It's probably because Maya and Riley always have the same effect on each other we saw one of the episodes that whichever group Miley within a whichever group Riley was in it would be good or bad and it just made it seem like Riley had a bigger effect on Maya another way of saying it is Riley and Maya are like dark and light light there is darkness to for you can't have the sun without shadows and we can't have night without the moon and stars

disagree as someone with dyslexia and other disabilities learning and other. i’m really sick and tired of the “i’m SAD and EMBRSESSED about my disability so i HiDE it” shit i’m sick and tired of the abled characters ‘accepting’ it and saying “it’s not shameful” i know it’s trying to be supportive but it’s not.
in efforts to denounce the idea it’s shameful they end up making disabled people feel as if we are supposed to feel ashamed as that’s what they are portraying even if they says “no it’s fine” they are still showing people being inherently ashamed by their disability thinking they are broken and worthless and having one be told by abled people they aren’t disgusting and broken.
i’m not good at getting points across so in short portraying disabled people as inherently ashamed of their disability contributes thinking disabilities are shameful and you should be ashamed of them. it also portrays disabled people as to stupid to understand they aren’t broken and have to be told so. and it’s full of abled savior shit. i don’t need an abled person to say they don’t think i’m a cripple to not hate myself. also it over dramatic af people finding out your disabled isn’t something to cry about and i’m pretty sure no disabled person would actually do that shit.

The fact that Mason wouldn't leave her alone while she lives with Harper was weird! The old Mason would've respected her feelings and stayed friends with her. Im sorry but I always dislike this couple. Mason had zero personality. I thought it was kind of cool that he was an artist and I thought that could be something the two bond over but Alex doesn't even like his work and it's rarely brought up after the episode he was introduced. I feel like girls just liked him because he was British. Then when he wasn't boring he was being problematic. The fact that people glaze over that HE LITERALLY ATE DEAN drives me nuts. As well as the fact that the thing that makes Alex forgive him is her looking at his memories and it's only memories of her. Girl, that is NOT romantic! It's creepy and obsessive! He also seemed way too passive for Alex. Half of thier relationship was Alex bossing him around which made me dislike Alex. Like they just bring out the worst in eachother 🙄 Instead of giving him actual character development they made him a werewolf and chose magic drama over character development. Or any sort of character/personality whatsoever

I hated the love triangle. Especially for their treatment of Lucas. Like when Riley ended things and was just like "we're just friends now, so you will start dating Maya" without even really ever taking into account that Lucas actually has feelings of his own. And some of that was the writing of Lucas' character that he just let them without saying anything, but it just made his character seem kind of...dull? Like he has to be told his own feelings. Her character really went from like a flawed, but positive and optimistic person who was supportive of her friends to kind of dumb, controlling, kind of preachy and judgmental (especially in the episode where they bring up religion) and full of toxic positivity.

    • @izzy6687
      @izzy6687 Před 3 lety +76

Yes especially the triangle Maya didn’t want to hurt Riley’s heart so she decided to not love Lucas in my opinion plus clothes and grades do t change the person. I always felt that Riley always saw Maya as the dangerous bad kid but if she looked closer she could’ve seen that Maya has a beautiful heart and cares more than Riley about her friends and always wanted the best for them. Unfortunately I wish I could say the same for Riley but she was always in Rileytown and always got what she wanted and always focused on herself and was selfish while Maya focused on everyone but herself and when she found who she was everybody thought she was turning into Riley.that show was so good until they made Lucas choose Riley and made Riley a selfish brat. Sorry to the Rucas shippers but Lucaya had more passion and love then Rucas ever did they loved each other but kept there mouths close to make Riley happy because she was in Rileytown and never saw the real world. Sorry for my rant

I feel with the sharpay argument, there is one thing going on. Yes, she was the alpha in high school, but as soon as she enters the real world, it makes sense that she has to learn the value of hard work and there will always be someone bigger and more powerful than you. Sharpay learns and experiences this in the film. At least she found herself again in the end.

The basketball team made fun of her after she hit on Troy and part of the reason Gabrielle and Troy got the part is because it got people to show up, meaning that people didn't show up to see Sharpay. How is SHARPAY on this list? An arguemtn can be made for Mac or Tess or whatever, I suppose, even though I disagree witht hem, but Sharpay is one of the few DCOM characters who is so amazing that she exceeds the movie sphere. I mean she might be the only one. Like there are amazing characters in Disney Channel shows, but for movies only Sharpay rings as standing with them, or even above them. She's the queen of cool, although I will say the Status Quo thing is dumb as a brick. Stupid song too. But what makes her cool is that she's confident, fabulous, puts on stunning shows, she is full of life and spirit, and like Garbriella by contrast is very reserved, she might be the star of the movies but it's Sharpay who makes everything work.
Which is why what they did with Sharpay in the TV show is so dumb. It doesn't matter that they're trying to be representational. You do NOT do that to one of the best,
I say one of the best because now I know Paige Olvera, Jasmine Kang, Harley Diaz, and Rachel Diaz, all amazing, and Sharpay goes with them.

Like London was always dumb, and yet she had touching moments where she could actually make smart observations about the people around her and she was compassionate and had instances where you saw how lonely she was. By the time she was on the SS Tipton, she got less compassionate, more stupid, like dangerously stupid, and her backstory became thinner and thinner. Really disappointing. A few episodes before the season finale, Bailey Pickett (who also sucks for her misandry as shown in the beginning of “Paris in Breakup (Part 2)” even though it’s clear that Cody was just having a practice date, not a real date, with London) even stood up to London Tipton for her douchey behaviour towards her (until she decided to become submissive to London’s abusiveness). This is why she shouldn’t act THIS stupid because she’s pretty much turned into Mater in Cars 2. In Lab Rats, I feel like the whole main cast just became more of stereotypical archetypes by the end of the series. They were interesting early on, but by the time it reached the Bionic Island, Adam was the strong, dumb mentor; Bree was the pretty girl; and Chase was the nerd. Only Leo felt a bit more natural. She had so much potential in z&c, which we saw in episode where she was poor or when her stepmom came. Her relationship with Maddie also played a major part in what made her character so good and feel more realistic. I feel like On Deck should have allowed us to see her relationship with Bailey get better. But instead of taking the good qualities that her and Maddie had, they instead chose to just have London say all these negative things about Bailey. Also I feel like her character got even more dumb than she was in the first season of Zack & Cody. We saw that he was kind, sensitive and a great friend. Then in HSM3 (which I know isn't a DCOM, so maybe he doesn't count haha), he just went back to scheming and such. They tried so hard to get people to accept zombies in the first movie and then the second movie rolls around with the werewolves and everyone immediately does the same thing they did to the zombies. At the very least humans are familiar with zombies and have methods to control them and the zombies are complicit in this and just want to be accepted. The werewolves just do whatever and the humans don’t like that and the zombies (zed specifically) thought this was bad too

I felt very similarly about eugene too! I couldn't figure out why for a while because he did still have his fun snarky personality, and his relationship with rapunzel was really great, but personally I think it's because disney had to get rid of his "thief" persona. The fact that he went from a lovable criminal to a COP felt so weird... I think without his ability to play fast and loose with the law anymore he really lost a lot of that "morally ambiguous but with a heart of gold" charm.

In the series he has no development at all, he's just stupid and their relationship is never romantic at all. They ruined it so much and it's probably because frozen was more popular so they gave rapunzel a sister and made the whole show about them and reduced the love interest to the dumb boyfriend side character just like kristoff in frozen 2. i agree with the descendants boys being underdeveloped, and it's like, part of me gets it bc, a lot of the times, girls are the ones getting less storylines so the fact that they flipped it is nice, and there is the whole thing of marketing to young girls, but the other, bigger part of is like, while i understand that having 4 main characters can make each of them having a developed storyline hard, the core four are a group and they are the CORE FOUR and so i was very much looking forward to having them ALL get storylines. but as you said, in the second movie, jay's individual story was literally 3 scenes in total and carlos had maybe 4 dedicated to him. and in the 3rd movie, it was even less there, like in my head, he and gil have a whole happily ever after but it is in my head, so pretty useless. there was that deleted scene of carlos being sad that jay was leaving for a different college, and i feel like that could've been their storyline, the college thing, like carlos mentioning he got into a vet program, and maybe his sadness at their friend group being apart for the first time since they got to auradon, and having their whle adventure make him realize that they'll always be a part of each other's lives. maybe we could even set up the gil thing by having jay say something at the start of like im cool being the only single person in our group, i would need someone able to keep up with me, and so when gil and him start bonding, we'd know in a more direct manner that gil might be the one for him. it would still be not a lot, but at least it would be something. i think about this a bit too much for my liking

They never let him develop as his own character and he just becomes Rapunzel's boyfriend, even though his past and trauma are just as complex as Rapunzel's. The stuff with CeCe is so sad and frustrating! Especially when you think about that a lot of the mistakes she made in the season three clip are likely a result of her dyslexia. I'm dyslexic, and struggle a lot with maps and can totally see myself misreading that email. To see all the characters berating CeCe for something she has no control over and having zero empathy for her is so hard to watch. The show really shouldn't have turned CeCe into dizzy comic relief, but the least they could have done was provide the actual context to why she sometimes gets in binds like the France trip. Not that it would have been easy to do that in a non-ableist way. The fact that the show just forgot she was dyslexic or didn't care enough to do anything with it is so frustrating. He always calls her lazy or selfish and doubts her abilities. He also seems self-centered and vain, like when he gets captured by the fake authorities because he was admiring himself in a mirror.
So, he doesn’t respect Alex’s wishes in the WOTY episode and the apartment episodes. Then, in the final episode, though he is cheering for her, he keeps bringing up how he had no faith in her and how he’s a little embarrassed rooting for her. That just really bothered me. Less awful, 8n my opinion, is his behavior in Alex vs Alex. He picks the wrong Alex specifically because he doesn’t think she would possibly do something nice for Harper. Alex even acknowledges this in the end, when she says Harper is the only person who is happy with who Alex is.

All of maya’s friends basically said “ We don’t like that your happy now, that you have moved past your dad leaving, that you realize school is important, and that your dressing like an adult. Please turn back into an angry hurt child so that you can be ‘real’ again.”
Like that is not how growing up works, and if your “friends” treat you like it is? There not your friends.

They really did Maya so dirty in GMW, Maya finally became herself, who she wanted to be and everyone just said “Oh no, you’re just turning into Riley!” When she had actually had character development! She seemed fine the way she was but everyone was trying to convince her that it wasn’t her?! They shouldn’t have controlled her like that. They really ruined Maya.

About Mason: In the special when they found out that he is a werewolf, Mason said that werewolf are very passionate (I didn't saw in english so i don't know his exact words) and thats why he said out of nowhere that he never forget Juliet.
I think they use that excuse and the fact that Alex save him of being a wolf forever to make him needy and jealousy.
Storywise, I think at first he was playing cool boyfriend until Alex realize he was a werewolf and then the world went down (he became a wolf, she transform him back almost and then everyone looked at him diferently for one episode). And after that he starts to show that he is jealous and a bit possessive (and that was a type that Alex used to have and like). But, like Alex, he has to work out these traits, which is more difficult for him because of his werewolf side.
But scriptwise I think his cool side was over and It was time to make him a comic relief (I didn't like this), and he became that way for writers make jokes about his antics. 🤷

I think Sharpay is more insecure ib her own movie bc she is not in East High anymore. I mean, she played the main character of all the spring musicals East High presented, so she was confident enough to act like the queen she is. However, when she is outside this bubble, and she discovers how Broadway really works, she becomes aware that she is not the one out there. So, maybe that's why Sharpay lets someone be over her, because she starts feeling insecurities after realizing that nobody, except East High students, will treat her like "the queen".

They completely ruined his character in the second part, and there after. He could've been a character that had major development from this kinda cocky celebrity to a down to earth guy, but they not only never let him come down to earth, they made him a complete wackadoo. Even in season one he wasn't that crazy, he still had some normal moments, but in the second part of achey jakey heart, he couldn't do anything normal. Not to mention later he cheats on Miley, they completely ruined what could've been great.

I loved the Jake/Miley dynamic and development during the slow-burn phase in S1, and then was happy about them getting that real chance in the 2 part special and then.....the potential did not work well at all. The ending of the 2nd part was intriguing with leaving the door open for the future for a maybe after he matured, but then....he was always kinda still stuck in his own world sadly, and it's a shame because they could have been great.

I re-watched Girl Meets World, and Maya becoming Riley actually makes sense with how the other students treated Maya. In the yearbook episode, we know that Maya was pretending to be Riley. Lucas has said that they should go back to who they really were because people would miss who they really are. Maya responded telling Lucas that he shouldn't worry because people would miss her. Then multiple students chimed in and told Maya not to change because they liked Riley more and they didn't care who played here. Lucas then tells here that she's the most stable and has a perfect life, and then stumbles on his worlds and makes a comment about how she doesn't have the perfect home life, and says that well she's there. Farkle then says that they should be the best person they can and then Maya says that Riley Matthews is the best person she could be and continues to act like Riley. I think after hearing this she become more like Riley so people will like her, and I think it was subconsciously because she was telling everyone she wasn't riley. Because she was becoming more like Riley, Lucas was then confused and if you really think about it, it was riley the whole time because Maya was dressing and acting more like Riley. And now that I've written this, I think that Lucas not wanting to hurt her feeling was more he didn't Maya to feel like she did in that episode, not wanted for who she is.
Re-watching it helped understand why they did it, I just wish they would have made it more obvious. And when Maya tells him to go tell Riley that he picked her, I wish that was a longer conversation about how he likes her as friend, but the friend he knows, not the Riley look-a-like and him explaining that He didn't want her to spiral. Also I think it majorly through Lucas off when Maya didn't want him to ride the bull, because that would have been something Riley would do, not Maya, she is usually the one who would want to do something like that out of everyone in their friend group. I think that if this wasn't a kids TV show I think that it would have gone this direction, but they didn't want the kids to be lost. I don't think they realized that a bunch of teenagers would watch the show
