- The island of Madagascar has for millions of years, housed an incredibly biodiverse ecosystem that today is one of the most remarkable on earth. This was no different in the Cretaceous, where one particularly bizarre theropod genus roamed. This was Majungasaurus, the one-horned ruler of Madagascar. I hope you enjoy!

Abelisaurids are a charming bunch, they're the dinosaur version of a pittbull
Essentially! A remarkable group of animals.
Couldn’t say it better myself!
was literally thinking the same thing before looking in comments.
As someone who has 3 Staffordshire/American Pitbull mixes I'm down for this comparison
@@TensaWolf 3 dino bodyguards

Glad that I could fill in when there wasn't much else around! :)

Majungasourus McNuggets,
I’m love’n it!
The moment I saw the Majungasaurus on BBC’s Dinosaur Planet, I fell in love. Ever since then, this amazing creature has never left my mind.
This is my introduction to this dinosaur too, and it is my favourite.
It's also well known on the game know as Jurassic World The Game
They are very cool animals!
I've got (or had I lost it) a disc of all the "episodes?" Idk what you'd call them but I got the majung, spino, microraptor species that I forgot the name of, all that jazz!
There is also a episode on Jurassic Fight Club about these dinosaurs. Very interesting show. If you haven't seen the show, you should check it out.
Majungasaurus or as I like to call it the "haha it looks like what kids think a dinosaur looks liOHMYGODWHYISITSOFAST"

"...looking like an animal version of a sausage" Now I know what my dog's ancestors were
That was the realest looking dinosaur I ever saw in a thumbnail
Madagascar sure was and is an amazing place for animals. 🐾
I just learnt a whole lot of stuff, more then i would from school in 13 minutes, damn, kudos to you dude!
No problem, glad you learned some new things. Always seek to make these videos entertaining and educative as I can.
Henry, I love you... Someone finally made a video about my favourite dinosaur! I'm so happy! This dinosaur is not nearly shown enough in media.
The majungasuarus is definenlty one of the most unique theropods that walked the earth
Most definitely!
Yeah cuz it’s the worst carnivore in Jurassic world the game
@@cheeseycheesey3216 it's not the worst it's a common. Plus it's also the first carnivore you get and has a hybrid of Alangasaurus.
@Nikolas Lounies the game
i like how ppl are learning about majungasaurus but someone brings up jw the game wtf lmao
I have seen a Rajasaurus narmadensis skull replica in the Indian Museum in Calcutta. This cousin of the Majungasaurus may have looked and behaved a lot like this. The Rajasaurus also had small arms and sturdy leg muscles and a short, deep skull which was crested: a conical bony projection that gave the Rajasaurus a regal appearance, as though it were wearing a crown. It's name is apt: It truly was THE KING OF THE NARMADA.
They were indeed very cool animals. :)
I kinda like how that Majungasaurus thumbnail looks like an iguana!
The image was actually modelled after a Marine Iguana, and altered to resemble this animal. :)
My wife is from Majunga :) . One day, on the way to a local village which is located about 15km from the site where they found the first “Majungasaurus”, I found a weird tibia shaped stone on the road and was thinking about bringing that in Amerca BUT my wife made fun of me suggesting that it might just be a regular white stone. I hope I didn’t toss a treasure away because it was quite heavy like a fossilized trunk. There are a lot of fossilized tree trunk there guys, especially in the west of Madagascar
Very cool! Always like to hear these stories.
Ah yes the living sausage dinosaur 😅
Yeah dude. The closest living relative is the modern dachshund
A really strange animal indeed!
It's a dachshund with a bulldog head that's been crossed with a unicorn. And we love it for its uniqueness.

I like the thumbnail picture even though studies show that many dinosaurs may have actually been birds I like how you actually made it look like today’s reptiles instead of throwing scales on it like everyone else
We have a lot of Madagascar plant life right here, and many rock fragments of these as drawn, so thank you for the riveting information, as it's connecting areas that touch in active taurid earth shape shifting!
Quality content very informative ... a Theropod vid series will be awesome

Majungasaurus
My brain: *big chungus*
Majungasaurus is my another favorite dinosaur
That majungasaurus in the thumbnail is brutally accurate
I know it's not his official name anymore, but sometimes I still refer to this guy as Majungatholus.
Kevin Norwood your a real one for knowing dinosaurs old names I’m a dinosaur enthusiast so I love memorizing facts about them
Majungasaurus don't care. Even HE don't call himself Majungasaurus. That's his white man slave name.
Jon Dunmore ?
I just recently watched a documentary one this guy and they called him a majungatholus. I was pretty confused for a second as I thought the video was newer. Apparently not haha.
Sigh I love being a dinosaur loving nerd anyway very interesting looking dinosaur never heard of this one definitely going to do research on this particular Dino for sure thanks for making a video on this Dino keep up the good work

a sausage has never been so terrifying
Majungasaurus: Im a cannibal
T-rex: hold my beer
Have you done a video (or if not) could you do a video about Ceratosaurus?
Majungasaurus: *exists*
Another Majungasaurus: you know the rules, and so do i... SAY GOODBYE
8:50 he is on extreme pain alright. lol and the dog on the back is like "not cool bruh, not cool"
That land mass intrigues the hell out of me for some reason. For quite awhile. Love Dinosaur stuff though.
One fun fact about paleontology is that most dinosaurs that are found in fragments are sometimes pinned onto existing dinos that match its build the most notable example being spinosaurus egypticus, because its believed its body looked like barionyx and because no full skeleton has been uncovered the spinosuarus we see in Jurassic park 3 is actually just a stretched out barionyx
I found this video very interesting.
Glad you think so!
Great video, cheers. On a side note perhaps they did do face biting but they had much thicker and more armoured skin on the face than on tyrannosaurs and thus damage to bone is much much less common?
That registered as “Marijuana-saurus” in my mind.
I love the animals that have evolved there, personally my favourite are the giant lemurs or the dwarf hippos
What’s your favourite?
The comet moth! It's sooo pretty!
Fossas
Phelsumas, aka day gecko's, are pretty sick in my opinion! Love their colours and active life style!
Pachylemur and all the chameleons there
Majungasaurus: I eat anything no matter how big.
2nd Majungasaurus: Hi cousin, how's it going today.
Majungasaurus: For me great, for you not so great.
BITE
aww the little arm
Majungasaurus is definitely my favorite theropod dinosaur
The more I look at the tiny arms of a lot of carnivores, the more I realise that while it looks stupid, with feathers, it actually makes a lot more sense.
Ever seen birds without feathers? A lot of the flightless ones have stupidly tiny arms.
They are indeed quite small! Many of them you can even see the claws on their remaining fingers. Majungasaurus and other abelisaurids however, have as of yet no evidence of feathers.
... and barely any evidence of arms XD
I had to, that was right there.
can u make more video's about the abeliosaur family like about carnotaurus, Ekrixinatosaurus, Skorpiovenator and Pycnonemosaurus just to name a fiew
Majungasaures is probably one of my favourite dinosaurs
The horn size probably just showed maturity. That’s very common.
McChungasaurus is gonna be my new game tag
Ive seen people say that there was no way in hell abelisaurids could hunt sauropods
It probably could, holding onto and strangling it's prey with a bite similarly to a tiger
Considering the gap between animals like Buffalo and lions, the likelihood that Majungasaurus was able to take down sauropods like Rapetosaurus isn't too far of a reach in the slightest.
@@HenrythePaleoGuy I agree, and I'd guess if it were to go after a subadult or adult it'd probably have no option except to go for the neck given the size difference. I think it'd be most akin to a tiger hunting water buffalo, due to the size difference and probably solitary lifestyle
@@HenrythePaleoGuy I'm a bit sceptical of the idea that Majungasaurus could and actively hunted full-grown sauropods, but I do find it possible that they preyed on juveniles or 'sub-adult' ones. A younger sauropod could have been small enough to allow a Majungasaurus to wrap its jaws around its prey and pin it and yet strong enough to require Majungasaurus to have adaptations in its jaws against torsion
Fully-grown Rapetosaurus wouldn't have been impossible to hunt, but like all predators, Majungasaurus would have gone after juvenile or weakened animals as you suggest more often than fully grown animals.
My favourite Abelisaurid ❤️
When people say that the Unicron never existed I point them to this dino. XD
Bryce Collins unicorn are rhinos..... rhinosceros unicornis it’s latin name
I was all in until he said that the broken foot bone could have been from a rival stepping on it. Or maybe it just took a bad step off a ledge? I'm probably overthinking it, after all, it is purely conjecture. Good day to all! Thanks for the great content!
Oooh make more Dino vids!❤️
For a second the I thought you said . Chunga saurus
sooo, cannibal unicorn? sounds great
Pretty much!
1:16 The Majungasaurus was not the only one to feature impressive cranial ornamentation. 😏
Great video but I got 2 questions for you
1. Is it true that the Abelisaurs are a group of Ceratosaurs?
2. Is it also true that Abelisaurs thrived until the end of the Cretaceous?
1. Yes 2. Absolutely, majungasaurus thrived until the extinction event
Now we just need to find his long lost friend, the "Machungusaurus"
I almost forgot how cool Majungasaurus was.
There are very cool animals indeed. :)
Never heard of that dino before JP world evolution myself.
What's kinda sad is that there is no mention of this awesome dinosaur in Majunga and people there don't seem to know about it.
(5:29)
Carnotaurus: Hmm, first time?
I’m getting Jurassic world the game vibes from this
So this is what truffles turns into if she plays mahjongg
I was just thinking of "majungatholus" the other day. I guess that ages me!
I also used the term "thecodonts" for too long o_o
I call shenanigans on those arm structures. Those look like wing mounts and pectoral plates. I dont think this could fly but it would have been able to glide, possibly even leaping from small outcrops onto prey or otherwise into combat. Even though they wouldnt have had much surface area to weight ratio their massive legs would cushion them well, being nearly half the creatures weight and all. Also, reverse cant legs absorb shock better and allow for a quicker transition to forward locomotion. Also, damn thing couldve kicked on the way down, negating the need for arm claws entirely when paired with the mouth swords. Intimidation factor wouldve been through the roof too. Hell, if i could hunt like that and was that big i might try to drop stones or dirt on prey from a ledge before leaping down to strike. Covering prey in dirt will slow them down and further cushion a hard combat landing. I think we're overlooking something here, thats all
