Saw this for the first time recently in Los Angeles love it. I've been fascinated with Greek mythology since like 6th grade I was always captivated by it and I knew their story but I would forget their names. I went in blind for the musical and you will it was about Greek mythology but I didn't know what when they said that she has to follow him behind and he cannot look back I knew which story and I knew the ending and I was hoping for a different ending like every time I would reread it he always hoped for a different ending it's bittersweet and they kept true to the original I still love it I want to see it again
So I generally only ever see touring shows and will generally defend them as "well if you haven't seen the original..." But in this case, I totally agree. The claw door there was used prior to represent Hades coming off of the train, so I had mentally blocked it out as representative of the train itself, and so I sort of saw this moment as "wait, so she just gets back on the train?" Now, having looked up videos of the original, I get what they were going for, but it definitely lacked a punch here. I almost feel like they could have done more with less, like darken the lights and have her run offstage, I dunno.
It was like this for Los Angeles to that door and it makes sense because in the original story she's dead so her spirit goes back to the underworld I can't remember if Hades personally takes her back that would have been cool kitties was behind her to symbolize that she's going back to the underworld but it worked. I also think it depends on the theaters how big they are how small they are they can do the trapdoor. The original Broadway cast production had it cool that they're going up and down in and out of the underworld I think it would have been cool if Hades was right there behind her as if telling Orpheus why ud look back u shouldn't have and Hades wrapping his arms around her or something like that or just behind her or his hand on her shoulder indicating she's going back down
I just saw this version and I thought it worked, I didn’t notice her going back into the door, she just was like already there and I saw it as going back to the underworld, like I didn’t see the train as an actual train, maybe that was because I went in blind and didn’t know much about it
Yeah I don't really like how panicked and OTT she is in the last verse. Hits harder when she's thoroughly convinced and has faith enough in Orpheus to take her home, rather than already being visibly distressed
I love how this Orpheus does more mixed belts that sound more like he’s in despair. It really works well, even if I definitely prefer Reeve’s falsetto
You can HEAR the audience's shock and sadness at the turn-
Gets me everytime....folks be devastated. I was in a crowd where a lady was like NO WAY loudly..

God this orpheus is incredible!!
I saw the tour in my town. There’s nothing like hearing the drums at the beginning in person
The cast is fine but wow does this moment not work without the lift (I know it’s a tour and they can’t instill a trap door in every city but still)

This is the only part I didn’t like about the tour
eurydice doing a little bit too much imo

So's Hermes tbh.
