    Have you tried Finish Line Dry Teflon lubricant? This works well for me, and lots of people in the US use it. Just clean the cam well as you did, then a few small drops on the springs or other sticky bits. My first time even hearing of GT85! Thanks for the great videos.

      Not on climbing kit but on my bike! Thin lube does work really well on cams :)

    Good video as always. I like the view from the garden.
    Around 7:50 you mention you have your personal cams, camalots, and you have your work cams, DMM Dragons. Why the distinction?

      Glad you liked it!
      All my stuff is either work or personal, so I can better keep track of it's use and history. Most of the kit is actually the same brands etc but personally I do prefer Camalots, the feel is slightly nicer and I prefer thumb loops. Dragons are still great pieces of kit though and I'd rather buy local so I compromise by having them on my work kit!

    do you keep a log of your kit for work? and is there any other cause for you to retire nuts other than wire damage?

    • @JBMountainSkills
      @JBMountainSkills  Před 3 lety

      Yes I do. The manufacturer will have a life span, so we should stick to that, but also yeah, any damaged wires, sack 'em off :)

    Hey Jez!
    Quick question: in case of using electrical tape on your quickdraws, would you place it on the rope side or on the wall side? and where about? (closer to the dogbone, in the middle of the spine,...).
    Thanks for your amazing content, Cheers!

    • @jaci0077

      Water works wonders! You just want the chunks of dirt and sand out of the fibers to lessen wear. But some mild soap might help dissolve the dirt grime without damaging the fabric.
      If you get some of that rope-soap from Tendon, or whoever, you might even end up with gear that looks brand new. Worked wonders for my dirty-dirty ropes :D

    • @JBMountainSkills
      @JBMountainSkills  Před 3 lety

      As below really, wash 'em in water, or if you're feeling flash then splash out on some rope cleaner stuff :)

    hey can i buy your damaged nuts and/or cams i work with steel cabel daily so i can repair them for personal use. cams/nuts are prety expensive in my cuntry because there isnt much trad climbing. I wash my ropes and slings all together in one wash and put them in seperate mesh bags so they dont get tangeld together, as for marking i used two component enamel paint and it hasent faded or been damaged in the last three years (including washing and scrubing), but i only used that because i had it laying around i dont think you can buy wery small quantaties so i dont think its worth buying just to mark equipment. sorry for bad spelling and nice video

    Thanks for the great video! I have a biner that has a gate that won't close without help. Any ways of fix for that? Why do you keep DMMs for work and BD for personal/private use?

    • @eoinstapleton9252
      @eoinstapleton9252 Před 3 lety

      Retire a carabiner that won’t close if simply cleaning it out won’t let it close by itself!

    • @eoinstapleton9252
      @eoinstapleton9252 Před 3 lety +1

      Always careful with oil, don’t want that getting on ropes/slings.
      If it’s not closing because gunk is stopping it, clean it out and climb on.
      If it’s not closing because it’s old and battered, bin it!

    • @jaci0077

      @@Andyrevv Boiling water works wonders if it's grit and soil that's causing it. If it's really grimy you might even want to some dish-soap to dissolve the dirt :D Work 'em out real good by opening and closing it a bunch and you should notice an instant improvement. :)
      I've tried some WD40 myself, but since dust, grit and the likes sticks to you might just want to lay of it. But hey, try it ou! Won't hurt.

    • @JBMountainSkills
      @JBMountainSkills  Před 3 lety +1

      I'd be really liberal with the GT85, and snap the gate back and forward loads. Try boiling it if not, and if you still can't free it I'd retire it.
      Re. the cams... I like both sets of cams, but I slightly prefer the BD so use them for play, partly they feel a bit nicer in terms of the action, and partly I prefer handling thumb loops. DMM Dragons are still flipping nice though!
