Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch take a weekend road trip in the music video for their new song "The Weekend," the opening track on the new Dave Rawlings Machine album "Nashville Obsolete," available now.

The video was shot on a breakneck road trip from Nashville to California. "It was the craziest idea" says Rawlings,"to document a weekend trip from Music City to the beach and back". The opening scene shows Rawlngs and Welch packing up the '65 Chevy Impala they first toured in. West- coast bound, outfitted in Nudie Suits and armed with guitars and a beach blanket, the story unfolds over the course of 'The Weekend'. The trip is real, the breakdown is real, the mechanic is real, unplanned, but evidence that Dave Rawlings Machine will go wherever the road leads them.

I drive a truck for a living and although it's dang near impossible to go from Nashville to the CA coast and back in a weekend, I'd love to spend a week listening to these two going from Nashville to the CA coast and back singing the whole way.
I fall asleep listening to this song every night for the last few months. It's a beautiful song and the perfect cure for traffic tension after an 11 hour shift.

In 1975 I got a lift in a Chevy Impala by a couple of guys . After about 6 hours of driving ,smoking and drinking a lot the car boiled over crossing the Rockies . It might still be there as we abandoned it . Nostalgia backed by a lovely song. Love these guys.
This entire album is my sitting by the fire sipping bourbon album.
I am so enamored with Dave Rawlings guitar playing I can honestly say I've heard nothing to compare, and I've heard more than a couple of superstars over the years.
Then you have the beauteous Gillian, whose radiance just cannot be contained.
They honestly blow me away, and if I believed in a Lord I'd be praising him high and low for the gift of this duo.
i spent happy years in their school. got to see them many times and share their songs to thousands. what a beatiful thing life and music is. leaves me in no doubt our creator is good :-)

As someone who has made the drive from Memphis to Tulsa many times I have to say that omitting Arkansas completely made this trip look a lot more fun than it probably really was.
LOL. Best to stop somewhere around Conway to break that state into two pieces.
Heading east through Arkansas seems to be better than heading west, not sure why.

I've bought enough of their music to come to the final conclusion that these two WERE SIMPLY MEANT TO BE TOGETHER, END OF STORY! Rawlings & Welch my-oh-my, singer-songwriter partnerships don't get much purer and more life-affirming than theirs nowadays. Lovin' the video as well, Gillian looking so cute napping in the backseat (leave those silver streaks in, sista!:::wink:::wink:::). Gotta remind myself to get the album this single's from when the time comes. I've been laggin' a bit in collecting their work these past several years and am certainly NOT pleased about it, either...
