Palm Spring's Forgotten History - The Field Cabin Ruins and The Creative Brotherhood

  • In the early 1900s, Palm Springs, California was much different than it is now. The area was still sparsely developed and attracted many artists who came for the its scenic beauty. A group of artists, writers, and photographers formed the Creative Brotherhood, and built cabins at the base of Mt. San Jacinto. One of the members of the group was Avery Edwin Field.
The cabins, which were built in the late 1910s/early 1920s, are all gone. Replaced by mansions and Palm Springs' Historic Tennis Club neighborhood. Well, except for one. The cabin that was built by by Avery Field was built to last, and its ruins still stand at the base of the mountain, hidden away.
In this video we travel to Palm Springs and take the long way to find the ruins and talk about the history of the cabin and the Creative Brotherhood.
The Field Cabin Ruins are located at 33.817022, -116.553938

Another cool video! Love the comparison pic from 100 years ago to today. We think of a hundred years as a long time, but it’s really just a blink of the eye in reality. I believe it’s disturbing to most folks that in a hundred years there may be no trace of us left. The earth doesn’t care and moves at it’s own pace. Thanks again for your videos, always interesting.
