team. Podcasts, LVGP, SRX ... with those experiences, it's time to move into a more regular gig. You are great with the younger viewers and can be quite an asset to gain that segment, and FOX as a network, skews to a more youthful audience. Yes, still pursue a ride, and of course next year's 500, but start talking to the suits at FOX. I think this is great for Indy Car. I think it's the smartest decision to end before the NFL season and one of the reasons people love the NFL is because it is so short. So that is good.
My issues with the Fox NASCAR Broadcast are as follows:
    - Too many random shots of non-action while drivers are fighting for position. Who the heck cares if a guy is eating a hot dog.
    - Tight shots of cars when multiple cars are fighting for position. Show the wide angle.
    - The use of a ghost car during qualifying taking the mystery out of if a guy will win the pole
    - The use of Michael Waltrip and Clint Boyer. We don't need ADHD broadcasters!
    - The fact that xfinity and truck broadcasts are remote. Announcer need to be at the track to understand what's going on. It's just Fox cutting corners. If they don't want to put in the time and effort to get the broadcasters to the event, then don't do it.

Even though this doesn't directly impact the TSN deal for Canada (which they do place a few races on their streaming only service, which is a paid add-on, not included with TV subscription of their cable channels)... having all main races on FOX means I'll never miss a race as a Canadian cable subscriber, and I'm perfectly happy with that. I'd love it if Fox Sports Racing up here was able to pickup practice/qualifying/nxt... but at this time it sounds like that won't change (IndyCar prac/quali on TSN+ streaming only, and IndyNXT on RevTV a niche cable channel). Look forward to seeing how it goes for 2025, and hopefully it is a positive cause I otherwise 100% realize and agree with the points you made about consistent viewership and better for sponsors by having the main races 100% on network TV.

To me, Indycar had to do something different. NBC was a great partner for a while but they seemed to have mailed it in of recent and only cared about the 500. It's never going to be a perfect deal but it does tick a lot of boxes. Ending in August means you gotta start sooner maybe a week or two after the super bowl. I get you have to find track/s that want Indycar and it's gotta be a good climate but worth a shot. Any attempt for races after August would have to be on a Tues/Wed night when there's zero football on. Let's see how it goes and hopefully the changes Miles talks about for 2026 schedule are why the 2025 one looks the way it does. Gateway and Iowa at night always

Great for IndyCar! Maybe not so great for me personally. I primarily watch on NBC. When races are not on NBC, I watch on Peacock. I also like to tune in to INDY NXT, practices, and qualifying on Peacock. I don't always watch intently, but I like having it on in the background in case something exciting happens or they interview drivers. For that alone, it is totally worth $7 even though I don't use Peacock for anything else.
To move all that content to a cable package (not happening), Venu (~$50/month), or CZcamsTV ($60/month), that is a HUGE jump in price. I don't see myself getting into other sports which help justify that sort of cost. If you're already into that stuff I can totally see this as an absolute win! But if you're me, I see myself watching only races on FOX and cutting out all the extras.

Marshall Pruett was reporting that NBC also made an offer that included having every race on network TV. So if that’s true, that means they had the ability to reap the benefits of a network TV deal, and retain the same broadcast team and streaming partner. Instead they chose Fox, presumably because of the bottom line.

My first reaction to the Fox announcement was VERY negative. As I’ve looked into it further, I agree there are a ton of positives for IndyCar. My biggest concern, like so many others, is Fox’s handling of NASCAR but that could be alleviated with some of the talent from NBC coming over.
Specific issues with Fox’s NASCAR coverage outside of the commercials, they tend to zoom in on one or two cars for extended periods, which doesn’t provide a wider picture and a better view of the overall racing. They cut away from ongoing battles in the middle of them, they often miss accidents or lead changes due to commercials. Beyond that, there are times that Fox really doesn’t treat it like a top level series.
However, if IMS Productions is involved as suggested, that also could cure some of my concerns.

I never signed up for Peacock and don't have cable. My only option to watch live events is over-the-air. For everything else, I go to highlights or replays on CZcams.
I'm thrilled that my favorite teaching series will be on big FOX. I get that there's concern about how bad Fox has been with NASCAR, but this complaints are typically related to poor production/direction. As I understand it, IndyCar does its own production through IMS Productions, the network brings the on-air talent and graphics.

Like I've said before, the six-month off-season has been one of the problems. I think the season should go until at least the middle of October. Ending in August, the other major series keep going for another two or three months. Whatever momentum you had is gone, because the casual fans move on, and then you have to win them back the next year. That's been my complaint with the schedule for years. Well, that and the shortage of ovals (but that's another subject for another time).

Schedule could be better but that's... IMO outside the scope of the TV deal. Maybe if we get more support we get more tracks. Then we'll have to deal with complaining about being on cable!
I was afraid of the Fox deal when it was supposed to be significantly FS1/2. That was going to be bad. All network - I personally don't care but this is huge for the teams, sponsors and series. And more money? Big, big win. 500 qualifying on network TV, I hear? massive. Most underrated watch in all of motorsports.
Peacock was straight up bad. I liked the quality, but they'd put commercials over the racing (particularly side by side) and replay wasnt' available for houuuuuurs after a race.
Thermal points: Sigh. I'm against the 'automotive country club' movement for a bunch of reasons. If it keeps shredding tires, maybe it's an interesting full length race. However, for a points race, they're going to need some expanded spectator options.

Nashville has been a night race in the past, and I believe Milwaukee either has lights, or would be capable of having them, to say nothing of track like LVMS, or Phoenix.
