About the Grover Cleveland story: In the 1800's, cancer was considered a punishment for sinful people. Hiding cancer was standard, and we don't have accurate morbidity/mortality info because death certificates would say "natural causes" to protect the family's reputation. It's not just the White House that's weird about health in America.

McConnell is also wanting outgoing members to choose their successor instead of voting.
We all recognize there’s flaws in our government but nobody is bothered to fix them.
It has to come from the grassroots groups willing to push the politicians and get rid of paid lobbyists
Bottom line, isn't it? We come to complain but we don't actually DO ANYTHING to change or fix it.
I'm so hoping and praying that our young generation that is coming up will help change things. My daughter is studying political science and policy law in college because she's exceptionally passionate about the policies and has managed to debate these issues since high school. I Sincerely hope that they will make the changes necessary for them and their future families.

Thank you so much for educating American people on how the American government is operating. This was never taught in American government or history in school - elementary, middle, high-school or even college. Yet it is a required course to graduate.

Trevor, you made this so clear and understandable. So, it confirms what I said they should do to get rid of the lie of not having the ability to debate... Maximum: 100 x 10 mins., Minimum: 50 x 10 mins which will leave at the most 2 8 hour days to debate a bill. Why? In a school board meeting in ATL, citizens get 3 mins & elected state officials get 5 mins. So, feds get 10 mins (2x that of state) to speak during the public comments. Move on & vote.

Ridiculous! New Filibuster ammendment: No outside drinks or refreshments. No one can provide the person filibustering with anything to ingest. No bathroom breaks, and a filibuster passport is required which tracks the limited number of filibustering events allowed per Senator.

At the minimum we should force Mitch McConnell to read the phonebook for 48h with no breaks, if he wants to filibuster a bill. Make him suffer, sleep deprivation, sore throat, dehydration, etc.. Or even better force him to actually discus the bill, instead of wasting everyone else's time in a blatant attempt to undermine democracy.
