    What a life saver this video was. My Mercury 9.9 HP suddenly started dying after running for a few seconds. I was pretty sure it was the carburetor but I was unsure about how to remove it, let alone how to dismantle it. Thank you.

    This video saved me probably $200 -$300 in repairs. After checking the spark and seeing that the fuel was getting to the carburetor, and still not starting, I followed these very detailed instructions. After reinstalling the carb, the motor started on the second pull.

    WOW, this video was a great help. I have a Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke. I put Tohatsu 9.8 into the search and it gave me this video along with some others but I have to say that the engine on this 2005 merc looks the same as my Tohatsu 9.8 as does the Carb. The instructions were great and helped out a lot. Thanks!

    I can confirm this procedure works on the 15-20 hp four stroke mercury late models as well. The inner mounting bolt for the carb is not accessible from the front like on this smaller motor, but you just have to remove the intake manifold/carb/air intake as one unit and it goes easy as pie.

    Thanks, great how to, will reinforce classicoutboards , wear eye protection when spraying, also having used petroleum products for many years without gloves, I eventually got skin reactions in later years, wear nitriles or latex, your partner will appreciate it too.

    Perfect, I have that exact engine and it seems that it's not getting enough fuel. I expect this will be just what it needs. Thanks for sharing

    I tried this (2007 9.9 Merc 4St). Very informative video. I wasn't to thrilled on the idea of tearing out my carb, but after seeing this done, I wasn't too worried. My motor would do only high rpm's but no idle or run at slow rpms; Carb was fairly clean but I did notice some debris in the tiny little pin holes that drop fuel/vapor into the chamber. I did remove the mixture plug cap; and clean that too, everything that would come off; I took it off. Only issue I had was putting the air intake gaskets back in; the 'choke' would very slightly touch them when pulling it out or in. Had to finally trim/file the gasket and plastic manifold part to allow full choke to work. It's late; and I haven't started it yet, dont want issues with neighbours, but Ill post more later. THanks for the video.

    Where is the idle mixture cap exactly? Needless to say this video was extremely helpful and my 2002 9.9hp runs better than ever. Great video.

    Great video! I would wear rubber gloves though because solvent isn't good for your skin to come in contact with and can lead to stuff like testicular cancer in young guys.. Had a friend this happened to, but he made it through it.

    @rasm146d Yes, the procedure is different for removing the carb and disassembling it, but the cleaning process is the same

    Hi, I have a problem with my carb as well, at 5:51, the small jet. does it have to be like you can see through and through at the hole? because mine I cannot. does it mean it is clogged? waiting for your fast reply. thanks.

    • @LevelUpperMan
      @LevelUpperMan Před 4 lety

      Baron, terribly sorry to reply so late, but my suggestion would be spray through it until you can see light through it. You may need to take a small wire and poke it a bit. My kids are in college now.

    after you sprayed the stuff all through the carb how long did you wait for it to dry? or did you just put it on right afterwards?

    I am right there with you Fritxmerde... Great video, definitely schooled me on cleaning my carb! I am having the exact issue motor fires up and as soon as my i give it fuel it bogs and dies. Did you get the answer to your problem last year?

    wear PVC rubber gloves when you spray that stuff because it's toxic and does absorb into your skin

  • @WillsGarage91
    @WillsGarage91 Před 13 lety

    also, make sure to wear eye protection when using carb cleaner, it doesn't feel good in your eyes
