  • Welcome to the AMD Ryzen 5800x review and unboxing. As Intel just released their 11th gen 10nm CPUs, AMD has already got their Ryzen 5000 series processors. They have been very hard to find with scalpers making it impossible to buy the higher models. The 5800x has recently come back into stock in the UK so here is my testing on it.
    I will be comparing it to the AMD Ryzen 3900XT as I was unable to get the 5900X but it should still be a good test to see how far they have come in terms of IPC and general performance.
    From AMD's website:
    When you have the world’s most advanced processor architecture2 for gamers and content creators, the possibilities are endless. Whether you are playing the latest games, designing the next skyscraper, or crunching data, you need a powerful processor that can handle it all-and more. Hands down, the AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series desktop processors set the bar for gamers and artists alike.
    The Fastest in the Game1
    Whether gaming or creating, AMD Ryzen™ processors offer ultimate performance.
    AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series processors power the next generation of demanding games, providing one of a kind immersive experiences and dominate any multithreaded task like 3D and video rendering3, and software compiling.
    The Latest Technologies
    AMD Ryzen™ processors have all the best features to keep you in the game.
    With great processing power comes the bleeding-edge technologies to support. All AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series processors come with a full suite of technologies designed to elevate your PC’s processing power including Precision Boost 2, Precision Boost Overdrive4 and PCIe® 4.0.
    Build with Confidence
    AMD Ryzen™ processors are easy to configure and easy to customize.
    Not only are these processors drop-in ready on 500 series motherboards with a simple BIOS update, you can easily tweak and tune your processor with Ryzen™ Master and AMD StoreMI.
    BIOS updates supporting the AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series desktop processors on AMD 400 Series chipsets are expected to be available starting January 2021; exact availability will vary by manufacturer and motherboard model.

    I am so conflicted w/ settling on the 5800x rn, b/c I saved up for a 5900x + AIO. Your info is really good & helps put into perspective how much Zen 3 improved over Zen 2.
    The new 8 core's rendering speeds almost matching the last gen's 12 core is insanely good. Coming from a 1700x, any of these chips will be a huge positive jump -- I just wish the 5900x was in stock to make my buying decision so much easier. Trying so hard to be patient & just wait.

      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety

      Don't feel bad, many others are in the same boat. I settled for the 5800x but really I don't think I missed much. Again if you do stuff that uses all 12 cores then maybe wait for the 5900x but really few people are in that camp.

      @@AliensStoleMyCow I'd like to play, stream & record my Apex Legends gameplay at the same time. Then edit/render content afterwards. With that type of workload, assuming the 5900x stays out of stock, would you still recommend the 5800x over a 3900x or even used 3950x? My budget is pretty tight at $600 for a cpu, & like $120ish for a cooler (probably going for EK basic 360 or Be Quiet's Pure Loop).

      @@AnimalTheOtaku I do all of those things and I've tried both the 3900x and 5800x. The 5800x gives higher fps on games but the 3900x renders slightly faster. Overall I think the 5800x is the better choice if the 5900x is not available.

    Brilliant review, i just bought a 5800X and will cool it with my EK Quantum Velocity block + 280mm Rad reservoir an Pump combo. This should get the best out of my RX 6800 XT.

      Cool name btw. I see you went AMD all the way! Your water cooling set up will be more than enough to cool it. I'm using a 50mm cooler and it hits 85 degrees max.

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety

      Temps are the same as the 3900XT in my testing. 70s for prime 95 blend and gaming, around 80 for AVX with the IS-60 cooler. You'll have much lower temps with extreme air/ AIO

    Hey I just subbed and a little still stuck on what ram for my build
    My cpu is 5800x
    And mobo is gigabyte b550i itx
    The board spec says ddr4 3200 but does that mean it’ll do 3600 to? Moneys not to much of an issue and here is aus can get 3600 kits same price roughly as 3200.
    Thanks for help

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the sub. Go ahead and buy the 3600mhz kit if the price is similar. Most of the time manufacturers report slower speed ram to be safe. It doesn't mean the board doesn't support it, it just means they haven't fully tested it. Worst case it doesn't work and you can run the 3600mhz at 3200mhz and you're future proof. Win win at the same price.

      Hey just a quick one if you had to pick a 6900xt vs a 3080 for the same price and only played games like warzone and battlefield which would you pick?
      Can’t decide lol benchmarks say amd hands down b it nvidia got the features or are they a gimmick

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety

      @@cryptok9185 If you are only playing those games and the benchmarks say the AMD is faster, I would go with that. Personally I do a lot of mining and from that experience I found the Nvidia drivers to be a lot more stable and generally RTX cards are better across many algorithms. I understand that's not gaming but it does show that the Nvidia GPU's are more versatile across different workloads. My general advice is always go Nvidia if the price is right, but AMD is perfectly fine at a discount. Don't forget Nvidia has better resale values and are easier to sell.

    I ordered a 5800x PC and the 5800x is out of stock,I have to wait a month now,I could subtitute with 3900xt but I don't wanna lose single threaded performance,I wanna make beats and record music(mainly),game,content create ,what should I wait for 5800x or switch to 3900xt?

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety +1

      To be honest, unless you're heavily into games the single threaded performance is not that noticeable. The 5800x would be the best for you but if you can get the 3900xt for cheap or even a 3900x. Go for it. I tried all 3 processors and although I welcome the single threaded gain from the 5800x, it's not a night and day difference. If I didn't benchmark it, I wouldn't have known in daily use.

    i want to build a pc for modeling and animation and gaming which processor is best 3900xt or 5800x..?

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety +1

      3900XT is better for 3D modelling and rendering but 5800X is better for games. What's more important? If 3D work is your job and you make money from it, I would say prioritise income. If it's just a hobby and you don't mind a slightly slower rendering time, go with the 5800x. All about priorities.

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 2 lety

      As in you're just using it to stream your main PC? I would still go with the higher boost speeds of the 5800x. Cores are not really needed past the 8 anyway.

    I have a Ryzen 5800X and an RTX3080FE. I ordered 2x16 of Patriot viper steel at 3600 CL18. But my MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi wont let it go over 2666Mhz at CL20. Its a pain sending it back, what kind of a degraded performance percentages could I expect using that in a worst case scenario.

    • @AliensStoleMyCow
      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety

      @AliensStoleMyCow  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for your question. 5800x is better for you because most of the time clock speed is better. 3900xt gives you faster rendering times only slightly so not really worth it. So far I've not notice any bad points going from 12 cores to 8.
