- I decided the best way to use the area beneath the sink in my kitchen was to make two large drawers. The lower one is deep enough to store spray bottles and cleanser bottle upright, along with paper towel rolls. The upper drawer is around 9" deep and will hold a variety of items.
This is a great way to efficiently utilize a cabinet that is traditionally a catch-all for seldom used items and often poorly organized.

I do not know how I missed this video last year. I really, really want drawers just like that under my kitchen sink.
Almost every time I watch your videos, regardless of their length, I am kind of sad when they come to an end. Informative and entertaining at the same time.. I really enjoy and use lots of your tips. Thanks
Thanks :)
Same here.
P I I
It's bittersweet for me because he always puts a nice little music clip at the end =)
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection czcams.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
That looks really good. I like that the drawers pull all the way out, easier to get the stuff out of them.
What a brilliant idea!!! Under sink space is always so underutilized. What is so ironic is that you have been doing this work for decades with a lifetime of ideas, techniques, shortcuts and real world experience willing to share and pass on and yet you get such a minimal amount of views. Yet some 26 year old pretty girl with short shorts and a skimpy top will get sometimes millions showing how to nail some pieces of pine togethed.
Thanks for the tips!
Great tip on using framing square as a spacer for the drawer slide.
I have never thought of drawers under the sink, but I like it.
I like the idea of the deep, basin type drawers!
Thanks for all your great videos John! Always fun and interesting to watch! Keep on the good work!
This is such a good idea I'm doing this to my kitchen thanks John.
I enjoy your house projects the most. Informative and they inspire me to continue working. Thank you for sharing!
Love the way that you cut the edge banding, that is how i cut boards also, picked that up from "the master woodwork" love the progress!
Oh, man! I would KILL to have something like that under my kitchen sink! Your wife is one lucky lady!
Nice use of space. Looking forward to seeing what the finished front will look like!! 😃
Great work John, I love these videos they give me great ideas for my own projects.
Drawers under the sink is practical and a great use of space!
O M G ! 😍😍 We're in the process of putting in new sink...cabinets and countertops. What a great idea!
I like your home videos a lot. Super relaxing to watch and inspire me a lot. Thank you.
Nicely done John! 👍👊
I'm buying it! Thanks for showing me this great tool!
At 2:45, I like your holder you made to hold the plywood vertical.
Thanks for taking the time to post this vid.
love the drawer pulls
I think I see this job in my future. I have a dishwasher in one unit under the sink but small drawers in the other half would sure be a better solution than shelves full of stuff you can't get at without a whole excavation.
Slick trick to cut in half way and then flipping the stock around and finish the cut. Super neat! Safety cops prob love that!
Thanks. Very inspiring. I enjoyed watching it
usually tile countertops don't look good, but WOW you did an awesome job of those counters! I love pullout drawers in kitchens, and you're going all out, love it. However, I wouldn't recommend storing food under the kitchen just because mold sometimes collects under sinks. Great videos John!
The Joga-John and his tablesaw-workbench. Amusement pur.
What a great idea! Thanks
5 thumbs up! Got the same problem in my shop drawer now I know WHY! Thanks Man. You're the best (I know of :P)
No wasted space under your sink , Awesomeness.
I love these drawers. Wish I had drawers under my sink.
Smart little helper you got you’re self.
You would be welcome in my pitiful shop any day John. Enjoy your videos. Hello from Nova Scotia.
John.... Thanks for another great video! I’m right in the middle of my kitchen rebuild and have been trying to figure out what to do under the sink. Great solution! I am gonna steal your drawer idea. I just found out we in the states can’t by the LePage poly you use... I normally use Tightbond exterior glue for joints and banding... (and my shop IS heated!)
Made by Loctite in the US - look for PL Premium.
Good work.
I like the idea of drawers under the sink.
I am building a new kitchen for my wife and she insists there be no cupboards under the bench top, just drawers.
With mine I built a return (or cut-out, not sure what the correct term would be) into the back of the drawer to allow for the waste pipe and take advantage of the full front to back space. It doesn't look like your setup would allow that, or perhaps not worth the effort for a small gain.
Thank you for posting videos, without the information you have presented (over all your videos) I would never have attempted my project.
Never seen drawers under the sink but looks so much more usable than just a cabinet.
Nice idea! and Music *
What a brilliant idea! Space under a sink cabinet is always under utilized. Will top space be a false front?
Thanks for the idea
I'm still using those bar clamps. Plan to make more (plan a lot of things . . .)
Bottom mounted slides are more forgiving in installation. They permit 6-way adjustment. A bit more expensive but worth the extra IMO.
Gosh I love your everything 👍
I've learned so much from your videos, John -- thank you. One question: I noticed you used 1/2-inch ply for these boxes -- is there a general rule you apply for the thickness of the material you use for drawer boxes? My default is 3/4 inch, but that's only because I see so many YT makers use it and I'm beginning to think I should be more flexible in my thinking. I like the sturdiness of 3/4 but sometimes it feels unnecessarily heavy for what I need. Thanks again.
Thanks
Now there is the solution for my sink remodel when I start on the kitchen
Where did you source your drawer pulls? They have a manly rustic quality that speaks to me!
cannot tell if you are trolling or serious or just having fun
Oh, let's say a little from all three options there
Chad Martin i prefer a bent nail meself instead of dem nu-fangled "spiralnails" 😏
Bravo monsieur beau travaille jean de Belgique
Wood wine boxes fit perfectly on a sliding platform under sinks and in cabinets. They cost maybe $5 + the sliders.
Those are big drawers!!!
Would have been nice to see your plumbing under there behind those drawers. Did you have to make any accomodations there? The drawers appeared to be a pretty good depth, usually there would be complications I would think.
Good videos, do you find the construction adhesive better then the old traditional wood glue?
23 Ga. pin nailer is on my buying list... given that I'm going to be doing a wall of booksheves soon I think its going to be my next buy. Has anyone tried the Grex models?
- Eddy
I've used the model P635 for almost 10 years now as a cabinet builder and a trim carpenter and have only had 1 jam in all that time and that was because there were still a couple of longer pins left in the magazine that I didn't see ; an outstanding pin nailer
The plywood support thingy you made matches your channel logo..yes I'm brilliantly observant, or is it perceptive ? ;-)
Out of curiosity, why do you use construction adhesive vs wood glue in certain applications?
John, did you add more screws to the slides or is 2 each sufficient to hold all the weight of the full drawers? Thanks.
Sweet!, 👍👍👍😎🇨🇱
Cutting that 4x8 sheet was manly!
Hi John, i saw you so often using PU-Adhesive to glue the wood. I found here only two components PU-Adhesive? Is this also OK? Do you made any experience with this type of PU Glue? Greetings from Germany.
In a cabinet next to my sink, I had to cut out a mullion so that I could do a full-width drawer for pots and pans. I'm not sure i trust my cabinets enough to cut the mullion out from the cabinet under the sink. Would love to have huge drawers, though...
Is that you closing with guitar licks in the end?
One question; how is the plumber is to get to the underside of the sink to fix any plumbing problems? I think a one drawer system would be a better system.
How are you going to open bottom drawer? Is it going to have knobs?
Why polyurethane, but not wood glue? Thanks for sharing!
Keeping your pine sol next to your potatoes for that nice clean taste.
What grade plywood are you using for these drawers?
what do you plan to face the drawers with?
Under my double sink, there is a 1 hp ultra silent garbage disposal (stainless steel), so there is not much room for drawers... but otherwise, that's a great idea!
He’s got a Makita... I like him.
What is the thickness of the plywood? Thanks
The height of these drawers are not the same as the drawers on the left or those on the right. Are you going to give the sink section one big front from top to bottom attached to the bottom drawer so you don't notice these different sizes?
I'm not anal retentive enough to be concerned with different drawer sizes.
It shows...
Bob Parlevliet really?! Add a cover up or door, didnt your mama ever tell you nothing nice to say, dont say anything!RUDE BOY. Dont watch then, this man is spending time for free! Even if he gets sumthing to support from sum, to teach!(hell half the teachers nowdays dont teach and are paid) Ya dont get alot of free instruction nowdays.
Hey John, just out of curiosity: What is the brand of that kitchen sink?
Blanco
Your water based poly looks a little gelatinous. Stored out in the shop and it's cold? Or was that just a trick of the light?
It is the bubbles on top reflecting the light, had to look pretty close to see it.
Do you ever wish you had a riding knife on your table saw? The way I understand it, they pretty much eliminate kick-back ...
czcams.com/video/pt0MVtwscyE/video.html
Thanks for the link and explanation you gave there. I remember when I had wood shop in high school in the seventies, we didn't have riding knives on our saws either, and I saw and experienced occasional kickback, and now using a newer saw with a riding knife, I never do. Thanks for makeing the great content you do...cheers
It is called a riving knife. Just for future reference.
Right you are, thanks for the correction....
snow??? I've seen that stuff on TV.
I wonder if a tray style drawer would have been a better use of space on the bottom drawer. You could have had a few more inches of usable real estate. Not that you needed it... Just throwing out an idea.
Drawer all the things. Bending over or getting on your knees to look in a cabinet sucks.
I could watch you all day fancy a job in england get my kins pad lukin like a house?
why not use a litter nicer birch plywood?
How many shares do you own in Brad nail companies... The amount you get through lol
They come in boxes of 10,000 for like $15us.
Why you no have garbage disposer cowboy?
I got rid of mine because I compost and the thing tended to leak and try to vibrate my old cabinet apart when I turned it on.
Not a door buck, but a drawer buck.
Use it for anything and just call it a "what-the-buck"
Or a buck-it-all.
CZcams "safety" nannies losing their minds over that plywood sheet rip...... :D
I would love to do something like this - but my garbage disposal eats even more room :( I may do some kind of vertical slide.
How do you still have all your fingers ..
HEY !! none of yer patented dovetails John !! What gives ??? 😏
I had those same ‘temporary’ drawer pulls on my kitchen many yrs ago... well, until my (now ex) wife sliced her knee open... yup, its true, can’t protect the stupid!!! Undersink drawers are now on my ‘honey-do’ list, but only after I re-plumb the drain lines installed by the lazy ass plumber .
Would have been easier to nail together the sides and bottom if you stood them on their end instead of trying to hold the one steady and align at the same time
Yes, clearly I've no idea what I'm doing.
I Build It Home wasn’t trying to troll just giving a tip!
Ah, those helpful "tips" - thanks.
I Build It Home clearly i should keep my comments to myself.. hope you don’t treat all of viewership like this..
Comments are always welcome, but let's get real here: you look like you are young enough to be my great grandson. I've probably been doing this competently for roughly twice as long as you have been alive.
Robertson Head Screws.... i see a lot of that with Canadian You Tubers.... Why is that??
DIY by Dino It's just kind of the Canadian standard screw, sort of like how Phillips is the default in the states.
Plus it's just better to work with than Philips in my opinion 😉
First One :D
how come you made the video 2 seconds shy of 10mins; would you not have made more adsense? actually, more curiously, how come PL premium don't sponsor you after this many years?
Storing food with cleaning chemicals seems like a bad idea.
