Thank you for this. Dawn has always been accessible and truthful. I always thought that she was treated badly for being honest.
Dawn is my favorite vocalist out of en vogue as well. She's fantastic, so much soul. Her solo album was sooooo good. It should've gotten way more recognition. I know the version of don't let go he is speaking of. Dawn closes the song out riffing and it's amazing. Try the original set it off soundtrack. That's where I have it.
I know that version also. How she ends that song is a master class of how to end a song and make sure everyone knows this is "my" signature song.
What a group! Those ladies can sing. They're all beautiful and very talented. And, Yes, Dawn was my secret crush.. 💯😘
I want the four original members to get back together in 2021
If possible but it may not happen i wished but it doesn't seem realistic
Ikr ice 🧊 does not go in wine 🍷 and that’s what it is
That would never happen.
Why do I have keep hearing from Dawn Robinson and her blaming Cindy Herron & Terry Ellis for her leaving En Vogue. Then blaming her leaving Lucy Pearl on group members. Now Maxine Jones has declined to comment on her relationship now with Dawn. According to Dawn she has not taken any responsibility for her part with three groups. She was the one always being abused and misused. Enough of her throwing blame elsewhere and owning her own shortcomings. Enough already Dawn okay!
Clearly you did not and have not listen to all of her interviews. She clearly is not blaming them for anything. Dawn was the youngest in the group and she became aware that they were not being paid fairly, just because she spoke up and wanted them to get the money they so dearly deserved. Dawn story has not changed....what it is that the other ones are trying to be politically correct and not speak about the problems. They had three record deals on the table and the other three picked Rufftown, instead of going with Warner Brothers. Cindy and Terry specifically had this loyalty to Foster and McElroy, but they did not want to see what was the obvious.. You Joseph Powell need to listen to her interviews again....that is why in 2021, she is going to establish her solo career herself and then maybe, her and the group can come back together. Chike!!!! get this man together please!!!!!
@@ashanti-chereecombsez4306 I have heard numerous Dawn Robinson interviews. It saddens me that she is following in the same paths that Mary Wilson formerly of the Supremes has been going over the last several decades by complaining that Berry Gordy and Diana Ross caused the demise of the Supremes to no avail. Mary Wilson did not have the vocal talent to maintain the Supremes whereas Dawn Robinson is certainly vocally talented to sustain a solo career. Why has Dawn wasted a couple decades whining about how she felt she was mistreated by EnVogue and Lucy Pearl and etc. I don’t understand why such a vocally talented singer like Dawn Robinson has not signed with a record label, gotten a producer and songwriters and released her own albums as a solo artist. What is she waiting for? She definitely has the talent so she needs to stop whining because it does not not help her.
Her timeline of their journey sometimes can be way off… More than 10 years ago (May 2013) En Vogue members Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron gave an exclusive interview, explaining the final departures of now former group members Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones for original En Vogue lineup. They gave their side of the EV saga while still fresh, and done with humility and very respectful; it appears they own the part they played… believe they didn’t want to destroy the En Vogue brand, did what their contract agreement said regarding settling irreconcilable group disputes. There were no winners, but with a level of remorse by Cindy and Terry this was a regrettable experience; by 2014 they had been awarded by the Court arbitrator, legally the sole use of the EV name, months later on appeal by Maxine, first ruling was upheld, again no winners but sad outcome 😔

"Waitin' On You" is still my top favorite En Vogue jam that I still
listen to today!!!! I loved the original En Vogue and Dawn was my
favorite because of "Waitin' On You" and her energy she brought to En
Vogue! Rhona is talented, but the original En Vogue with Dawn and Maxine
was FIRE! I just think if Terri and Cindy would give Dawn and Maxine an
apology and maybe even bring in someone like Iyanla Vanzant to make
everyone face their truth and get to a peaceful place about everything
that went down. Terri and Cindy see themselves as having already moved
on, but En Vogue could be a hot group right now. They are a working
group right now...and that's it. It seems like that's all that matters
to Terri and Cindy - just work. Whereas if they brought Dawn and Maxine
back, En Vogue would be on another level right now than they are now.
En Vogue now just doesn't have that FIRE! They are simply three ladies
that can sing now. I hope Terri and Cindy will one day put themselves in
Dawn and Maxine's shoes and see the role they played in the trauma that
broke the original En Vogue down. And it was trauma. Terri and Cindy
doesn't seem to acknowledge the trauma. Now they are only focused on the
money. When Dawn was focused on the money for the entire group, they
didn't have her back. None of it makes sense and that's why En Vogue now
is just a working group and nothing more than that. The original En
Vogue was special. Even if they keep Rhona and bring back Dawn and
Maxine as rightful co-owners, En Vogue will be 500 times better!
Very entertaining. Eagerly awaiting the book :-)
Me too.
You'll be waiting a while...
i think he’s referring to the Fulton Remix of “Don’t Let Go” it isn’t mixed as well as the original version. it’s more of a dry vocal on top of a beat and you can clearly hear dawn’s riffing & running towards the end (after cindy’s part)
Thank you for sharing that info. I love, love, love this group! Never heard that version.
I enjoyed how you are a fan and asked questions from that point of view.
There are several different versions of "dont let go " I remember the first one I heard on the radio , I didnt even realize it was en vogue until halfway through the song. It had less instrumentation and you could hear the piano prominently throughout the whole song . I know which version Chike is speaking of too because Dawn ad libs all the way out to the end.
Dawn Robinson!! Is totally a leader and not a follower.. In this show business world woman who wear that hat' They love to label her the B. word.. it's too bad the other ladies in the group can't take a note from that.. instead of allowing the powers to be' and everybody else around them benefiting more from their work. Terry and Cindy own the. En Vogue' with that credibility it has given both women a taste of greed and control' that motivates them not to share with Dawn and Maxine.. I was so sad to hear about the Maxine situation that took place at Yoshi's in Oakland.. That was cold blooded.. Dawn all I can say to you is no weapon formed against you shall prosper.. Take care of that voice!! And that beauty.. Cuz your time will come.. For all that plays dirty' Karma is a mother!!!!
Now that details of her fallout with Max been revealed I'll be curious to see what Dawn's haters have to say next.
That was shocking
im confused, so Max took all the money that was meant to be paid for herself, dawn and the band?, or only Max got paid ??
She song off beat. She had a bad attitude BLA BLAH BLAH
Dawn has all these problems with people but it’s always the other person’s fault. Hmmm
I never go along to get along...that part!! That's right Dawn!! F*** that. Now I understand why the girls and other people saw her as "difficult " WHY is it that if you're not a pushover or someone who stands up for themself, you're labeled as DIFFICULT....especially a black woman!
They said that about Monique
why do you interviewers do more talking and butting in than letting them speak?
He is a superfan, not a trained interviewer. Interviewing a person is a learned skill. No disrespect to Chike.
I love Dawn but some of these people doing the interviews with her they come off very inauthentic and messy there's no need for the interviewers to shade Rhona that gets very annoying and disrespectful but that's my opinion they should be very professional
Why not write the book first, then do a few interviews with CZcams podcasters, bloggers to kickstart, promote, and reintroduce herself after missing from industry sene for number of years; better yet why not do promo tour, hit the big platforms like Vlad, R&B Money Podcast with J Valentine & Tank, or the Breakfast Club with DJ Envy, Charlemagne tha God... she’s one of the 90s legends and so many EV fans of the originals would be excited to see, hear what’s she been up too… definitely would reach millions of viewers on such large platforms, including old EV fans. Also, doors of opportunity for her caliber of talent bound to open for her, if that’s what she really wants and trying to achieve, having already done so many at home CZcams video-interviews with unknown, low key bloggers; this is fine for getting feet back wet, it NEVER too late to go after our dreams, have to be focused, stop looking into rearview mirror, let the past be a life lesson for motivation moving into next chapter, close the door🚪 shut! Then it’s time to dive into the deeper end of the waters🌊🌊 Wishing Dawn the best moving forward 🐸🦋
Every En Vogue video, I was looking at Dawn. 😏🔥🫶🏽
So, you're a Dawn fan, and have never been an En Vogue fan. Noted.
Another interview I hope she coming out with new music
I want them to make up so bad!
Yes, for the culture! 😊🎤 It would really be epic.
Dawn did voice over work for the Rugrats. Don't know why she's not mentioning it.
Andrea Romano is the one who usually coordinates voice overs for Justice Leuge,Batman TAS and Boondocks
I am of Nigerian descent. If people keep saying “Chike”, then maybe he *should* write as “Chiké” for western countries he’s in contact with in the industry. He can’t go on correcting people making them feel bad and awkward, expecting them to automatically know a name that is rare to them that they have not heard phonetically. My aunt’s called “Kehindé” and she has always written it this way.
*CHIKE………………CHIKE‼️‼️‼️‼️* lmao 😝 NEVER HEARD IT PRONOUNCED like that b4. Glad he quickly corrected her. But then again there r probably ppl in the world called CHIKE‼️‼️‼️‼️
It’s funny how she talks about Raphael doing her wrong but now she is blocking fans on social media after they donate to her website or Cashapp
She did me that too🤣 I thought I was the only one. She’s crazy!
You're always a problem when you want to redo the contracts..
They don't like it when you question the contract... they just expect you to sign on the dotted line blindly
I don’t understand why Cindy was okay with the contract. I know Terry was dating the Producer but what did Cindy get out of the deal? She married wealthy but why work for pennies. I’m still lost on that one.
@@marriejames01 It's like Dawn said, they didn't really understand their worth....she tried to tell them to hold out on a better contract. But they didn't listen. Dawn wasn't the go along to get along type of person, she speaks up for what's right and fair, but if that labels her crazy or difficult then oh well!! There was also jealousy towards Dawn from day 1 from the group members. I don't understand that... they're all great sin
U can renegotiate your contract when its up or if you gain power while within your current contract..
She should not have sign that first deal and the other members should have been united and fought to get out of the old contract..
@@marriejames01 I wonder how Cindy and her husband made their relationship work . She was on the road and he was an athlete . Who was home to raise the kids ?
I can see both sides. I agree with Dawn about renegotiating and getting paid their due. The other ladies were probably just happy to be getting money while doing something they loved. The other side of this is that Dawn left the group and the other ladies kept going and kept the name alive. Max left, too, so I don't understand why Dawn can't understand why Cindy and Terry feel the way they feel. I also, want to say the lady that is apart of En Vogue now has been with them for 13 years, none of this is her fault so there's no reason to hate on her.
According to Dawn, Max was originaly fired first time round. Can't rember which interview she mentions that (shes done so many!)
Dawn didn't leave the group the lady that worked at the label they. we're signed too put her out the group
@@valeriaturner3494 She gave her an ultimatum b/c the other ladies had already signed off. Dawn said she wasn't signing and that was that. She left.
Dawn not hating on Rhonda Bennett she got kicked out the group during their career in 1997 because she seen bs for what it was she was protecting their group plus she stood up to the lady that was the head woman in charge of the label they were signed too so she wanted Dawn out the group and the girls helped her put Dawn out ok... First of all you don't do that especially when Dawn sung their biggest hit so stop hating on Dawn cause she's tell her truth exactly how she was treated badly and how it was no artist have to lie about what they went through with the music industry... So I loved En vogue as a group back then I was nine then when they came out . I will as love and be a big fan of Dawn's and will always have her back
Dawn was right for not signing that's with any Artist if the deal is An bad deal after you read it .... Why sign it when it's a B S deal but then if you sign it you're in it...
I have two friends that lost both of their fathers that got the virus from a family member’s and care giver so I disagree with you dawn but I still love you.
I don’t agree with her neither.
@@cortezmiller1899 Yeah there is something going around and it has a name. Covid. Haha
He’s talking about “Whatever” not “Don’t Let Go”
47:36 time stamp for me.
Lol. I stayed rewinding that part. I died when she imitated Terry saying that she's taking a bath. Lmao
she spilled some serious tea, I was INVESTED like it was a Novella.
I get slayed too. Whoa
How does she feel about Coming 2 America
1:38:15
😮Looney Dawn admitted that she signed away her rights to future royalties when she made that failed attempt at a solo career. Some clueless people swore up and down she didn't.
Love Dawn but I disagree on her take on the virus. It is as bad as they’re saying. I know several people who have died from it. Friends of mine also know of people or have family who have died from it. It’s serious.
She never said that it wasn't serious .... Some one person that worked in a nursing home had the virus and she gave I to a client and he died with it... They know not to come to work that's at any job some people died from the flu or other sickness before this virus started people flying from foreign countries bought whatever sickness they had there here some people died from it before this virus.
Rifftown Records guys came to the contract signing wearing Steve Harvey suits. For an act of their caliber, they had trash subpar management. Reggae artistes get more than $3000 to perform. Dawn go down to Jamaica and work with some talented young producers
Wait a d&@m minute! Did she say “sit Max”??? Did she name her dog Max??? Thats a whole new level of petty. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So that band has never been paid?...A session musician depends on that money...to feed their families...The promoter can clear all of this up, by coming forward, and saying were the money went..janky business practices...I don't know who to believe here...Maxine has a side I am sure her's, her's and the truth
Good interview. Admittedly bias. I actually take Dawn side on all her points about the business mistakes. That issue is a no-brainer. The other girls were just desperate and stupid in business, although they'll never admit it. But that being said,, I think its messy to be telling her she was the best singer. Even she didn't want to get into that kind of mess. Her beef with the girls is strictly over money. Why lure her down the road of trying to rank their voices? Don't get me wrong, Dawn was/is an amazing talent. But why compare them and pit them against each other creatively and vocally? I don’t think Dawn was comfortable with that part of your interview. She just didn't want to mess up your flow, since you were worshipping her so hard. They were all in their respective lanes of greatness. No one could do "Giving Him Something He can Feel" but Dawn. But No one could do "Dont Go" but Terry. Cindy had the best perfect pitch on top soprano. Max had the dense heavy sulty delivery perfect for the bottom harmony. Terry gave you maximum gospel versatility and range. Dawn gave you pop appeal but could belt and was probably the most radio friendly at the time. And Dawn was right about riffing. None of them gave you runs and riffs. Not sure what you meant by that. And neither did Dawn. Truthfully, Cindy probably had the runs in her voice if they'd went in that direction. And Terry and Dawn had the capacity to riff if they had been produced to do so. Dawn probably had mezzo soprano range riffs. And Terry had also riffs in chest alto. Good interview overall and thank you for posting. Definitely respect your insights. I think the interview would have been better without trying to tell her she's a better singer. I dont think that accomplishes anything for her. I take Dawn's side on the business dispute. But I am not big on putting their talents against each other.
Dawn wasn’t even their best singer. Her voice was just the most unique. Terry and Max could and would sing her down.
@@lisabonae I know what you are saying. I just can't bring myself to say who is better. They were all 10s when placed in the right moment and package. Dawn and Cindy were more pop and radio friendly.. Cindy was straight ahead pop. But I dont see Cindy having a strong R&B solo sound. And you can tell she was self conscious about that. But Cindy had perfect soprano blending on the harmonies. I believe she had the closest to perfect pitch in the group, which I believe is really the signature En Vogue sound that they will be remembered for. Max and Terry were straight up gutt wrenching soul, gospel textured voices,, which is my own personal taste. I don't see either Terry or Max having strong pop careers individually. Terry had the most range, depth and strength in her belting chest voice, which I LOVED. Terry, however,, probably blended the least, again, if I'm splittong hairs. Dawn probably had the widest range but perhaps the least accurate with innonation. (I'm totally splitting hairs). I personally think Cindy was the most accurate singer, but the least dynamic. I think Max has the best tone, but the least range and dexterity to her voice. I think Terry had the best natural voice but the least of them in blending. I think Dawn had the most versitile voice. Heres the best analogy I can make. Max..Stephanie Mills. Cindy...Donna Summer/Streisand. Terry...Patti Labelle. Dawn...Chaka.
Like Chaka, Dawn could have been rock, pop and hip/R&B
Looks wise, they were all 10s. Terry..naturally beautiful. The wife that will never lose her looks. Cindy...All American beautiful and refreshing and palatable to all. Dawn...strikingly hot. Maxine...sexy..grown and sexy. I can't declare one better than the other and I don't see a reason to. But as far as how they each handled the business and professional relationship, I am team Dawn. Very disappointing to hear what the other girls did over time, and not willing to fess up. And at this point, Dawn owes them nothing. Dawn should make every quarter she can off her story....tell all books..whatever. She deserves to tell her story and get her full restitution from what happened. Now maybe my mind will change when I hear the other's versions of the story. But until then, I full support Dawn.
Dawn once said herself that Terry was the best singer in the group. The group was already formed once Terry came to the audition. The producers decided to let Terry's sing anyway and they were contemplating choosing her over Dawn, but they ultimately decided to keep all 4 of them. Yet, let Dawn tell it, she was this huge threat to everyone. Please.
@@LibraVibez I don't doubt that. If your talking about solo lead singer capabilities, I agree. Terry does it for me too. But Dawn could probably do soprano harmonies that Terry could not. When Dawn sang soprano harmonies, she blended better than Terry, which helped create that En Vogue sound. Terry was a good lead singer, but probably the weakest blender. That's why I can't put any member over the other. I do personally like Terry's voice the best individually. But I can't say she was more valuable or better than any other group member.
@@DT-we2ye thank you for not taking sides. I am with you on that. I love them all and making cold distinctions is something that I can't do. They each had something that the other didn't.
she's a full on soprano.
A mezzo soprano is not a type of soprano. Lyric, spinto or dramatic soprano are types of soprano..a mezzo is a different vocal category.
think she is a lyric soprano
She is completely wrong about COVID
@@cortezmiller1899mezzo means half soprano. It overlaps with the soprano and contralto voice. A good mezzo will have a brassy metallic voice thats strong and rich in the middle and warm and full at the top. She can't stay high for long periods of time. Sopranos have a weaker middle but strong at the top.
A tell tale sign for me is if the sings mid range mostly but hits a high note occasionally then mezzo. If the singer is waiting on a high note or to take it up AND it sounds easy then soprano.
Soprano: leontyne price, renee fleming,
Mezzo: dolora zajick, grace bumbry
I totally agree her voice is to light to be a Mezzo
(❤️)😉
Wrong. Rhona, Cindy, and Terry blend beautifully together.
But they don't have hits with Rhona. I look at the current En Vogue as a cover band of the original En Vogue.
They make it work but Its nothing compared to what it should be
@@DT-we2ye Regarding the lack of hits: Music styles have changed. And the smaller record label that they are assigned to doesn't have a lot of money to promote them. Lack of record promotion will doom an artist. Truly they were very special before. The intro of "Mover" let's you know no one can compare. However, Dawn shouldn't pretend that these three ladies can't harmonize beautifully together. It's evident in their rehearsal videos for "Yesterday" and "Just Can't Stay Away."
@@UniversalMokenTroll "Rocket" is top 5 as far as vocal arrangements in EV songs. Those harmonies with Rhona doing those contralto runs!🎆🎇✨
I LOVE RHONA BUT SHE'LL WILL NEVER BE DAWN...
Dawn sounds more like a lyric soprano & she lies about having 5 octaves.
Don’t Let Go imo is not their biggest hit . Never Gonna Get It and Hold On to me are bigger hits
In terms of sales and chart positions it absolutely is there biggest song.
Jimmy ivine Pisces. Dawn Sagatarius not good partnership wish never dealt with each other
This interviewer is annoying. let the woman speak her piece without interrupting tf 😒
Seriously.
Chike is about to kill Dawn 😅
