  • Singer and musician Luke Kelly is laid to rest at Glasnevin Cemetery Dublin.
    Mass was said by Father Michael Cleary and The Dubliners performed during the ceremony.
    Luke Kelly’s family and friends were joined by people from the worlds of television, theatre, radio, politics, sport and music.
    Guests included John Sheehan, Kieran Burke, Barney McKenna, Finbar Furey, Jim McCann, Charles Haughey, Albert Reynolds, Noel Pearson, Phil Coulter, and Ronnie Drew. The people of Dublin also came in their thousands to bid farewell to one of their own.
    Ronnie Drew describes Luke as,
    "One of the greatest singers of all time."
    An RTÉ News report broadcast on 2 February 1984. The reporter is Caroline Erskine.

    It’s so sad to loose the greatest Irish folk singer so soon, no one will ever match this man’s deliverance of a song, he took them by the scruff of the neck , a pure bloody genius, never will be replaced ,,, 😔😔😔🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

    Can anyone find the beginning of this where the newscaster introduced the report I would like to see the whole thing if it’s possible. Thanks to whoever found this piece of footage and uploaded it to CZcams. It’s a great piece of history

    1:56 does that headstone say Luke ‘died 31st Dec 1966’…?

      His father was Luke Kelly - died in 1966. Quite normal in Ireland to be buried in the same plot with other members of the family.

      His father name was also Luke Kelly.

      @francisboyle you're right, it's actually called Saint Paul's Section but it's classed as Glasnevin
