HOW to CLEAN the BRAIN--Glymphatic system
The glymphatic system is the analog of the lymphatic system in the CNS
The “glymphatic system” has two primary purposes: one purpose is to serve as a waste clearance system critical for tissue homeostasis and the second is to distribute non waste compounds (glucose, lipids, amino acids, and neurotransmitters) to the brain
Getting more quality sleep: Glymphatic function has been shown to be greatly enhanced while you are asleep. Sleeping on your side: Interestingly, researchers have found that in the brains of mice, the glymphatic system cleared amyloid beta most rapidly when they slept on their sides.
**First, the channels of the glymphatic system fill with cerebrospinal fluid.
**This fluid collects “garbage” like proteins, toxins, and other waste products as it flows along the network.
**Your brain then flushes this waste at different drainage sites, where it moves through your body and exits just like any other type of waste.
Improving glymphatic function through lifestyle interventions and medical management may help mitigate the risk and progression of these diseases.
While sleeping on your side (lateral position) in general is beneficial for glymphatic clearance, research has not definitively established whether the left or right side is superior. However, some studies suggest that sleeping on the right side might be more advantageous for overall cardiovascular health, which could indirectly benefit glymphatic function. Here are a few considerations:
Right Side:
May reduce the pressure on the heart, improving overall cardiovascular function.
Some studies suggest it might be more comfortable and promote better sleep quality.
Left Side:
Can improve digestion and reduce acid reflux, as the stomach and its gastric juices are lower than the esophagus when lying on the left side.
Ultimately, the most important factor is to ensure you are getting quality sleep, as adequate sleep is critical for glymphatic clearance. If you find one side more comfortable or if you have specific health considerations, choose the position that helps you sleep best.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow is a critical aspect of maintaining central nervous system (CNS) health. The CSF is a clear, colorless fluid that surrounds and cushions the brain and spinal cord, providing mechanical protection, nutrient delivery, and waste removal.

What specialty are you a doctor in?
For everything who has lymph issues, if you buy a small trampoline at any sports store (not expensive, easy to store) and jump on it 15-20 min a day (you can do more if you like) it absolutely helps with lymph drainage! It’s fun & effective. Good luck!🍀

@@mariavictoria7829 thanks very much, i'll take it easy, instructions did say not to jump on it, but bounce off of it, lol, once i'm at a safe weight, then I start jumping on it
A good quality rebounder is best. You should look it up as to why.
I can't trampoline anymore. A stroke took my ability to jump. Now I don't know what to do to drain lymph.
The irony is finding this while awake with brain injury insomnia at 330 am😂 Thank you!

I am in excellent health for a man of 55. I exercise, eat right, fast regularly, red light and inversion therapies, etc, and I have no chronic health issues at all, but poor quality sleep has always been my achilles heel. No matter what I do (and I've tried it all) I just can't seem to get much deep sleep, I never have. The strange thing is, I still feel healthy and well rested most of the time. I'm starting to think I just don't need as much sleep as other people because my labs are damn near perfect, with no red flags.
Labs may be perfect, but have you taken an IQ test lately? I'm guessing you'll find your sleep issue is impacting your IQ and that may be the "red flag" you are overlooking.
Don't bother with the online "free" IQ tests. Firstly, they probably aren't free because they could end up costing you, big time, down the road when employers, lenders, insurers, partners, etc. mine your IQ data and find out you may be dumb. Secondly, they really are not as reliable as an IQ test you pay to have administered by a professional who agrees to confidentiality.

@@JennWatson The 6:00 rule is huge - a game changer when it comes to well-being. One challenge, it seems, every once in a while, maybe once a week or so, I'll get hunger urges late at night that keep me awake. Once in a longer while, maybe once a month, I'll give in and snack, but I'm working on that. I'll try your magnesium
I have to go back to taking magnesium. @Franklin-pc3xd do you know a supreme, clean brand of mag?
I acquired a weighted blanket and its been a blessing in my life. Its a strange experience but basically its like a calming hug. I found myself not moving all night and would wake up in the same position as I fell asleep.

I'd try it of I didn't have to buy one, lol. I tend to hate feeling even a slightly heavy comforter on my at night.
Circadian health for the brain and sleep win! Sunrise, outside with bare eyes, as my first light sets my melatonin for that nights sleep. Sunset, again outside with bare eyes, signals my body it's time to release melatonin. Good amber colored blue blockers after sunset is a must, as screen lights are set to the kelvin intensity of noon day, which confuses our innate body clocks. Apps like Twilight block the blue light completely as well. I've not missed a sunrise in nearly 3 years and my sleep and health are supreme at age 60!
This is amazing to hear. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing! I like how you explained that the screen lights are set to a "noon" setting. My brain clicked lol take care!
Wonderful explanation! Thank you for the advice.
I had chronic anemia from menstrual flooding for a decade or longer until I almost died from it. A supplement called Mexidol or emoxypine, changed my life. Try out both, because I feel more mentally stable when I sleep on the right. I stay asleep longer. On my left I wake up more I feel more anxious. I heard it puts more pressure on your heart too. That naturally people that have heart issues will sleep on the right. I remember my dreams more to the left. The problem is I feel better when I don't remember anything.
I get a JBL 6 speaker crank up alpha theta or gamma waves or binearal beats full blast and let the vibrations do the work on my neck and throat
Sounds great, I can’t sleep at all, going on two years of insomnia, even when I do sleep I feel dead tired when I wake up, I can’t get tired at night. No matter what I do.
Try adding minerals to your morning routine, as well as morning walks without sunglasses
@@tjkasgl I’m taking Adrenals, DHEA, B complex, Vit D, B12/Folate and a cortisol manager at night which still isn’t working consistently, i sometimes take a Benadryl or melatonin to help get me tired, when I do that I feel extra groggy the next morning. I do take morning walks, I work outside and I often hit golf balls in the sun as well. I used to work out but fatigue is getting worse and I just don’t have it in me, my body feels weak.
Certain strains of mold spores in the home/ventilation can cause this along with headaches, congestion, itchy nose/eyes, anxiety, brain fog and various other symptoms. Other allergies can also cause insomnia, as can hyperthyroidism, high cortisol, and various vitamin deficiencies. That’s just a few potential causes to consider, not an exhaustive list.
@@PaulSmith-l5g so about two years ago my wife and I had a black mold infestation in the wall behind our washer and dryer because a pipe from upstairs was leaking. I had numbness and tingling in my head, migraines for 14 days in a row, congestion and trouble breathing, we didn’t check the wall until the symptoms were really bad. I went to a doctor he told me I was imagining my symptoms because I “heard about mold” and everytime I go home now I imagine I’m having symptoms. Anyways we got the wall fixed and the symptoms subsided, but ever since then I haven’t been sleeping, I have horrible brain fog, fatigue, low temperature and pulse, itching eyes, bad congestion, headaches almost everyday. Is there a way to test if I have mold in my system?

I believe having good company is absolutely fundamental which relates to brain health as well. I'm not sure the amount of social isolation we see today could have been possibly ever in the history.
Also, the excessive use of internet seems to be normalized, which is another thing that cannot be good for the brain.

He doesn’t even mention it, (he’s not a sleep specialist) but GET YOUR D LEVEL TESTED! Also a sleep study might help pinpoint sleep apnea/lack of N-REM cycles. Melatonin also can help a lot.
But only great D levels will hit our brains’ absolutely needed SLEEP PARALYSIS SWITCH getting us into N-REM reparative cycles! We do other things in REM, so dreaming is not reparative. We must be paralyzed while our glymphatic system pulses out our daily (even old muck) toxins. This paralysis must occur for our reparative DeltaWave sleep cycles to function.

Getting adequate sleep is extremely difficult during the menopause transition!
Dr. Jung...thoughts please
My midwife recommended progesterone cream. It helped me with sleep probably because it lessened the negative menopause symptoms. It was in an applicator pump which dispensed the correct daily amount. It gets applied to a different spot each day, so rotate on right thigh, next day left thigh, next day belly, etc. for 3 weeks then 1 week don’t use any, then 3 weeks on, 1 week off.
I bought mine at a health food store and it does not require a prescription but check with your GYN doc first because of possible drug interactions, etc. as you would with any medication.

Get your hormones tested. Around this time, it could be too much estrogen - not enough progesterone to balance, too little estrogen- low progesterone, too much estrogen going in wrong directions meaning the metabolism and detox of the hormones is not filtering properly. Check the hormone levels.

Left side sleeping is the most ideal. It’s recommended most, including during pregnancy. Look st the anatomy, the body has better flow when lying on the left side. As to water. Most of us need about 1 1/2 to 2 liters per day. Too much water intake is dangerous. Also water intake for clearing debris as well as hydrating is all about the potassium/sodium pump. Be sure to get the RDA on both (much higher than most of us get) and use real salt, not table salt. Redmond’s has the most minerals and least amount of toxins of any salt on earth. You’re welcome. 😁
