Hi Mike Mulligan,I also keep my white cane unfolded that I store in the coat closet by the front door.My came is old but still useful and does its job of letting me know if there are signs or other objects in my way while I am walking around the mall with it.I am visually impaired with limited vision with ongoing eye problems and going back and forth to see my eye doctors for testing and treatments until my eye problems are healed.Soon I will have to get another white cane hook roller ball tip for my white cane from the cnib,I go through a lot of cane tips because they wear out too quick and I use my white cane daily

Thanks for the tip. I had a cane in which the cord broke one day when I unfolded it. Now I keep my current cane unfolded when I am not using it.

My tip to making your cane last longer is don't let some careless moron step on it like I did a couple months ago.

Roughly how much longer will this method prolong the folding white cane's life? Assuming it doesn't get damaged by external factors like getting hit. Also, what is the average lifespan of a folding white cane if usage is low?

Mike do you think that a velcro wrap will keep my white cane folded up when not in use?The cord that used to keep my cane folded up broke a long time ago,my cane is in good condition
