Engines too. When your prop strikes while spinning under power the sudden stop can impart a lot of stress on the engine internals. It requires a major inspection on the engines so it’s easier to replace them.
Seems like a mechanical failure caused a mission abort and hard landing... At 0:25 the (disposable) rubber muzzle caps / covers are still intact on the quad 50's and 20mm.
Good observation on the guns' covers. Probably gear failure to retract, I think the left main isn't all the way in and he probably couldn't get them down. The fact that the ground crew is around implies to me he chose to cancel his sortie and return-to-base for the gear up landing.
@@capthawkeye8010thats a drop tank. it could have failed to release, possibly due to damage from a hit that damaged also hydraulics, or not. 38s did sortie with single drop tanks, so maybe that happened in this case, or it went out with 2 tanks and the left one hung up

First video I've seen with Lightnings in North Africa. This page impresses me yet again with this gold mine.
Omg now he has to change two propellers. You have two give props two the guy for soft landing.

I'm sure the ground crews didn't mind having a parts plane sitting around the field. Most losses never make it back to base.
