Russ, I loved your segment on The Center of The World in Felicity, CA. It was a surprise when I happened upon your piece while wandering thru a series of links to all sorts of curious places. I especially enjoyed your appreciative commentary about it--and you immediately recognized the incredible expense required to establish such a unique place. I have somewhat of a humble claim to fame here because my name is on one of the granite panels in the category of "Hall of Fame of Parachuting." Jacques Istel, the founder, mayor (and half of the population of Felicity), is the mastermind, passion, and funding behind this place. He is also a pioneer and innovator for parachuting activities in the United States during the sport's infancy in the 1960s. He put my name on the wall because I'm the administrator for a unique women's parachuting award program which was started in 1969. The program fell into oblivion for over 20 years until I revived it in 2012 and it now includes over 1,700 women skydivers who have met the criteria to earn the award. I have a travel trailer that is my home when I visit drop zones to skydive in different places. This summer, I'm headed for "heartland" America to jump in 12 states there which will complete my goal to make a skydive in all 50 states. Maybe our paths will cross some day on a future journey! Happy Trails from one senior traveler to another!
    Nancy Gruttman-Tyler
P.S. The spiral stairway to nowhere is actually part of the Eiffel Tower. In response to your suggestion that it is possibly supported by schools or universities--it is not. It's all private funding and a labor of love.

As a full time wheelchair user I’m very say that the main way up to the chapel wasn’t an accessible ramp (I looked on their website and did not see any accessible way up to the chapel). Especially since the ADA was signed into law in 1990 by President Bush. RampTheWorld on Instagram has some several cool ramps from around the world. It doesn’t have to look bad to be accessible. A ramp never stopped anyone, but stairs exclude many!

🙋‍♀️Hello Russ! Beautiful day! That sure was a kodak moment ascending to the Church with the blue sky & puffy white clouds. There was one weed sticking up out of the cracks of the side walk by the Religious section. Did you notice it? Such a perfectly made place to visit. As interesting as everything is, I'd need a week or more to absorb all that history. A lot of hard work went into making those. My Father was in the Korean War. He's gone now. I think he would have liked to have seen that wall. That honored our Veterans in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area with a picture hung like a flag on the electric poles. I found Uncle Bill's picture, while visiting but never Dad's.

  • @carlh-thehermitwithwi-fi679

I stopped your video and went to Google Maps to look at this overhead. I flipped it upside down, so the "church" was at the bottom. The configuration is a little disturbing, and everything going to the left..and the symbology is odd..but i cannot put my finger on were i saw it....it's pretty, just a but "weird".
I wonder if there is some connection to another building/etching of stones in different languages in GA.
Probably just my overcaffinated mind racing around, but pretty to see!
UPDATE! The eight pointed star is considered to be the symbol of Ishtar! Also associated with the planet Venus..and that planet is associated with...guess who? Give ya a hint...it's a hot place.

I think they must have gotten those big beams for the church from California, unless they're cottonwoods and that could come from Arizona. If you look at ancient stone structures the people then were doing the same thing, they were immortalizing their ancestors. They worshipped their ancestors. Most of the settlements were from 6-10,000 years old but I have seen some that they estimate may be 100,000 years old. There were people before the Little Ice Age but they seemed to have disappeared and then reappeared some 50,000 years ago.
