Ben De Angelis “Follygon” is a professional digital sculptor with a background in sculpting appealing characters for toys and life size figures for production in a variety of styles. Ben has worked on such IP as Pokemon, Barbie, Batman, Shrek, Ghostbusters, Hotel Transylvania, Madagascar, Flintstones, Clash of Clans and many more. I definitely vibe with the “simple doesn’t mean easy” thing, I’ve been trying to step outside my skill set and doing more simple or stylized characters and man is it tough
You can do it! I believe!
Yeah, realistic is what you must learn first before you try stylized.
@@KinnikuGameDojo Nope, not even slightly true :)
@@KinnikuGameDojo theres no rules in staring in drawing, i started with stylized and i easily picked up realism because of it.
Yes! Stylized/simplistic things can look extremely weird even if only something subtle is off--

As always, this amazes me. You're planning and execution with these is excellent
Yes, planning. . . hah hah. All the planning that I do.
Y'know, the fact you called me, and many others, out for skipping through but didn't give us any flack for skipping, instead being like "Hey- no hard feelings, but if you're interested, you watch the timelapse and process as well"
This kind of niceness is what made me actually sit through and watch the video
You don't see that a lot

I'd love to see you use the mod shapes to make these inside blender. Zbrush seems to be better for sculpting but I'm a one software person 😭
Cool idea! I haven't used mod shapes in Blender.
@@Follygon The remeshing features in it aren't as easy as zbrush seems so if anyone could do a tutorial on it, it'd be you. Cuz it's definitely not me 😭
Always manage to learn something new in every video! These are a great help and have been a lifesaver when learning zbrush at uni. Cheers Follygon!
Ayy happy to help!
Ahhh! I love this!! I wanna do things like this so bad!
An extremely interesting video, thank you for making it!
Absolutely awesome!
Woah.... This is truly a work of art. Kudos to you, I could never
It's so cool! 😍
I agree with u.The simplest thing can sometimes take much longer time to do than the complex on
Not me secretly hoping your next work was going to be one of rinotunas pieces. Love your videos! keep it up
This is one of my faves. So great!
Yay, thank you!
its always great to watch !!
Thanks Atomic!
This is incredible!! Can't believe I missed it
First! Love your videos as I will love this one!
Thank you!
Love your videos Follygon!
Thanks Greg!
amazing!, is cool!!!
I really needed help with the basic shapes and how to sculpt them, rlly helpful ty!!! x
You got this!
@@Follygon I hope so! It’s like the 3rd time I’m ever sculpting a head and it’s for my University FMP🫠
Just becoming so immersed in the process from start to finish is real - I watched with so much amazement! I tried getting into 3D art but my computer couldn't handle it and I only managed to make a rice onigiri :') May I ask what GPU you use? Hopefully a new GPU will help me get back into learning 3D again!
Hey, just a heads up, if you plan on using ZBrush, performance is CPU based! You could run it with an integrated graphics card. Though if you want to render, GPU is much better for that.
@@J0nnyTheJ3w ohh right! I’m still relatively new to parts and PC builds! I ask about GPU because my cpu is great as is but my gpu is rather dated! 😅 thank you so much for the great info!!
Broooo soo good :3
I like his voice and his art is wonderful 🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰
I got recommended this video by random
It looks really amazing and your pfp reminds me of the Toca Boca logo
You are my sculpting hero! Keep them coming! I really enjoy all your vids. Early 2 recent! Thanks for all the free content. I am planning on getting your gumroad brush pack! ( Waiting to get paid!) ☺️ I just started putting my CV out there this week . Fingers crossed. I hope to be as versed as you one day.
You’re too kind!
I got the brushes a few weeks ago, LOVE them!
@@celineangelica_ Do you have an artstation page?
This OC is giving "protagonist in a victorian Jack the Ripper esc murder mystery where she must work with a rag tag team of misfits to figure out the plot before it is too late"
Could we get the UI customization colors please? Amazing work, absolutely stunning!!
Great job as usual, and great choice of reference. How's the mustache going?
Can you try to do a character from starcars /princecanary/ winter birb please???
Their art is awesome and their characters are so interesting ❤️ Anyways I love your videos, you’re inspiring to also keep going ^^
OMG YES HIS ART IS SO PRETTY✨
pro as always
Thank you MrCricket 🫡
@@Follygon no problemo
I need a basics class. If I could afford it id get the 2k class lol.
I have never picked up a pen in my current life to draw something. But I love 3d printing. Your videos make me want to learn more about zbrush I have the program but not the knowledgez
The Appeal Academy is $599, not 2k :) And is much more than just a class! There's a ton there and it's gets larger every month. If you have any questions let me know. I appreciate the kind words!
Hahahahah bro he caught me 😂
Hi Follygon, thank you for posting this flythrough! Your sculpts always very appealing! I have a long question if you don't mind answering!
Do you usually keep perspective off when you're sculpting to your reference image? I've heard to sculpt with perspective ON. I've also heard to sculpt with it OFF, but "check" it periodically (which sounds like a vague tip to me.)
If you DO keep perspective off, how do you deal with the perspective skew that happens with rendering in other packages such as Maya or Blender? From my own understanding, it makes sense to keep perspective on in Zbrush with a focal length of 85 (as that is a "flattering" length for the human face). Then, when it's brought into something like Maya, the difference isn't so jarring. At least in theory. I have yet to put much in practice...
I was curious what your thoughts are on this! Sorry if this has been addressed in another video!
I just think that the final cameras in, say, a movie or a short, will always have perspective. So ultimately it won't be showing your character as you made it in Zbrush if it was done without perspective enabled. I don't know if that makes sense....
I mention this in most of my videos, but I switch it on and off while sculpting. Focal length depends on the shot. Headshots are typically around 120mm but I like 100mm for almost everything.
I recommend turning of perspective when working on orthographic views and turning it on when not. Ultimately your work should look good in both. It's not even something I think about while I am working anymore. I just make it look good!
U caught me there 😋
I just wanna say that I watched the entire video.
Мне нравится, что в какой-то момент модель стала похожа на ту, что делали из-за ограничений мощностей для ПС1
Daruk from BOTW would be fun
Got called out at the end, thats earned a subscription. Love your stuff
skipped exactly to the party he called out the skippers
Same 😂😂
Finally he returned!!
The frilly thing I think is called a cravat!
13:57 does anyone remember where this song is from
What software is this?
Can you do Kokomo or Radien shogun from Genshin impact?
Kokomi*
I didn’t skip haha.. the art is stunning btw
Any plans on having a discount for The appeal academy? I'm super interested but man.. this is basically a month's rent. I can't afford that at all right now :'(
Not me watching the entire video and being called a skipper 💀
What program do you use for modeling? excuse my ignorance
ZBrush
@@krummja4823 ty
Just wanted to let you know, I did NOT skip to the end
I think that’s a fat shear ribbon that’s tied around the base of the hat and falling down the sides like a vail. I can’t tell exactly since it’s transparent and highlighted to Betelgeuse and back.
Not the beetlejuice
what app do you use for this?
I always feel like a skipper, even tho i am not :( Its like you are talking to me, but i didnt skip! Always wanna sculpt after one of your videoes, so off I go.
what software is that
ZBrush
16:45 how did you know?
Bro really called me out for skipping
Nooo :( , I just tried to subscribe to your Patreon. :(
With respect, you don't have to fill every second with narration.
i tried 3d modeling, and its way easier than i thought
