Wow, great instructions on the chords. Then your VOICE blew me away! I used to sing this song with my Physical Therapy patients. We would SING it as we practiced walking! As I looked into the song, I saw how DARK it was, so I just sang the HAPPY parts! Jimmie Davis also has a Christian version: Christ is my Sunshine, My only Sunshine, He makes me happy, Both night and day....etc. Thank you!

Not yet mastered the strumming pattern i think it is too much for my brain to handle but I'm working on getting it for now its just the downward strums that are working for me I got the chords pretty quickly due to your excellent teaching methods!

Well done! As with many “old time” songs, it is realistic. The tinge of sadness just makes it more poignant. If you were to sing it with self-indulgent “sadness,” it would be maudlin. I believe this is why this song is so famous and treasured. Shot through with the indomitable human spirit!

A great tutorial! Thank you. And your voice is exceptional. I expect you've been trained. As to the song, I have not paid attention to all the lyrics until I heard you sing it. I love country and country music, with some exceptions, is real life and real life is full of loss and pain mixed with a little love and fun. I like the lyrics. I think Johnny Cash did the song way back when. I've heard it played in different cords and not sure what I should play it in. One person said to not start singing until a certain point. I can't sing much anymore so I don't usually sing anyway. But I noticed when I put my words to the chords it didn't sound right. Probably my voice. Anyway, thank you. I subscribed to your channel and hope to hear a lot more from you.
Thanks for putting this video up. I would suggest that when you get to actually playing the song to slow it down. The transitions aren't too hard but at that speed if you don't hit it it is really hard to catch back up.

It’s a ukulele lei I made. I just strung together some flowers and used it to decorate the head stock. :)

Hi. You can tune the ukulele with a electric tuner or an app or I have a video in my ukulele basics videos that will teach you and haves A tuner. For apps I use GuitarTuna. It used to be free but I think to use the ukulele tuner you have to buys something now. For electric tuners, any one will do fine, but Snark is my favorite.

On the G it doesn't look like you are playing the entire island strum ... am I wrong ? I ask cause I'm trying to follow you ( very nice voice anyway !)
Can I use another strumming pattern? I've learned a different one and I just don't like the island strum so can I or will it just make it all weird

I’m new to ukulele and I’m playing in the talent show at the end of next week so I decided to play this song, I think I’m doing ok but my fingers really hurt 😢

@@becrimecommitgay518 Being super secure on your song! While nerves can obviously comes from anxiety, if you know your song, memorized--inside and out--you will feel better about it. There is also no shame in using a lead sheet with your performance!

So is this 3 beats or 4 to the measure. 4 is not working for me.
i find strumming with my fingers quite difficult. is it alright to use a pick instead or would that make the sound a little more harsh?
You can use a pick but I would try strumming with your thumb to start and eventually move to your pointer finger. It’s all about building strength over time!

How to adjust the tunes?😅
Im a beginner and I'm lost of what the stumming pattern is once to transition to G... I can't get it to sound right. It does not sound like your doing the full

I am. My ups are just a bit delicate so it doesn’t over power anything. If you are having issue with transitioning to G that probably means it’s more of a G issue than strumming. Practice going from the G to the other chords isolated first. Once that is easy and you can play quickly using. A metronome, then come back to the song.
