- John Peel introduces American indie rock band Low at Maida Vale, broadcast on 8th November 2000 from BBC Radio One. The tracks Low performed were:
1. Sunflower
2. Dinosaur Act
3. I Remember
4. Don't Carry It All
5. John Prine
BBC Emergency Tape appears after the track above, where ATB's 9PM (Till I Come) gets played for a couple of minutes before normal transmission appears, where Peel apologises for the mishap.
6. In Metal
7. Closer
8. Venus
9. Over The Ocean - Hudba
This was the first time I heard Low and it blew my mind - the utterly gorgeous but haunting harmonies and immersive songs made me a fan overnight. I am devastated that Mimi Parker is no longer with us - her voice was utterly mesmerising and irreplaceable.
YES YES YES
I first heard them around that time, and felt the same. I heard about Mimi today, terrible sad news
Same here. I'd been out for the evening in my hometown of Portsmouth UK. I was listening on headphones to my portable radio. The train I got on in the harbour station was delayed, and just sat there for ages whilst this stunning live set was broadcast - I was transfixed, and became an immediate fan.
RIP Mimi. ❤
Rest in peace Mimi Parker. You will be missed forever but your legacy truly does live on through Your beautiful voice
John Peel was responsible for introducing me, to so much wonderful music through his radio show. But especially through his live sessions. I spent many many nights listening to anything he would play. There was always such , breadth and variety in his selections. His legacy is music itself, he enabled so many bands to reach audiences , they'd never have been exposed to. LOW are one of thee finest groups that I first heard on John Peel's radio show. Thank you John you are remembered foundly, always.
00:25 Sunflower
05:24 Dinosaur Act
09:53 I Remember
14:31 Don't Carry It All
19:20 John Prine
(Emergency Tape starts 25:05, ends 27:10)

45:52 Immune (for like 2 seconds)

Love that Alan was playing the Fall's, My New House for a second or two as well. Weird how different his speaking voice was back then. He sounded like a 14 year old boy compared to now.
saw Low a couple of times around this time....they were incredible. Still are.
And in the heavens write your glorious name.
They invited those of us who knew....Thank you Low, Really.
Had this recorded on cassette for many, many years. Miss those days...
These people are beautiful
The transition into quiet from john Prine was wonderful but then the most hilarious juxtaposition of emergency tape plays. And because they were too quiet!? Fucking awesome.
So sad to hear the passing of Mimi Parker, I listened to Low in the late 90s and loved them still to this day.
God they were amazing. Rest easy, Mimi.
beautiful!
2000-2003 was my Peace Corps / traveling time. Out of the loop for live shows. Of course Low had to put out their best album-- this is a great set list! Fortunately, my next show was Spaceland in 2004 -- a fantastic leap into their "rocking" pivot. But of course, they always had the ability to rock as hard as any band. Thanks for the memories, Mimi.
Great band what more can be said.
Love ❤️
Oh Mimi such a loss, It's like I knew you, like we had been great friends..............
RIP. Mimi.
I found out recently that Mimi passed away. I am so saddened that her angelic voice is still and I pray that her family finds some peace. RIP
Rip John Peel 🕯
Love this version of Closer
rip
Rest in peace Mimi. Rest easy Sister 😢💔❤️🕯💐
Wow, great version of "Venus."
Listening I felt like someone had reached a hand into my chest.
The version of closer sounds way slower than the record it's absolute bliss.
It's a ride into some heavenly abyss bliss.
in-fucking-credible indeed
rest in peace, Mr. Peel
He brought so, so much music to our lives and now he is gone. So sad. He was a pioneer of his time. Brought so much to us.
:)
Never saw such a beautiful picture of the band in the early years. Could anybody tell me where it comes from ? Or who shot it ? Would really love to find a copy. Thank you !
What happened at 24:00 25:00 ???
They played so quietly the emergency system kicked in as it thought there was dead air.
