I love the fact that in a lot of depictions of Darkseid he fights with his hands behind his back and just uses his Omega Beams. It’s like he’s saying that he is so powerful he doesn’t even need to raise a fist. He doesn’t take his enemies seriously because to him they are ants.

When both fight it influences reality and existence
That’s always been my issue with the way DC writes Darksied. The only one who’s been able to write Darksied the way he should be written is Grant Morrison. He’s a metaphysical concept that’s beyond everyone in the DC universe and even his avatars are powerful enough to causally beat being such as the Specter, yet usually gets his ass kicked by the Justice League every other week and almost never wins. If DC wrote Darksied a little closer to the way Thanos is portrayed in Marvel comics, who has a damn good number of wins against Marvel heroes, Darksied would feel a lot more threatening against the DC universe

It's about will between Batman and Darkseid. The thing that makes Batman awesome is the fact that beyond his hard trained skills he is just an ordinary human, but he is super capable. He is the epitome of mind over matter, that's the key to his character. People think these are the things that should weaken him, and I just don't get that 👑
I actually learned about Darkseid’s true self/form from a video by The Imaginary Axis. It was kind of crazy learning that true Darkseid can even fit into our three dimensional reality.

You mentioned something I use to always bring up when people would compare Darkseid vs Thanos. He could never be as powerful as Thanos when Thanos fights Silver Surfer as an equal and Darkseid fights Superman as his equal. Glad you explained that though it only makes things more confusing. So there was pre new 52 Darksied who was equal to Supes and New 52 Darkseid who was equal to the entire JLA and now you have Darkseid equal to Anti-Monitor (which means equal to almost the entire DC universe).
But new Anti-Monitor is not orginal Anti-Monitor. And orginal Anti-Monitor need to absorb antimatter to go above base bronze age Superman level

I like when you cover older villains/entities that while being around for years is hard to nail down where they stand as of this current moment, or essentially what they are canonically. With this being said how does current day darkseid compare to perpetua? Not necessarily only in terms of power(although this breakdown could be helpful to visualize things), but of his standing and significance now that someone like her exists.
I've always seen him as the face of evil from when I first saw him in the animated superman show as as a kid, but with the introduction of like barbados, batman who laughs, and now perpetua you have beings that seemingly to their core are like twisted evil and they make darkseid actually look better. Like truth be told Rob I would rather be someone suffering under Darkseid that the batman who laughs or perpetua at this point.

This was a pretty good video but something I wanted to clarify is that the proper term for every version of Darkseid in the multiverse (and dark multiverse and a bit beyond) are emanations rather than avatars. They're more so the fragments of the essence of the true Darkseid that attatch themselves to specific universes, timelines, realities, and continuities and become the versions of the character we see most often. Avatars are actually created by the emanations to do their bidding when it's necessary for them, emanations do have a level of self-autonomy (although they're still technically controlled by the true Darkseid and seem to echo his will, if that makes sense) and aren't only able to do things if the true Darkseid makes them directly, it's very complicated but I hope you get the idea.
His new 52 origin sounds pretty cool but I think his original origin is far more interesting and way more personal to the character since it involves him interacting with his family more
I’m so confused, if the new 52 backstory of Darkseid is canon then how do they explain what the omega force is. If he just absorbed gods how did he obtain the omega force? The omega logos still show up on him it’s too iconic to get rid of but what does the omega force come from In the new 52
@@eternallyg I can't find the name of the comics where we see his new 52 origin for some reason (Would like to have the name) but from what I remember, he absorbed old gods power and later, obtained the omega force (read it long ago and I don't think they give an explanation of what the omega force in this one but they probably do in some others)

Darkseid is a bad and that’s why the few New God’s Issues about when Yuga Khan escapes the source wall are some of my favorite comics. Seeing Darkseid visibly terrified and trying to convince himself he was not scared after realizing Yuga was free and then turning around and running Away the moment Yuga-Khan arrived was priceless. As powerful as Darkseid is he was nothing compared to his father, even in the comic they say that Yuga-Khan was a far greater threat than Darkseid could ever hope to be. To powerful to be a recurring villain because nobody would ever have stood a chance against him, so they had to make him a dumbass and practically defeat himself by going back in the source.... then New 52 happened and they turned him into a little bitch.

Darkseid true form thing seems like a cop out to justify his defeats. You could slap that on any New God if that's the case since Darkseid is one of them and has never been shown to be that much more than any of them. So Orion, Lightray, Miracle, and Barda must have "true forms". Yeah it was so say confirmed in Final Crisis, a story written by Grant Morrison who Rob even says in the video is known to do out there stuff with his comics. Before that comic DS wasn't some abstract concept or universal level entity let alone multiversal. The whole true form thing could be tacked on to anyone now tbh. True form Batman is the reason that Batman always wins is because his true self is always backing him up and one day when he really needs help he will give Batman access to power beyond that of mortals and even true form Darkseid will shudder at the thought of facing him.
I mean considering Darkseid's established origins and status as a member of the New gods this whole true form thing doesn't make sense.

Grant Morrison has the talent to tell ingenious stories and concepts, unbelievably cryptic and obscure. Whenever I read anything by him, it's always a challenge. Sometimes it's very satisfying and other times it's just frustrating. I love him and hate him in equal measure.

I've always found the "true" old gods idea interesting ; it's really just trying to ret-con what various writers have done into something that makes sense in the big picture and continuity, but in a way (and I think we all do this ) it's just always taking the power powerful feats as the baseline when talking about a character, the only "truth" is the highlest power level we've seen a character at rather than another approach where we look at the most recent incarnation as the canon character. The Beyonder in Marvel is a great example thats been all over the place is he orig secret wars (powerful) , SW2 (insane) , a bit of a cosmic cube, a inhuman mutant , or a member of a crazy powerful alien race ? which one is canon? I think you have to ask which one is canon in 2020

Yes, they can. Darkseid came from the Source, which is the consciousness of the Presence.
Lucifer's presence shatters TF darkseid and the Presence accidentally erases the entire omniverse while talking to his son about their dysfunctional family.
