@@tedcrilly46 It really does depend on what part of Britain you originate from. There's more Scandinavian blood in the Britons living in Yorkshire, Northumbria, Norfolk and Suffolk. York was the capital city of the Vikings when they were in England so a good deal of Viking influence is concentrated around there. I come from South Cheshire, both my mother's family and my father's family farmed in Cheshire for many, many generations. When I had my DNA tested, my results showed that I had a small % .of Scandinavian and a small % of Northern French (thus revealing some Norman heritage, as the Normans were originally from Scandinavia), about 12.5 % Welsh/ Celtic (fitting in with the fact that one of my great grandmothers came from Anglesey) and the rest was English/ Saxon concentrated around Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. I think I can call myself an Anglo-Saxon.
We have to be brave enough to ignore the shouts of racism and xenophobia and fly our flag with pride - no other country puts up with this name calling.

I once admitted on social media my proclivity to be surrounded by my own kind, that being anglo Australians. I added that the demographics of my Capitol city in Australia had s changed to the point where it didn’t feel like an Australian city anymore, and I felt I didn’t belong there, and my move away could be considered “white flight”. My Parents, Uncles, Aunts all went to 'All White Schools'. Their neighbours were all white, Shop Owners were all white and hence their friends were all white. I've seen their School Photographs from the local Comprehensive Schools (1930s) all white. I've seen photos of Street Parties held at the time notably for VE and VJ Day and everyone is White. I've also looked at archive News Footage showing the local Market and various local Public Events such as Street Races from the late 1930's and 40s'. At all the Fairs, Street Racing, Street Parties ALL WHITE. Were my Family raised in some elitist White English 'Compound' ? Were they Members of some White's Only Commune ? No. They were born and raised in East London during WW2. The first time they actually saw Black People, face to face, was when the American Soldiers came over during WW2. In all their early experience in London the diversity they experienced was that one of my Mum's best friends was Jewish and there were some Irish Catholics as well. In fact my Maternal Grandmother was herself from Cork ( Does this make me 'mixed Race' I suppose ).
Until very recently the UK and it's Capitol were WHITE and the only cultural diversity we had was English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh.
Remember we insisted that there was NO colour bar when the American troops came over in WW2. Waycist country indeed.!

Arthur Kemp wrote a book about the 4 nations of Great Britain and explained that we've all kept our homogeneity and that even the advent of Anglo-Saxons on the early Brittons didn't change the racial component of our Island nation.

Generally accepted now with the advent of DNA profiling etc that our isles did not have mega waves of Anglo Saxons appearing in a short time frame. Hence the current gene pool within our peoples across the British Isles. Genes from Norway Viking influx in particular are high in the North of Britain. After a recent DNA test and research into my family tree it turned out that my ancestors on both sides of my family fought at the battle of Hastings, so I have a strong Norman, therefore Scandinavian heritage. My DNA showed only Scandinavian and Germanic traits. My roots in this country go back a thousand years which I am extremely proud of. We will always be Anglo Saxon / Scandinavian because we will never bred with the current invaders so our DNA will survive

Two of my ancestors were on the beach at Normandy in 1066, a father and his son. They fought so well together, that the son was married off to a minor cousin of the conqueror. We lost our fortune in a war of accession many years later but my point is that for some of us, forgetting our history is impossible, it's written in everything we see around us.

Ancestry DNA currently has me as 43% England/ northwest Europe, 35% Ireland (thanks mum), 11% Scotland, 7% Wales and 4% Norway. Done my family tree back to the 1600's so far. Can I be in the Anglo Saxon club? My partner is Russian, her dad calls me Anglo Saxon. Currently stranded on an island off the east coast of Australia, hot here in the summer, cant stay out in the sun for more than 5 minutes without getting toasted, indigenous here don't have that problem. Generally, Britain was made up of local tribes such as the icene, trinovanties, etc. They also had contact, not always friendly, with tribes bordering the North Sea and the North Atlantic coast. Such as those from Saxony, etc. All these Northern European tribes were also influenced by the Roman Empire.

The "proud to be anglo-saxon" crowd are using the term to mean any white person who speaks English natively and whose cultural affiliations are UK or USA. It has nothing really to do with 5th century Western Germanic colonisers of Post-Roman Britain (and "coloniser" is not meant as a pejorative, just a historical fact).

Our forebears achieved truly amazing feats, admittedly, not all good but most were good and which helped and brought prosperity and civilisation to much of the world.
