You joke but that is basically the plot of Hamilcars novel. "I got bonked by a rat and now my life sucks"
These new skaven look pretty good, they'll look even better on the sacrificial altar. This message has been brought to you by Sotek priests.
Sotek is going going to love this
The older clan rats looked more armoured, almost like a Stormvermin from Vermintide. Can't wait to see the new Stormvermin.
2:19 Ugly?! How very dare you, sir! Skaven are adorable pretties and I would die for them!
I mean if I lived in the Mortal Realms or the World of Legend, I probably would literally die for them, but that's neither here nor there.
Skaven waifus are in demand.
So I was looking over the new rules previews, and in AOS 4e you can have up to 5 regiments of individual characters supported by 3 units each (or 4 for the general). So a maximum of 16 units in a legal army. No other restrictions.
Clanrats come in units of 20.
Technically, if someone was insane and devoted to the Great Horned Rat, you could bring a completely legal army of 16 groups of clanrats.
You can bring 320 rats. And 5 heroes. 325 rats.
The Vermintide approaches yes-yes!
You can have more than 16 units, you just have to take them as auxilaries.
About the Viking thing, yes, absolutely. Me and a coworker were just talking about it because it just hit Netflix.
I recall seeing some where that it feels off because they condensed a few hundered years of viking legends/history into basiclly a couple of decades
They look good. Honestly clanrats didnt really need an update but these do look nice.
But Plague Monks and Nightrunner kits BADLY need a resculpt.
The entire eshin line desperately needs a redo. I can sort of live with plague monks looking ugly as sin, they're plague monks after all, though I do hope for an update. But the ENTIRE eshin line looks so, so bad, especially since they're very 'clean' for Skaven. There's like, the deathmaster, and that's it I think?
Completely agree, I was almost hoping Clanrats wouldn't get refreshed because of everything else that needs updated - even if I am very happy with how they look. The plague monks have aged, but nothing has aged as poorly as the Nightrunners. The fact that they, of all units, aren't in the list of things that are going is just wild.
But seems likely we'll get updated plague censer bearers, and if the Underworlds warband is anything to go by they'll look great. Dual kit for monks/censer bearers would be great, if unlikely.
Haven’t gotten into AoS yet, but the new Skaven are definitely what’s going to get me into it
FOR THE GREAT HORNED RAT BAYBEEEE 🐀
They look good. I can't wait to give these guys a battle with my Corvus Cabal... oh, wait.
I really appreciate that they're not so overly goofy. With the right paint scheme, these will be properly grimdark.
The background for Skaven has always been grim dark especially their original story. 🐀🐀🐀🐀
Another nice little attention to detail is that some of them are right-handed and some of the are left-handed
All great horned rat! YES-YES
5th yet most powerful of all-all Gods of Chaos! Praise-worship the GREAT HORNED RAT! 🐀🐀🐀
Old clan rats were made for Fantasy so had to have a more tucked in profile for the old rank and file playstyle of fantasy. These are allowed to have more dynamic poses.
Yeah, it's a trend I'm seeing in New AOS miniatures. Probably for the better, although transporting them without them bumping into each other will be a pain now
Skaven
Scavenge
That one took me twenty years to realize.
Yeah those Clanrats are 15 years old. They came out in 2009 alongside their updated army book. It's way time for them to get an update.
Also I've only just noticed how old the banner bearer looks. He looks like he'll sit you down and tell you some tales, like the time he was thrown at a liberators face and survived. By contrast the champion looks a younger fresh recruit taking command for the first time.
... 2009 was 15 years ago...
oh gods... *starts to crumble to dust* Sigmar... save me...
@@mistformsquirrel 🤣 yup they're almost as long as my hobby career.
Check your maths... 2009 can't be 15 years ago.... Please check your maths... Please....
@@joeflitton8034 I wish I was wrong. But 9+15=24 😅😂
@@madmerlinsart hmm.... Nah something isn't right there. Think your calculator might be wrong.
*me getting killed by a clan rat with a bell as a storm cast eternal, sigmars greatest warriors.*
"I can't wait to die again so I forget that."
I’m still shocked both you and Valrak missed Little Horus last week dude
Tomorrow!
@@KiriothWere you also going to review the White Scars Stormseer Consul?
They are good...but there was nothing wrong with the old ones. Unlike the Plague Monks, who are still going to be sold...
Plague monks aren't perfect but they're a serviceable kit. Clanrats didn't need updated, even if these look great. But the fact that Nightrunners are still around is insane...
What i really love about these clan rat is that the personality mention is due to the fact that there are some who suppose to be clan pestilence clan rats with the boils and sickness while other are esshin clan rats with the rouge mask so you can build the rats to fit your subfaction
I knew he was a Skaven ! The beard gave him away , as well as his love of pink things lol 😂
What I like about them is that you see elements of the Great Clans in their design. Like imo you can see Eshin, Moulder and Pestilens visual elements incorporated in them.
I'll always have a soft spot for the skaven. They were my first Warhammer army. See back in Fantasy, a Skaven warlord could be quite dangerous if you kitted him out right. High weapon skill and high initiative, mixed with a weapon that buffed his crap strength? Surprisingly deadly.
The old clanrats were first introduced in the Isle of Blood battle box against the high elves. It dropped before the death of fantasy.
On behalf of the "old"ones, I gotta say they chose the WORST angle possible to make look better the new ones lmao
I was never a fan of rat rats, only in Warhammer total war series, but I actually really like these, I mean a lot.
Those are some adorable rats!
I do like that they've made them look legitimately nasty. Skaven typically run the risk of coming off as goofy, like "oh, look at the silly rat-people" but these ones lean nicely into the vibe of them just being wrong, like something that isn't supposed to be the way it is.
The current Skaven Clanrats were released when the WFB 8th edition came out, so at least between 10 to 15 years old now!
*Yes, yes*
Alexa-thing, play-start the Ghost! The Rats! song!
More than the details, I think it's the poses that make a difference compared to the old ones. The old Clanrats were decent enough for what they represent, and they were part of the wave that introduced the recent design Skaven are still following, being first released in Island of Blood and later as their standalone box.
Definitely an update where I won't feel bad putting the old ones in with the new ones, though. Which is good, since I managed to get my hands on a ton of the old ones last year, both from the Skaven vs Sylvaneth box and an eBay haul with multiple Blood Island sets worth of Skaven.
Luckily, the base size means they can be easily set up to pull double duty in both AoS and ToW, where I can actually put this many Clanrats to use.
Tiny Rat Bois with *TINIER* Rat Bois!
I totally forgot the range culling they just had last week
They remind me of the rats and thugs from wind and the willows, the one where David Jason plays toady
I hope we see more models then what's in the trailer!!!!
Thanks for that Vikings bit. Weird, weird stuff.
Totally agree with your assessment of “Vikings”-
I’ve never heard a better description of the later seasons. 😆
I think the less hairy rats are younger and as they get older and survive they develop more of a personality like how orks do it
I like that they got a refresh but damn night runners being neither updated or retired is crazy..
I must admit that with the story of liberator reforged you achieved the peak of mount humour. ❤
they are all from diffrent clan's my guess, some look really clan eshin, and the ones with boils are pretty clan Pestilens
Never collected skaven but my ex did and I have such a soft spot for them. Love that these new kits is all the same good stuff but just better. The old kit though was a great kitbashing resource for weapons for Mordheim bands and I kitted out dregs, cultist and even a couple sisters of Sigmar with their leftover bits, would dearly hope that carries over too.
There's a rat in ma kitchen, what am I gonna go?
"Lads and lases" oh kirioth... there are no lasses in that group i can tell you that for certain (shudders at the horrible fate of female skaven)
Is it just me or do skaven look more like molerats than actual rats?
Like, rats are just cute. Even while in sewers, they're just fluffy and adorable. Skaven look nothing like real rats.
Rats can have varying amount of hair, double rex have none, rex can be patchy but is curly.
The only downside I can see is that you’ll have duplicates due to the amount of models you’re gonna need.
Hopefully they’re easy to kitbash
Bearing in mind how scruffy & dirty Skaven/Rats can get I would suggest MANGE 😊
Now GW should redo the Custodes!
AoS stuff is usually weighed down by bauble and nicknacks. Like 40k. These skaven are actually not bad. They arent completely covered in nonsense.
rAts
we're rAts
we're the rAts
On first glance I think these ratboys are better than the previous bunch
YES YES YES YES
Rats
Rats
We are the rats
With some skaven having more or less fur, they might have needed to shave due to getting mange. They dont exactly have great personal hygene...
Well at least some Mordheim players will be happy.
To your comment about shows where the main character disappeared, but the show keeps going on. Blake's 7 comes to mind.
They added two seasons without Blake anywhere until the last show when everyone dies(I'd I remember correctly).
I've loved Skaven since I saw them in White Dwarf Magazine's 127(or so)catalog section.
I can't wait to see the new Stormvermen.
Yes, yes
We forget that Vikings slowly eased in Soap Opera elements / dynamics that turned what 'Was' a heros rise and fall story into Lovers quarrels, sibling angst and family squabbles, which without Ragnar felt aimless.we first saw Kattegat as just a collection of Huts and watched it grow with each cinquest, then all of the sudden the settlements starts exponentially growing and we are never shown that process or our characters involvement with it, save for random villagers we are introduced to just so they can die to show how bad a enemy is. Lmao.
How do they rank up? For reasons…
I forgot about Vikings. I was 3 or so seasons in and got too busy to watch. It's so much to catch up on. Anyway, I don't know if I want to collect a rat army, but I want to paint/collect a few to have
Good rats yes yes
But will we get clan eshin?I need them for mordheim
Yay 😃, chaos potatos!
It might be how they're painted but to me Skaven are incredibly intelligent little schemers always trying to do over their buddy to get a step up in their horrific little society. These new ones look too feral. It might honestly be the teeth that does it, less rat like and more barracuda which doesn't scream Skaven to me. Poses and armour are great though.
Agree with Vikings assessment. Still one of my favourite all time shows but by the end they just ran out of steam. I love the new update for the Skaven, can't help but love that in the comparison the poor rats size and head just happened to be perfectly in line with the Stormcasts hammer backswing.
I like the models but I really wish they hadn't refreshed this unit so soon in its life cycle, but they removed my clan eshin 1:44 and some of my clan pestilence models that will not be getting remodeled anytime soon, or if they do it won't be all of them. I'm bitter. I know they've got to sell what sells but, maybe if they made newer models those would sell
Skaven look like good models. Shame they're not supported for ToW.
just hope they are not mono pose sculpts
Viking late seasons would be like if the Simpsons had 2 seasons just following Lenny and Carl. Like, for a few episodes loving it, but after half a season where's Homer gone?
Im so hoping for new clans eshin models
This might sound dumb but the kits might be TOO good? Like, look how much detail there is on a mini you're going to need to paint dozens of...
Mmmmm Skaven-Skaven… yes-yes…
You think any Sigmarines ever show up in front of Sigmar with like marks on their wrists or bruises around their necks?
They look exactly the same but now they will cost 60$ for 10
On Sigmarxism they would ask why the Skaven with the Banner has something that looks suspiciously like a Flag of Nazi Germany 😅
With how much money GW makes. These reworks should be on going for every model for every army. There older models haven't aged well.
Should we care that clan Rats got the update and not stormvermin?
i recon you could mix the old and new especially if you took extra heads from the new ones and put them on the old ones
someone leaked another one on twitter he got it accidently
So, really, no reason you can't use the old clan rats. Even though they have been discontinued.
But no Slave Rats, how sad, would've been super based if GDubbs at least made the effort to make Slave Rats return.
Ragnar made that show. Floki needed to be with Ragnar to be interesting. Bjorn was never super interesting, but less so when we saw how little control he had over events and other characters. Ivar was interesting, but would have been a better character if he'd been a malicious genius that actually was on his own family's side instead of being a constant thorn and threat.
So basically, the older they get
The older they seem?
Vikings should have stopped after Ragnar was out of the show XD
So not taking a look at GW's own Goal , with the Skaven model they set someone by mistake?
If it was not for my friend that works GW saying that GW was " not that smart", I would say the "leak" was planed. :D
Truth about vikings .
I’ll admit I’m super excited to see the new Clanrats, but now I want to see the new stormvemin
Rat lads!
better buy and play them while you can, before GW guts them in 3 years time
I'm counting 10 unique models on the carousel, which worries me with Modern GW. Please, please, PLEASE GW don't give us a box of 10 clanrats for the same damn price you use to sell us 20 clanrats at...
Cmon dude off course it's going to be 10 for the price of 20 😅
I mean it is a pipe dream but if they pull an foot knights and have them be tweenty i would love it
There's a lot of kits that have the same set of sprues twice - basically everything sold as 20 models, which includes new Zombies and Ossiarch Infantry from AoS (and the current Stormvermin)
Pretty sure the box will still end up being 20 models, just sprues doubled. And hopefully enough customisation that it doesn't show, but I'd be vaguely optimistic given last editions Hobgrots
@@PavelThorsonos eh still better than nothing
Yeah vikings should have ended with ragnars death.
Hashtags are so 2010 😅
I just dont know that skaven are going to benefit from being mono-pose, especially clanrats :/
Gonna be fair the old clanrats where really monopose, they where made up of two pieces, body then an arm, head and left arm holding shield was sculpted on the body, if anything this is the same just prettier
@@oscarandreas1431 but I could control not only what spear he has but how he’s holding it, how it’s positioned, which shield he has, it could change the entire vibe of the model. The thing is these will just give you copies of the EXACT same models with zero variation
Vikings fell flat, as did walking dead... Almost like they don't know when to quit :')
The Skaven basically look the same, an entirely pointless WASTE of time. They have a lot more detail now which means they're gonna take TWICE as long to paint now. I don't know why they're re-doing the clanrats and stormvermin (I assume)... they were recent (2009) good, modern and fitted with AoS.
They should have re-done the plague monks and gutter runners (I assume they are coming) and put THEM in the Starter Box. Thus, giving them space to re-do other models that DO need an update. Very inexplicable choice.
Sad moo sounds 😢 😞 😔 😕 😪
Hold up, didn't GW just take away the entire Skaven army, along with the beasts of chaos and most of the Stormcast eternal line of minis? Now as I understood it the beasts and Skaven would still get updated rules for the non competitive players but competitive gaming with those armies/units were not going to be a thing after a set date I believe early summer of this year ..so why the new kit again?
Skaven were (long rumored and finally) announced as AoS 4th edition's poster children (alongside obligatory Stormcasts), complete with fancy CGI trailer and all, well before that range culling announcement. It was clear that almost all of those units would get refreshes throughout this edition and that GW was merely cleaning out stock of all the old kits at once, so for these two armies some units may be unavailable for many months, but inevitably return. The others in that notification are the ones leaving official AoS tournaments soon: Bonesplitterz and Beasts of Chaos to come home to The Old World as Savage Orcs and Beastmen, whereas niche units of old Warcry warbands are riding off into the Chaos sunset for good.
@@twincast2005 I appreciate the clarification, it seemed odd to me that instead of simply updating an army's kit they'd trash them and then redo it. That would be like throwing chaos space Marines out of 40k only to reinstall them after updating, just seemed an unnecessary step.
@@Darius1520 I assume it's due to their constant stock issues across all of their games in recent years; free up production capacity and shelf space by dropping kits early that would become obsolete soon(ish) anyway.
Why does AOS get cooler and better sculpted models than 40k?
Now we know why a certain 3d creator has been taken down GW have used his sculpts lol
Which one if I may ask?
@@Adler87 EmanG

Ah, that sucks.
Huh. It's almost like crying about the old models getting cut out led to better models. Should have been obvious.
As a proud rat owner I'm not impressed with these new sculpts. Show me skryre acolytes, new rat ogres, new gutter and night runners.... NEW PLAGUE MONKS! nope, there you got a "new" battleline, the most boring, least elite and interesting models in the range... and these new sculpts have VERY limited customizability options. With high numbers of units the repeating patterns will look bad.
I disagree on the repeating patterns, past a certain number of models repeat patterns blend together. You could easily break it up by painting different metals or different colors on the cloaks of some. Etc. Guardsmen, ork boys, termagants all tend to blend into a mob anyway on the table. Plus i bet you can swap out arms and stuff. A good arm swap can make 2 bodies require a decent amt of looking to see their identical
