@TheFiddlah thanks for your words of appreciation! Taufiq's Mumbai Stamp is a one of a kind drum ensemble, because they play rivetting ryhthms of all styles, with a high level of energy, and apart from the grooves, have very interesting rhythmic compositions. We were lucky to capture this energy during our recording of this project. Thanks again for your encouraging words

Nice video. What are the names of the particular frame drums Taufiqji and his students are using? The dhol is obvious. Are the others just duffs? How about the bass sound from the upright drum Taufiqji uses? Is that a duff as well?

Does this man actually play any serious music? I have only ever heard him playing gimmicks (like this video) on various kinds of percussion instruments. Never seen him accompanying anyone in a classical performance.
+autobotftwww thats not gimmick.it took him years to study and find out these folk rythms.
Search "Zakir Hussain and Taufiq Quereshi" , if a performance with Zakir Hussain counts as gimmick or not so classical in your book, then leave it.
That performance is definitely a gimmick. Tell me, would you listen to any of his music without a video, in private, for your own pleasure? It is just a show. It may be a good show, but that's what it is, not serious music.
autobotftwww yes, I do :)
Your expertise is commendable, the chance is you might also be hearing his music, and not knowing it.
Yes he is not very famous like his brother Zakir Hussain, but there is a different league of lesser known musicians like Taufiq, Shankar Tucker, Karsh Kale who perform your so called "gimmicks" , but people do listen to them.

Fusion music don't work well, though some like it but never seen a serious fan. All music sound respectfully on their own culture. All so called new genres are so saturated in their playing style that everyone plays same riffs again and again. Some vocalists sound like deadman singing . Men sing like women and women sing like men. Both eating the words. Please stick to your own music and grow from there. Regards.
