  • Hiking 400+ Miles Across Iceland 1 - Survival Mode
    In July of 2021, my good friend Cheesebeard and I set off on our traverse of Iceland, from the North-West corner of Iceland hiking on foot all the way down to the South coast. This is video one in my hiking vlog from the trip. I hope you enjoy the journey.

    This video totally reminds me of watching videos that I've watched when watching videos. Seriously though, good stuff. What a beautiful and unique place.

    It’s such an otherworldly place so see. I’m thrilled for you both and for myself since I get to follow along (albeit in a much more comfortable environment).

    Awesome, takes me back to when I hiked the Laugavegur about 6 years ago. Very different trail, extremely overpopulated, but some of the most epic, most alien scenery I’ve ever witnessed. Also some of the worst weather I’ve hiked in, you’re right, it’s a whole new kind of wet, with horizontal rain and gale force winds for added fun, punctuated by some of the most wonderful light shows you could ever see. I spent one of the worst nights in a tent ever there, not sure how my Tarptent survived, and woke up with every single thing I owned covered in black ash. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything!

    Yo, Paul! Love the quality on this video. Very cinematic. Iceland has always been on my list. One day, perhaps. Hope you get that hand taken care of. Looking forward to the rest of this series. Good luck out there! BOOM.

      @@pieonthetrail yes I liked it! Made the same trip around Hornstrandir some years ago - muuuch slower but partially experienced the same miserable weather conditions (they are quite normal up there!) but also bright sun at the Horn :-)

    Been to Hornstrandir twice. Both times got lucky with the weather at the Horn. I've crossed all of the places you crossed in this video :).
    There's no way you could have crossed the "high tide" area at high tide at #13.40, that would have been suicide.
    The "town" with the hot springs isn't really a town

      @@pieonthetrail The horn is a bit overrated, IMHO. Right across the horn (west), is another, more dramatic, but less-known "horn", called Haelavikurbjarg. It's a more difficult hike, but more solitude. You won't meet anyone there (at the horn in your video, you most likely would)

    I wonder how you arranged the food deposits? I contacted a lot of people asking for this service but it was either not possible (anymore), or crazy expensive, or the huts said they were not able or willing to give up storage space. In the end, it was a dealbreaker for my planned trip North-South.

    • @pieonthetrail
      @pieonthetrail  Před 11 měsíci

      We didn't have a lot of problems, we mainly bought food at gas stations along the way and sent I think two food packages to huts
