It’s 2023 but I only re-started clarinet after 50 years. I really enjoy your training sessions

Been playing on and off for around 50 years and for the last few years able to dedicate real time and put air through every day. I understand a lot of the words that you use. Some terms I am not able to appreciate. I think that is because of my own lack of ear. I have just moved to a thick cut 3.5 reed. I have two Bflats. a1966 wooden boosey and hawkes wooden edgeware and , dare I say it, a plastic chinese that I bought to travel around with. They do have different sounds but both like the stronger thicker reed. Consistency in reproduction of sound, with no bad notes, in the upper registers is what I am now striving for. I would like to say I discern a difference in the mouth pieces, but that is not really true. There is a definate richer fuller tone in the wooden clarinet. I am enjoying very much the information that you are providing and the bouncing off each other with complimentary information. I think maybe I would like to try a reverse ligature or three on each of the instruments to see what difference that may make but to be frank I am not sure I have the skills to notice the difference just yet. Anyway, thought I would feed back that what you are presenting is very useful to me. John Bolton. Australia.

Hi Michelle, I sometimes have an issue with my lower teeth biting into my lower lip. Is the a symptom of poor embouchure? Common? How can I avoid or fix this?

I also started the clarinet because my daughter started plating clarinet with a private teacher and has an amazing talent she is so much better than i am her improv is exceptional at times if you want I will put on my channel her latest video where she did a charity concert of such sweet thunder on clarinet and careless whisper on saxophone after that.

Tony's Music sorry to tell you no one really cares. Like good for you and your daughter but no one cares. Obviously she might be better because she is learning faster but you should put her in a normal band where she learns better stuff other than just solos. Im telling you this because i am in marching band and ive learned about 4 times the amount of stuff ive lesrned in 2 years in 5 months

Thanks for your suggestion however unfortunately my daughter was asked by her teacher if she would want to join an orchestra but she didn't seem interested at that time however she might change her mind once she gets more into the alto saxophone as well but aside from that I myself will hopefully be having my first private lesson on the clarinet next weekend so hopefully the teache may help me improve and soften my sound a bit in order for it to sound better fingers cossed!

Yeah you will get better just try to move your tongue faster so theres not as many pauses and practice your scales. If you want me to i can send you a warmup i use that has helped me alot

you need to check the connection between the two joints. If there is a small gap where the two keys of the joint over lay, the holes will not close well and the twoo pointer Bb won't respond.
