I have about 250,000mi on mine - roughly the same. I've done PCV Valve, VVT Solenoid, struts, sway bar links, and valve cover gaskets. Thing burns oil like crazy, but I love it. I take it up rocky, muddy mountain roads in Montana and it handles it like a champ.

Another two things to look out for... mine used to demolish brake pads and disks... And since a lot of people workhorse these vehicles, they tend to be neglected leading to rusty chassis and undersides...that's what eventually killed mine. They made the chassis out of tissue paper.

06 i-ctdi 250k miles. Had it since 2017. Last seller said there was a few more years left in it. Oh yes indeed sir! 2 months after buying it, subjected it to 1ft floodwaters and it survived (I reckon I was mere cms from the breather pipe).
Little weapon of a car. I sourced 4 winter tyres /rims for it (proper offroad Dunlop Grandtrek sj6) and this little bus walked through 1ft snow during the Beast from the East. I since treated it ro BFG Urban Terrain all around. Now wish Id gone KO2.
I had toyed with an X Trail or a Rav but the Honda was the safest diesel and the 05/06 awd is very effective with the right tyres. Of course, a Pajero Junior ia the biz. Or a Jimny.. But for all round load carrying, sleeping in, snow, towing, and in fairness, sporty driving, the i-ctdi is the biz.
I've actually rented mine out as an Air BnB during the housing crisis her and its also been used for a Labour Party conference (Ireland, mind) but, in fairness, there was only 7 of them.
Welded DMF about a year ago. New clutch kit. Havemt towed much since, clutch not as nice but you get used to it. Keep those fluids changed, give it plenty of Dipetane to drink and that will do pig.

    We’ve got one each … an ‘05 and ‘06 - both diesel.
45-50 mpg and we’ve done about 100,000 miles on each since we bought them secondhand 6 years ago.
    Problems?
Camshaft spindle snapped needing a rebuild at RH Motors (brilliant Honda specialist in Birkenhead)
    Rear brake callipers get sticky.
Clutch and flywheel changed in both cars.
AC has died on both too - no point / too expensive for new compressors to repair - and the weather isn’t that warm around these parts.
We’ve fitted upsized tyres on both with 235/60/16 all terrain/snow&mud treads.
Never have a problem getting stuck in the hills and forest tracks around here.
The rear cabin floor lifts out and makes a picnic table - so we carry 2 portable chairs and often pitch up somewhere in the country to enjoy a ‘mobile lunch’.
All in all - the Mk2 CRV is a brilliant vehicle and we expect to be keeping ours for a very long time.

Crv currently at the top of my list to buy soon, plenty of space for my camera gear, ULEZ complient (London), and does the picnic table come in the UK crv? That's just a great bonus😂. I usually replace my own oil changes, engine mounts, wishbone, LCA, disc and breaks ect so cans save money there. 🎉 Very informative video on a few issues but I'm sure I'm going to get that instead of a 2005 civic space ship. So in theory the higher powered type-S k24 should be an easy swap, I saw you might have to use a type-s ecu too. 😎 All the best💥💥💥

  • @mithikx
    @mithikx Před rokem +1

I got a barebones 2002 base model LX during the COVID lockdowns, cause new and used car market went bonkers then.
That particular model year and trim is quite austere and pretty much half plastic, even the exterior body panels. The 2WD one is basically a crosssover sized Honda Civic, or rather one that needs to go on a diet (the body roll and added weight is pretty noticeable compared to an actual Honda Civic of course).
I had some regular used car issues, namely fuel injectors, a sensor or 2 going bad and the driver side actuator lock but every issue has been absolutely dirt cheap to remedy, average service is probably $100 USD or less, even the tires are $130 each for a sumitomo group brand tire including balance and install. I can get new third-party front and rear bumper covers for $150 USD that's how cheap parts for these things can be. These model CR-Vs can go to 250,000 miles easy, they're bonafide cockroaches (they're everywhere and seem to never die) and parts are plenty for them.
When checking this model out, check the trunk (boot) floor under the carpet. The trunk floor should be a folding plastic table and under that is a second (unused) spare tire well.
Storage is weird, the "center console" sucks, stuff slides off of it, there's not storage cubby like on most other cars as it's just a fold down plastic tray and those cup holders are worthless (I recommend one of those bigger ones that fit on to the small ones that you can find on Amazon). There is also interestingly a slide out plastic bin under the passenger seat for storage.
Like the video said if you can get a spec'd out one in a later model year they're great.

I was just concerned that the studs might need changing in the hubs to accommodate alloys. Thanks for the offer though. Quite liked your Jazz videos as my wife's mk2 Punto at 20 years old is just becoming a rust casualty. Honda serviced cars get 12 months AA cover thar renews on each service. I think I paid around $800ish at the time. That was the last Honda I've owned since. Inexcusable to have something major fail at such low mileage when people buy them for reliability. The CRV has a timing chain - it's a metal chain and considered to be a lifetime part. There are cases of it going bad around 200k miles, but I wouldn't worry about it unless it is making weird noise. Just change your fluids. It probably eats oil for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Had to rebuild the ignition from the bits I could find around on the road.
