Go subscribe to imawonder • 2D PAINTING TO 3D DIGI... and check out part one of our collab!
I'm bossy. I'm the first girl to scream on a track. I switched up the beat of the drum. That's right I brought all the boys to the yard... oh sorry just getting in the zone to sculpt this sukeban boss girl 👀 What's up guys! I am follygon and in this video I'm collaborating with the wonderful imawonder! She has graciously created a brand new artwork for me to translate to 3D. I know many of you are coming from imawonder's video to check out the second part of this collab, but if you haven't checked out her part yet, I encourage you to watch that first so you can see the character develop in 2D before I do my part in 3D. Click the link above and go give her some love in the comments! Hope you all enjoy this two part video and I hope to see you again in the next video. ✌️ Also, sorry I say gouache weird.

APOLOGIES FOR DONE GOOFING ON THE TIMING OF MY POST LOL
Ben this collab was so fun and I loved watching my girl come to life! You did such a great job of translating her into 3D! Also, for the superhero question I personally always want to choose teleportation but I didn’t even think about the possibility of error haha! Now I guess I need to finally watch Mob Psycho!
Absolutely! I had a ton of fun working on your character :D
Every anime you mentioned in your video, I was just like "yes, yes, yes, I should also rewatch all of these." Avatar is next on my list! YIP YIP

I love the talk about passion. Just like Bob Ross said “Talent is a pursued interest. Anything that you're willing to practice, you can do.”
Also "hard works beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" I love that quote cause so many ppl rely on talent when they could get a million times better feeding and growing it with knowledge
Both go hand in hand. ^^^. Hard work and talent, talent and hard work. Vise versa. Ying and yang. Both ways. Dont forget. 💜.
no the cat ‘ring’ is definitely for punching (specifically for taking someone’s eyes out)
Yeah, they're basically brass knuckles, but shaped like cat ears. Lol
yeah they are typically kept as a women's self-defense item because they look inconspicuous on a keychain or purse.
They're made by Meow Defense Shop. They also sell some pretty awesome knives.

Answer to why they had the sailor uniform style school uniforms.
Their modern schools were heavily influenced by western ones and so were the uniforms, one uniform that they saw most of was foreign sailors. They basically meshed that with various other uniforms including actual school uniforms of the time and voila the serafuku.
Alexander Davidov so Americans love Japanese unforms that are really modified American concepts.
@@ThuyBui-ph9uh kinda narcissistic in a way lol
Thuy Bui Technically every cultural concept has taken inspiration from other cultures. It’s just how it works. So in a way, every culture enjoys aspects of other culture’s creations, even if it’s just a variation of their original creation.
@@AkumaDayo Not really lol
+AkumaDayo How? Most people that like serafuku don’t know what they’re based off of. They’re just cute outfits to a lot of people.

I’m all about the broad shoulder life 💪

not gonna lie, thought i was gonna skip to the end to see the final product faster
but i actually got super interested in the process and watched the whole video + subbed
Thanks Miami!
Follygon of course
Me: a simple 2d scribbler
Follygon: a god-level 3d master sculptor
lol not quite that good but thanks!
The journey of a thousand miles starts with but a single step, young Padawan.
Nurture your gift, and you can transcend any limitations you thought you had.
Fun fact the two finger ring is for punching you would usually go for the eyes with a ring like that!
Isn't that the point of brass knuckle rings? And if a 4 foot person wore that ring, they'd go for the jewels or mansion.
I discovered your videos a few weeks ago and they're so fun and therapeutic to watch and they motivated me to consider starting sculpting
Samee 💖❤❤
That's awesome to hear, glad you enjoy them!
¡You forgot do her eyeliner!, the eyeliner Is the thing that make her look badass on the drawing
Follygon: hey you dirty skippers!!
Me:...... Hey 😔
wow Cora, thought we were friends
@@Follygon omgod this is crazy Ily btw you inspire me to do art everyday
I feel like her eyes are more Asian in the 2-D image, and that this could have been emulated more in the 3-D sculpt. Otherwise, she's beautifully made!
6:13 Definition of "I did some mining off camera" 😂
Just discovered your channel. As a 2D artist, seeing drawings translate into 3D is extremely fascinating and educational.
If I were trapped in a universe i would be trapped in the mha universe, less competition for artist with all the hero’s. But in all seriousness it would be more trilling to see all the hero’s fighting
and dying in the crossfire-
The cat ear ring is in fact a self defense device
I would want to be in Jojos Biazzare Adventure, stands are cool. I’d probably end up getting beaten in any stand battle I had to do.
I love to hear that you worked for supercell. I think their characters were the ones that made me think oh my god that looks so cool I want to know how to do that:D
I would love to be stuck in Avatar the last air bender universe. I wonder what my bending will be, would suck if I am not one. But I am sure I am an air or water bender.
I'm an earth bender hehe
Love hearing artists explain their craft and really display their understanding of what they are doing
Thanks Red!
oh man you've really inspired me to try out 3D sculpting!! i was always a little intimidated by it and would always give up before i finished, but seeing where you started and how the model ends up really helps me understand that just because it looks silly when i start out doesn't mean it won't look good later!! thank you so much for all of your zbrush speedsculpts!! they really inspire me
as a loyal full video watcher, i love when youtubers get loose and personal, its fun to listen to :3 loved this
also mob psycho 100 is great!!
i have a new amount of respect for people who digital sculpt
"Hey ya dirty skippers"
I've recently stumbled across your videos and have been binging the vast majority ever since. The way you explain and show your process is extremely helpful and has definitely reignited my desire to jump back into character sculpting. Great stuff and beautiful work!
Thanks Allison!
I love the original artwork from imawonder, and seeing it turning into a 3D sculpture is amazing.
I love your work and you are a big inspiration for me! I am starting to explore digital sculpting and it is incredibly fun, but sometimes frustrating, seeing your videos makes me motivated to keep practicing.
I feel like her face is too thin. This is really cool and impressive tho
@Grimm she’s the top comment
yeah just a tiiiiny bit thin
Yeah definitely
Totally need wider face.. and eyes wider apart.. model now looks too 'angry'
Great timelapse tho!
Hey there Follygon! I just found your channel with this video and I just wanted to say you're already a huge inspiration to me! I'm about to go into my last year of undergrad and I only really found what I wanted to do with my life this past year, when I finally found an artistic outlet within the realm of computer science/graphics. I always had an artistic bend to me, but I love technology too, but I realized too late that I couldn't imagine just sitting and coding software for a living.
To hear that you only start in your early twenties (just like me!) is just super inspiring, and really makes me feel better about my future and "starting late" like I have. Thank you so much!
You’re in a very similar boat to where I was. Best of luck to you Ryan!
Almost at 100k subscribers, exciting! Thanks for all the help you've dished out these many years. I really improved my stylized sculpting and blocking out because of your videos. Wish you on a successful career!
Thanks Dog! Happy I could help through the years.
@@Follygon I didn't even realize it, but I've been linking your videos on the Zbrush subreddit for a while (when people ask on my posts how to stylize sculpts and how to get started on stylized sculpts) and only recently found out you're the mod for it haha
Hey so ya know the cat thingy? It's made for self defense, it's not just a cute thingy it's made to protect girls
20:03 I would love to live in the world of Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra, bending is so cool and technology is very advanced
I feel like her nose and face were a bit too thin, considering she's Japanese. Asian people tend to have a wider nose and she looks more western than the drawing. Great video though! Looks very nice!
Same, I also feel like he keeps making his lips look the same instead of following the reference?
Yeah I noticed that as soon as he started sculpting? It was super thin and pointed and the lips were too thick. I understand that sometime you want to make models look more “pretty” aka more white looking, but this just didn’t look right...
Brookalini The Great what do you mean pretty is white looking?
boi boi it’s just that beauty standards tend to glorify western features, yk? Things have changed a bit but mostly European features are the ones that have been “in fashion”. Btw I’m Asian/Arab so I’m not just some white person trying to speak on something that doesn’t effect me. Also I love your profile pic lol.
yea it feels weird... does he always lowkey whitewash his characters or?
Dude please keep it up! I absolutely love these. Not only is your talent and skill inspiring, but I also love your choices of things to sculp and artists to work with :)
This is the best example of “trust the process”
As someone who is branching out and watching digital sculpting videos, this was not only very informational but super inspiring! Loved watching you take it from the initial blockout to the final product! Awesome job :D
Your
art is literally breathtaking. I don’t even have words to describe how truly Inspiring you are. I don’t understand how you’re not at 1 mil yet haha
He's nearly there tho!
the way he said gouache rubbed me the wrong way but this is so beautiful 😍
I watched this whole video and I don’t regret it! This was so interesting
Thanks Zoe!
OMG having I’m bossy in the description made me laugh! I haven’t heard that song in so long
Kia Ora from New Zealand! Thank you, Ben, so much for sharing your character creation process. Your videos are really informative and helpful and I tend to use a lot of your sculpting tips&tricks in my 3D pipeline. Can't wait to see your next piece :)
Kia Ora Ora Ora 🤜 🤜 🤜
Glad you’ve found them helpful!
not at how you called out the skippers xD normally I'm a skipper but ohhhh MY GOSH! I loved watching this, so much that I didn't skip! XD I love the final piece, watching all your hard work was satisfying to watch and your Q&A inspired me hehe, have a lovely day! Awesome collab!
awesome job! one of your best sculpts to date!
I love how passionate u are about art 🖼
I would like to be in the Magic animal series because i love the fact that the animals can talk and are magical.
the 3D model is gorgeous and while both works are nice, i prefer it to the 2D version because the facial proportions are really beautiful
omg u need to 3D print this gorgeous model and sell it as a figurine
I loved watching this collab!! Both such different and amazing artists 💕
she looks so friggin cool omg
I enjoyed this whole video. It looks very tedious so I praise you, sir!
I'm so glad I found this! I'm upgrading from artist to game artist in college. This is so helpful. 💖
Glad you like it!
The sculpting is satisfaying👏
Yo, your podcast tastes are IMPECCABLE and your art is FANTASTIC. I've never watched the 3D art process on computers before, it was fascinating!
Yesss all amazing podcasts!
I know nothing about 3d art but THIS is awesome. I always watch the whole video because I think it's interesting, keep going love your stuff 😊
Thanks Vanessa!
HE CALLED ME OUT ABOUT BEING A SKIPPER- IM SORRY GOOD SIR
so happy I found your channel. I like digital painting and even did a Coraline bust sculpt on Zbrush before. I remember I crammed the basics and controls of Zbrush, a couple hour-long videos, and got right into it. Seeing your process is amazing because I have no idea what you're doing lol but it was a great watch. ♥
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another underrated CZcamsr 😩❤❤❤
I'm a big fan of imawonder and I really love this. This is all new to me. And I think I'm stanning a new artist.
I feel happy that i waited and didnt spoil the ending for myself love it.
Thanks Amirah!
this is so satisfying to watch
Wowza, you are extremely talented. I do digital art not 3D but this was really cool to watch, can’t wait to see what else you got!
Thank you so much 😀
This looks amazing! even though I'm not a 3D sculptor I find your art really inspiring
Seriously I stumbled across your channel and I’m freaking amazed by ur work people who skip are missing out and I find it so cute that u don’t mind it like fr that’s just🥺🥺but ur work is just freaking awesome ur seriously talented💓💓
you got me on the last part :( now I feel guilty not watching the video, I will proceed to watch the whole video.
The details with the hair!!!! 😲😲😲😳😳😳😳
I absolutely love this video! Fantastic work on this one! I've always thought that the workflow of dynamesh -> Zremesher -> dynamesh, (or rather the Blender equivalent dynatop -> Voxel remesh -> dynatop) really helps to get sharper and better defined forms, but I always see speed sculpts of people just banging out a perfect sculpt on the first go with just dynatop/dynamesh and I always thought "Am I doing something wrong?" Your explanations make the process seem much less "magical" than a lot of other people explaining their process, same thing for all your adjustments at the end of the video. Amazing job, and I'll be subscribed!
This is so great!! I’m obsessed 😍
Didn't even know this art medium existed omg
I dont understand how people can skip through the videoooo its so hypnotizing
I'd love to be in the Epithet Erased universe. Basically, if you're lucky enough to be the one in five people, you're born with powers. The twist is that all of your powers must revolve around one specific word, called an epithet. If you can connect it to your word, then you can do it. Everyone's epithet is unique to themselves, and they can get really strange. There's a character duo whose epithets are "Coupon" and "Bellybutton", for context. I think it''s the only fantasy story (that I know of) that doesn't revolve around some big evil that'll destroy the world. I won't have to be scared for my life, if the show's plot is just "NECKLACE. GET." lmao
Enough about my favourite show ever, you're actually a really amazing sculptor! You always pop onto my feed eve now and then. and it never ceases. to amaze me.
Oooo I will check this out! Thanks :)
She do be looking kind of white but watching you work is incredible. 30+ hours?! It's mind blowing, both of you are brilliant artists!! I'm feeling so inspired right now 😁
Daymn that was so cool!!! You're awesome mate I was hesitant about trying 3d art but now I feel kinda positive about doing so!
Ps love your work
YESS definitely visit New Zealand! Theres sooo many beautiful places to see here! Maybe after the pandemic tho xD
This is just an idea but i feel like it would be really satisfying watching someone livestream the process on twitch or something!
Not boring at all! I have been wanting to get into 3D modeling for so long but I know my pc is gonna crash since it has such little compacity, I can't wait to get started and move forward with my art
Looking forward to seeing your art!
Yesss I love her videos!! Also your videos are amazing and I love watching all the way through to see your process!
Glad you like them!
ur so positive! made me smile 🙃
It’s like, oh I don’t think it’ll look exactly like the og reference!!! But then when he does rendering 😮😮😮
i always put on ur vids while i’m working on a digital piece :) idk just something about your videos and voice helps me relax and draw
Wow, thank you!
given the characters battle readiness, the "ka" katakana on her shoulder is more likely the kanji for power. they're visually the same character but seeing it as a kanji gives it actual meaning, yknow?
Yep, that’s what I thought too.
Hey ya dirty skippers! 🤣 Came from Tina’s video, this was so cool to watch! It makes me want to learn digital sculpting, which I absolutely do NOT have the time or budget for, seeing as how I have a bunch of newly purchased art supplies I’ve been wanting to try that I haven’t even gotten to yet 😂
But hey! At least I can watch these and learn some skills for the future 😄
so beautiful!! amazing!!
I used to be kind of scared by the prospect, but I would love to love in the Pokemon world so much ;w; Like... Just the endless possibilities of that!
Btw, watching you creating a sculpture is somewhere near magical
