Hue Jackson, 1-31 over 2 seasons, almost went 0-32.
Stealthbomb Smith he beat the previous record held by Rich Kotite who went 4-28 with the NY Jets in 1995-96.

How is Rod Marinelli not on this list? He was the head coach during the lions 0-16 season. And his previous two years were before going 0-16 were not good either. 3-13 then 7-9. The fact that they went 0-16 should have him at #1 on this list

Bobby Petrino with the Atlanta Falcons 2007. He won two games and quit ofter the week 13 game to go the University of Arkansas. We letters in the players lockers to let them know.

Marty Mornhinweg. 5-27 in two years in Detroit. Lost his first 12 games and his last 8. What failed to get mentioned was winning the coin toss in overtime and taking the wind; needless to say, Chicago went down and kicked a game winning field goal...into the wind; Detroit never got the ball. That is just as big a reason he is on this list.

Adam Gase turned two teams on the upswing into tanking franchises, pissed off talented players, forced players into a dysfunctional scheme, and misused players and didn’t play them to their strengths. But Hue Jackson is still the worst head coach, 1-31 enough said.

I gotta say Rod Rust was one of them. Coached the Patriots for one season in 1990. 1-15. But hey, there were plenty of injuries on the Pats that season.
Rich Kotite hands down is number 1. When asked by a reporter what he had to do to turn the Jets' misfortunes around, Kotite said "I don't know." Brilliant!

Agree. College coaches with huge alumni money can recruit talent and a top coaching staff. I am more impressed with college coaches that have small budgets and very good teams. University South Florida in 2007 ranked # 2 nationally.
Not all of them. Jim Harbaugh is a great college coach. And he was a very decent coach for the 49ers even though they lost to Baltimore in the Super Bowl. Pete Carroll was one of three coaches to win the collegiate championship football game and the Super Bowl with Jimmy Johnson and Narry Switzerland being the others.

Two Chicago Bears coaches come to mind- Dave Wannstedt 85-89. Not too bad a record but hes the guy that traded a 1st round pick for bust QB Rick Mirer. Then his successor Dick Jauron who had a total record of 60-83 as a head coach. Bad years for the Bears.

Every coach the Saints had before Jim Mora....and Mike Ditka. He wrecked that team. He's in the Hall of Fame as a player, but he'll never make it in as a head coach. His Saints record fatally tarnished his legacy. But don't feel bad. Hank Stram is part of the pre-Mora bunch.

as an Oilers fan, you have competition here from Dallas Eakins, the worst NHL coach in history/NHL version of Hue Jackson, he coached us to a combined 36-63-14 in 2 seasons before being fired midway through the 2nd season, ruining Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz, playing the swarm, getting booed off the ice after losing 7-1 AT HOME vs the Blackhawks and was only hired because of the boys club

It was John McKay that built the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a contender that came one game away from playing the Steelers in Super Bowl XIV in 1979.
