5 SLOW COOKER MEALS | PERFECT WEEKDAY FAMILY MEAL IDEAS | KERRY WHELPDALE

- Today I am sharing 5 slow cooker meals. I cooked these all last week when it was the school holidays as thats when for me slow cooker meals are the best, when you have been out all day and need dinner ready to serve when you walk into your home in the evening :)
SLOW COOKER USED: amzn.to/2W9faFR
MEALS - all quantities are to feed 4 people
SLOW COOKER BEEF:
500g Diced beef
3 Carrots
1 Onion
4 Garlic Cloves
1 knob Ginger
3 Spring onions
2 tablespoon Soy
1 tablespoon Sriracha
3 tea spoons Brown sugar
2 teaspoons Cornstarch (mix together with some hot water to form a paste and then add that to your dish)
Sesame seeds
1 Beef stock
200ml Red Wine
1 Cup Rice
SLOW COOKER CREAMY CHICKEN:
4 Chicken breast
5 Garlic Cloves
1 Onion
1 Veg stock
200g Creme fraiche
150g Sun dried tomatoes
300g Spinach
1 knob Parmasan
New potatoes
SLOW COOKER JACKET POTATOES:
4 Jacket Potatoes
Any leftovers from the fridge :)
SLOW COOKER TIKKA MASALA:
4 Chicken thighs
1 Onion
5 Garlic Cloves
1 tablespoon Garam Masala
1 teaspoon Turmeric
1 teaspoon Cumin
1 tablespoon Curry powder
1 Peppers
1 Passata
200g Plain Yoghurt
1 Cup Rice
SLOW COOKER LASAGNA:
500g Beef mince
1Onion
4 Garlic Cloves
1 tin Chopped tomatoes or passata
1 Veg stock
250ml Milk
150g Flour
1 knob Butter

I have been using slow cookers since the 70's. Its a great device and difficult to make a disaster, and VERY safe. My go to for stews!

Good job! A recommendation! If you put the foil pockets (open) of jacket potatoes into a hot oven for 15 minutes after it’s slow cooked it crisps up the skin a dash of butter salt and pepper and herbs it’s absolutely 😋

I’ve become totally obsessed with my slow cooker, after having baby numver two I feel like it’s made my life so much easier! Sometime I cheat and get the packet mixes such a steak and ale stew, so easy and convenient!!
I also do lots of cheat cooking too.. I never make my pastry.. buy the ready to roll and I think cheating is totally acceptable and nothing to be ashamed about.. if everyone eats it.. you are a winner :) xxx
Wow! You are now the official queen of slow cooker meals as far as I’m concerned! I bought my first ever slow cooker a couple of months ago and haven’t used it much but the baked potatoes are genius and I’m definitely going to try the lasagne, another great video! 👍🙋♀️👏

Some great recipies, I have a pressure cooker that slow cooks too! Think about getting one as they're extremely useful

I have prepped the chicken curry tonight, marinating in the fridge until morning then throwing it all in slow cooker. (I dont have time to prep it in a morning) smells so good. I can't wait to try it for tea tomorrow. Thanks Kerry for sharing brilliant recipes 🙂

@@KerryWhelpdale I've never had a slow cooker before, and just getting used to it. We had a beef stew earlier in the week, and currently slow cooking a small gammon joint. It's smelling good. I'm wanting to become a bit more adventurous with recipes though, a learning experience.

I love using my slow cooker it’s on right now cooking a lovely Chicken Curry, I love the look of the 1st recipe the Slow cooked Beef that looks like a nice weekend dinner especially with the red wine 🍷 I keep meaning to make some Jacket Potatoes in my slow cooker I bet your house smelt amazing X
I love the j let potatoes in the slow cooker.. you can crisp them up in The oven after but they are just delicious even straight out the slow cooker :) xxx
Hi there Kerry, these are great, thank you. I'll definitely be trying them out. Not strictly a slow cooker recipe but I made Jambalaya this week (search for chicken and chorizo recipes and it comes up on BBC Good food site) I put it in the slow cooker just after I added the rice as I needed to elongate the cooking time for my convenience and it was really lovely xxx
Oohh that’s a great idea.. I was actually thinking of doing this with a bolognase I need to cook.. I want to do it Saturday morning but only eat it Saturday night so I’m going to do that too :) xxx
After you've slow cooked the jackets you can freeze them individually for future use x
Just made the beef casserole dish. Omg amazing 🥰. I did change it slightly didn’t have any Siracha so used some chilli flakes instead and I also added half a teaspoon of Chinese five spice x

Thanks for being my ‘Guinea pig’ for the jacket pots lol! Although I’ve got a microwave (couldn’t live without it when it comes to whacking in some baked beans or steam fresh veg, but I’m disabled & don’t always have the ability to stand over a hob sadly!) & have only ever known to cook jacket potatoes in the oven. It is a faff but I’ve honestly never known any different. I remember in my teens being baffled people cooked them in the microwave haha!
But yes, excited I can now cook some in the slow cooker! Loved hearing about the pastes too x
Oh well hopefully now you know to cook them in the slow cooker this will help even more :) I’ve since cooked them in my slow cooker so many times and they come out perfectly every time :) xxx

Did the beef on Monday and we all loved it. My 19 mo daughter picked out all the pieces of beef to eat on their own when she had dinner but ate everything all together when it came to stealing off my plate!

Aahh so glad you liked the look of it :) white sauce is so easy to make.. just a knob of butter then some flour to make the butter into a ball and then slowly add your milk whilst whisking :) always makes a yummy white sauce :) xxx
I always do a big desert spoon of butter and the same of flour, then about 500ml of milk

Apparently if you want your jacket spuds to be crispy, you roll up the foil into balls, put the potatoes on top. Then for the last 30mins lift the lid slightly. No idea if it works but I’m going to give it a go now you’ve reminded me. Thank you x

I have the smaller capacity slow cooker, I’ve been meaning for AGES to buy the bigger one (with my two boys now eating adult meals). This has inspired me to finally get it😂👍🏻. Really looking forward to trying these meals😍😍.
Yes my friend had the smaller one too and it just means you can’t really make enough for leftover too and our family loves a left over :) I also think.. if I’m making the meal I may as well make extra as it saves me cooking again!! Lol xxx

The lasagna was literally the BEST!! I cooked mine for 7 hours on low, but you could cook it for 3-4 hours on high too :) xxx

Yes defo use quorn mince instead.. I would still cook it for the same length of time to make sure you get all the yummy flavours mixed together :) xxx

These look great any ideas with no onion my husband has crohn's and cant eat onions at all he also has to limit his vegetables to carrots
I am sure these would work just as well with no onions too.. can he eat garlic? I always add so much garlic to my meals!! Lol!!! Xxx
I love all your videos your meals always look so delicious. I made a curry in the slow cooker once and found it quite watery. Did you like the slow cooked lasagne is it worth putting in slow cooker when you have to cook everything ready anyway? Just curious xx
I did wonder this before I made the lasagna but for you have to do all these steps anyway when making lasagna before putting it all into the oven.. and as we were then out all day the slow cooker was before for this as it was ready when we got back.. plus.. I actually think it tasted better in the slow cooker.. so so yummy :) xxx

You could always pop the jacket potatoes into the oven to crisp skins whilst you are cooking the toppings etc
Yes exactly.. put them in on grill for 5 mins would be good.. they are really delicious even though they aren’t crispy though!! Xxx

Yes you can defo freeze them all.. the creamy one might split at first when you are defrosting it but then it will come together again :) xxx
The lasagne looks awesome! Was it hard to serve up? That is what always puts me off - actually getting it out of the slowcooker !!

Just wanted to share with you that I recently upgraded my slow cooker to include a browning element which illuminates one of those pans you have to wash if you brown thing separately. It wasn’t horrible expensive and it makes a huge difference for me. I even use it for just making soups on top of the stove to keep them warm after they’re done. The brand I bought was Cuisinart but I’m sure there are other brands that are just as good. Love your videos and thank you for sharing.
