Thanks for the really quick shooting tip Brady. You inspired me to order/put on layaway that rifle I mentioned in your last quick tip video about dry fire practice to help pass the time. Most people seem to want a lighter rifle for those long hikes up the mountain, but it seems logical that having some extra weight in a MAGNUM caliber can be beneficial. An 8.4 lb rifle like the one I ordered in .300WSM would be on a much sturdier platform than one that is 6-6.5 lbs sans scope, plus much less FELT recoil from that Magnum cartridge. I am not recoil sensitive and one usually doesn't feel it in the field after taking a shot at game it is the time behind it developing handloads, finding the right factory load if one wants to go that route, and getting it zeroed.
I am so glad that I ordered it when I did, because I checked the site I got it on layaway with and the price is back up to $850 from the $560 I got it for. It isn't a Browning even though the A-Bolt 3 Composite Stalker was a strong consideration (Was hoping to find the Western Hunter version, but couldn't in .300WSM). I can't afford a $1,000-$1,800 Browning X-Bolt Hell Canyon variant, even though I would LOVE to, but with the $$$ I saved on this one I can get more gear and buy more tags in hopes of making the best of my few opportunities.
I have been looking at the Leupolds VX-3i LRPs, VX-5HD, and the Vortex Viper HS-LRs and others that you suggested in your reply on your last quick shooting tip video. I can't wait to pay it off and get that scope matched up and put this quick pro tip or tactic to good practice. I will definitely have to get that RR rear support system you use, lightweight yet sturdy bi-pod that swivels, and a sling or carrying device all in due time. Then hopefully I will be ready for the 2020 seasons. I would love to do a spring bear hunt, to get some western experience before a fall mule deer, elk or pronghorn hunt. Obviously the very BEST way to figure that out is with you all at GoHunt and the Insider service. Thanks for lowering hurdles, especially for us aspiring western hunters like my brother, my cousin and I, etc...

I was looking at a Savage Axis yesterday and when I put my cheek on the stock I couldn't see the reticle. Very disappointing.

The one in the video is made by Hawkeye Customs and is a kydex type material. Picked it up off of Amazon. Super easy to drill and get the height set. If you want, you can check out an article that walks you through the easy process here: www.gohunt.com/read/skills/how-to-add-a-raised-cheek-piece-to-a-hunting-rifle

What gun stock is that? Looks like it's a Browning X-Bolt, but I don't recognize the stock.

My issue is they are all too high, stock too short.

An adjustable cheek piece design could you benefit you. You can raise and lower it to your specific gun.
