As a military veteran and the wife of a Vietnam veteran who served 2 tours there I am VERY offended by JD Vance and NY Post going after a fellow veteran and questioning Walz 24 year military service to this country. Vance was only in Iraq for 6 months as a reporter (never in combat), a 1 1/2 years less than my husband served in Vietnam. He also was only in the military for 4 years vs the 24 years that Walz served. So, if you really want to go there, let's talk about your hero, President Bone Spurs who was never in the military and paid to get his deferment to avoid going to Vietnam. Walz joined the Guard when he was 17 years old in 1981. He had left the Guard just before 9/11 but after 9/11 he signed back up even though he wanted to start his political career. In 2003 he was deployed to a support unit in Italy where he assisted his unit's contribution to the European Taskforce -- a staging area for supply support, training, and air-support. Anyone that knows the military knows you go where they send you. Walz attained the rank of command sergeant major. In order to keep that rank he had to finish his army schooling to maintain that rank and commit to additional years of service. Walz decided in 2004 to retire from the Guard so he could start the next chapter of his life. He retired in 2005, but because he did not finish his command sergeant major schooling before he retired, his retirement was processed at the rank of master sergeant. Walz served 24 years and some months in the National Guard. He was at the end of his military career and wanted to run for office as his next career. His unit was notified in 2005 they were being called up within six months. Walz already had planned to retire from the Guard before the call-up notice. The military does not rely on one person. Jd spews vile garbage. Gov. Walz dedicated decades to our country in the military. The oath is to the defense of our country, our Constitution, NOT to a war. How can anyone, especially a veteran, make such a horrendous accusation concerning the nature of the Governor's military service. The fact that he served over 20 years is admirable and I, for one, am extremely grateful for his readiness to protect us from both foreign and domestic threats. Shame on jd. Stolen valor my behind!

He even re-enlisted after 911. He retired more than a year before that deployment.

@@og-up4rthe retired a year before deployment as his wife was having a baby after years and years of IVF. He was also over 40. Vance was a frigging journalist not an active combat marine😂
