I stumbled upon this song in a Steven Wilson, Marillion mix about a month ago... I bought the best off straight away, with a promise of getting the rest. Seeing this response, well, I know that wasn't in your mind when posting, but you sold a full back catalog today... And this typed with tears in my eyes again, and amazing song, a beautiful reaction. Remembering all we have loved and lost and lost and loved.

Danny, I've been a fan for a number of years. Last year a really good friend died at age 42, leaving behind a wife and two daughters ages 6 & 2. It struck me recently how do many of the words in this piece fit their situation, how they've had to say goodbye and how they'll have to cope without him, but mostly that he's always going to be with them almost out of sight as both of his children look so much like him. I sent her a link, she listened, she cried, but thanked me for such a beautiful piece of music. And she's right, it is stunning and will now forever move me to tears. Keep writing DC.

IMO, this is THE most emotional album I've ever listened. Some songs can can be hard, but at the end, it's always cathartic to listen to them. Running alone at night while listening to this album is quite an experience. I've done it many times, and I ALWAYS end up crying. It's not sadness, not happiness, it's just emotionally overwhelming.
If you want to try more songs: these two are fantastic: "Lightning Song" (a lot happier), and "The Beginning and the End" (my favorite song in the entire album, though not as emotional as Untouchable)

Weather Systems is a fantastic album. Very emotional songs with great vocals and melodies. Anathema has moved from doom metal into some of the most beautiful music being made today. Vince’s vocals have come a long way from when he started. Lee Douglas has the voice of an angel. Many great albums and songs to explore from them.

Well... This song has been a forbidden song for me since I lost my dad... And watching your reaction now was exactly the first time I’ve listened to it since then. I guess I can tell (or not) what you guys are feeling... I, my mom and my sister were never ready to let dad go... even he asked so many times for us to get used to the idea of letting him... It was a very hard and complex context, he was really really sick but didn’t want help... Then he chose to end his life. Now we are getting use to the feeling of seeing him “out side at the edge of our sides”... It’s very strange because it’s been a year already and still it doesn’t seem he’s not here anymore. It is hard but we “have to let him go and find his way back home”... And we have to learn how to move on with all our plans, which used to be his to..
So now... I’m locking in this song once again... But deep inside we know we can’t help ourselves

I lost my dog Milo in December and i listened to this album and We're Here Because We're Here alot. He was 12 years old and i had to do the hardest thing i have ever done which was have him put to sleep. I hugged him until he passed away. Letting go and saying goodbye was really hard and i'm still very sad about it. He had lymphoma and it spread everywhere. Back in 2003 i had another dog named Grizzly that was hit by a car and died. It affected me really bad for years. My sister was 4 and at that time she was at a hospital in another state being treated for 3rd degree burns. I thought about suicide but music helped me heal through hard times. 2004 came around and Anathema released Natural Disaster which is another amazing album. It helped me alot at that time.
Update - I lost my beautiful baby princess my cat Mandi Lou on may 13th 2021. She was 19 years old. I'm having a hard time dealing with losing her because she was always with me. I don't have alot of friends or much of a social life but i had her to keep me company. Now she's gone and i'm just really sad.

Like you probably know by know, it isnt a band you want to sing in a car and the songs are rather powerfull emotionally. I would say its sadly beautifull but it definitely deserves a credit. Cheers from Poland!

A natural disaster - live is a must from Anathema IMO. But there are so many great songs from this band its hard to choose. Fun fact, they once were a Death-doom metal band :P It's always weird to go back and listen to that period haha.

So happy to hear you listening to Anathema. Another one of my favourite bands who I've been lucky enough to see live a fair few times now. Their music is so emotional and always manages to move me very deeply. Love it :)

These guys have a magical story, three brothers, drummer and the girl are bro and sis, they are from Liverpool and started as a metal band in the 90s,the brorhers mother past away and they went offvthe road for a while and came back like this, the singer and the drummer sat beside eachother the whole way threw school and apparently wrote some of the ideas they use today. Ive seen them many times and been reduced to tears everytime(quite embarrassing actually). Anyway i really love you guys, your so in love amd to watch you feeling this music the way i do, is overwhelming. Keep up the videos and the love!! Love you. From your new subscriber x

Beautiful stuff guys. Anathema have that magical ability to bring out the most emotionally draining music that paradoxically, can be totally life affirming at the same time. Like others have said, try the live version with the Plovdiv Orchestra in Bulgaria. Incredible concert. Take care guys

A truly touching reaction to one of Anathemas classic tracks. I really felt for you during the song and for your terrible loss. Thank you once again for shining the light on another wonderful prog band. Keep up the fantastic work.

For whatever reason I started binging some reaction videos to artists that I love and after 5 or 6 I ended up here. First time on the channel so the first time hearing of your unfortunate loss. I could tell by the way you two spoke in the beginning and reacted throughout the song that there would be tears. I just didn't expect that they would also be falling from my eyes as well. Anathema is one of my favorite bands and Weather Systems is one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm really glad you two were able to experience this song, as emotionally overwhelming as it may have been. I'll stick around and check out some more videos now.
    Cheers!

I've already seen this reaction but just had to revisit this.
In many of there songs they have what I call the wait for it moment. No other band that I can think of can do it better. Listening to there songs and just having that feeling that something big is coming.

I love that you guys found this. It feels like it is a shout over the chasm of death to the afterlife to people we love that have passed, except this is loud enough to be heard on the other side! This is one of those rare songs that just pulls emotions from the deepest part of my soul. I remember showing my fiance (now my wife) this when I bought it and getting choked up when I tried to talk about what I loved about it. When I verbalize my thoughts about this track it happens every time. I've never heard acoustic guitar in prog like that either, it's really an incredible song on so many levels. But the emotional punch it brings is like no other song I've ever heard.

I'm glad you've found this amazing band. Back in the '90s they were one of a group of British heavy, even doom metal bands. Then in 1998 they released the album Alternative 4, which contained the track Fragile Dreams, with this lyric...
    Today I introduced myself,
    To my own feelings,
In silent agony, after all these years,
They spoke to me... after all these years
...and countless metal fans followed them on that journey. They still rock when they want to, but the emotional weight of their songs is peerless. They followed that with the Judgement album. The two Cavanagh brothers, Danny and Vincent, wrote One Last Goodbye about the death of their mother. Anyone who's ever lost a loved one, or split up with them, myself included, it reduces me to tears every time I hear it, though in a comforting "someone else understands how this feels" kind of way. Your reaction video said it all. I'm glad life brought you together and thank you for sharing your sincere feelings with the world. All the best to you both.

Anathema is a band made up of two sets of siblings, plus another person. Three brothers are Vincent (main vocal, guitar), Danny (vocals, guitars, piano), and Jamie (bass) Cavanagh. Lee (female vocals) and John (drums, keyboars) Douglas. Then, there's Daniel Cardoso (drums). At least, I think this was the lineup at the time.
Vincent started by just playing guitar. He didn't think he was good enough to sing, but his brother Danny encouraged him and he stepped up when their original signer left.
They are more alternative progressive pop rock now. They were once gothic metal and death/doom metal.
Their newer album, Distant Satellites, is also very good, along with We're Here Because We're Here.
We're Here Because We're Here was mixed by Steven Wilson and that mixing style seemed to continue to this album.

I just can't belive you guys reacted to Anathema, wow, I feel so not alone anymore hahaha, I remember around 2007 I got in touch with Riverside andAnathema as a follow from my years of Porcupine Tree. No one knew these bands, all saying music was dead, man did I ever tried to make this music be enjoyed and now these days, so many people listen. Ho by the way, you gotta be the sweetest couple just after my girlfriend and me hahhah
