Even you are doing this for attention, every corp member does NYSC bc of a job if not, no body will answer that call.
There is an up and down in this. A serving government official has not been able to prove that she served while Davido, a young musician has shown that we need to respect the law. He has helped brand the NYSC itself. He does not need to serve in a local government; his company can request he serves there. He will attend a CDS that maybe meets just 4 months.

It's not only Davido that would go to camp but won't 'serve' ! I'm a serving Corper and I know a lot of corners that are serving in their father's house! We are just too hypocritical in this part of the world. Why not just call for a reform or scrap?

Restructuring is the word not scrapping. The values remain the same. But Nigeria as a whole is sick .
There is no need to bribe anybody, the NYSC makes concessions for persons like Davido who own businesses. Like Laila said, what greater service is there than representing your country at the international stage. The only thing would be if Davido shows up for CDS meetings? But then, there are those concessions.
One thing I have always said is that those who dish out information to the public must be well informed and knowledgeable to serve as a medium of information, education and enlightenment without being biased. There are always two sides of every coins. NYSC, though needs to be restructured is simply needed because of the experience you talked about. It's all about selfless service, discipline, and bonding. If I didn't serve perhaps I might never have been to Benin, or know the places and culture about that area. It was painstaking going through the process of teaching in a school and making best of my time. Taking instructions from soldier was all about discipline, my OBS experience was a delve into the future. The leadership training and patriotism engendered can't be overlooked. Nigerians like to badmouth what they don't like, does it make it right?

Nigeria is a country where they allow unnecessary engagement to prevent national development and competency.
NYSC is a waste of useful year of a young graduate. What is Davido serving for to foster national unity or to fulfill mandatory obligation that has lost its bearing.
Since 1973 NYSC has done nothing to bring us together... the people that fought the civil war never forgive each other, up till this time Igbos are not trusted to govern Nigeria.
A reasonable government would have know how to better Nigeria educational system by calculating all expenses expended on the program every year which runs to some billion naira and used the money to improve educational facilities and research in our schools.
But the military hierarchy are making millions from this useless program and there's no one in Aso Rock to challenge them and stop this monumental waste of resources.

Most Nigerian youths and no brain. This programme should be scrapped. It is a shame that everything is now entertainment when the rest of the world are creating the future.
NYSC is a scam. It's a waste of one year. How is sending someone to go and serve in a school serving the community. Are there not enough graduates in the schools teaching already. The allowee should be summed up and given to graduates after school. And please someone should tell that lady to drop the accent. It's obvious she is faking it. No be by force.
