- You are my sunshine! This is considered a Ukulele standard by many Ukulele players and it is an easy beginner song that you will probably hear in Ukulele groups, Ukulele summits, and Ukulele jams. I taught the song in the Key of C, which I believe is the most beginner. This means the chords are C, F and G. Jimmie wrote the song in the Key of F, which uses F, Bb and C, which has a barre chord and Johnny Cash plays the song in the key of A, which has A, D and E. Of the three keys it seemed like C was the best for teaching the beginners, but feel free to change the key to match your voice or your favorite recording of the song. This song is mean to give you the base and show you how to space the harmony, the melody and learning how to sing it is going to be up to you!

We got a nice O'hana ukulele for my six year old. He has been wanting one. He tried strumming along to the song, but of course it wasn't close lol he was very proud still, and felt like he nailed it! we are hoping he keeps practicing and will show him more videos to keep him encouraged. Thank you for the videos he will hopefully be able to learn to someday!
First off, how great is that you are encouraging his musical curiosity! I love the fact that you are feeding those flames. It is so great to see how music can bring families together. I also love to hear the sense of accomplishment your little boy got from playing along. What kind of music does he like? If you can give me a feel for his taste/personality I will link as many beginner songs as I can right here because I would love to be able to do that, and sometime soon send him some intermediate stuff as well! Music is so good for so many reasons, thank you for giving that gift to your child.

Anyway, I give up pretty easy but my ukelele looks very nice as wall decoration haha :)

I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to discover easy ukulele songs for beginners try Nadazma Ultra Uke Helper (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
If anyone is interested in playing the uke the greatest results that i've ever had was by using the Arthurs Uke Blog (i found it on google) definately the most useful system that I have ever tried.
I'm learning ukulele at school! I loved this video and hopefully I can go in tomorrow with little bit of a song up my sleeve. Again, wonderful video, I sang along the whole time!
That is excellent to hear and it is very cool that you are learning in school. A lot of states have drastically cut funding for school programs over the years, one of the biggest tragedies that I can think of! Are you obligated to learn or is it by choice?

Aaaah.... I'm just learning to play and I get so frustrated so easily. I can't get this muted strum thing cos I strum with my thumb. You make it look so easy. 😣
Leo R It is a bugger man, but it comes with time. It is such a part of my playing that it has become second nature, but the first step is going to be learning how to strum with that index finger. It will be next to impossible with the thumb. You can play the song without the mute though while you are learning it.

I try to strum with my pointer finger and my finger gets caught in my strings since they are like plastic strings, hurts a lot

Hahaha, Cheri my friend be careful what you wish for with my singing! I will keep that in mind for future lessons. Try to listen and play along with the Jimmie Davis version and you should catch on to it pretty quick. On of the keys to singing and playing at the same time is to find the key words that land on the changes. So for example if Happy lands on an F you should play through the rhythm and sing the key words. Does that make any sense? Also if you are familiar with the song you should be able to hear the melody in the rhythm. Hope that all helps! If you have anymore questions that I can help you with let me know.

I would focus on getting those transitions down as smooth as possible first and than you can try to put the melody to it but first you want to be able to get those changes down so tight you can do them with your eyes closed. I was very new to the idea of teaching on youtube, I learn later to go slower.
