Call of Duty 2 was a launch title for the Xbox 360, and it launched on PC a month earlier. It went on to sell millions of copies, and earn over 80 game of the year awards. It refined the formula started in Call of Duty 1, but is the game still good today?
Call of Duty® 2 redefines the cinematic intensity and chaos of battle as seen through the eyes of ordinary soldiers fighting together in epic WWII conflicts. The sequel to 2003's Call of Duty, winner of over 80 Game of the Year awards, Call of Duty 2 offers more immense, more intense, more realistic battles than ever before, thanks to the stunning visuals of the new COD™2 engine.

CoD2 will forever be my favourite CoD. If they just slapped the MW2019 graphics on it, it would be ptsd inducing
Why does everyone forget the OG?
Being CoD with the United Offensive expansion 😎
HappyPenguinz 24/7 foy server was my jam.
Amen, the cod with tanks
As great as COD1 and UO are, they were just experimental titles. COD2 is what revolutionized COD and established all the great things we know in the later ones. At least campaign wise.
Multiplayer is still alive I played for 4 years great game cod UO :)
It's an iconic game and I still play it from time to time on my old 360. Like the initial COD motto you really get the feeling that you are following the footsteps of ordinary soldiers fighting in one of the world's worst wars. 'No one fights alone'.
I think you misunderstood the meaning of the game. (Here comes a large comment essay)
NPCs being "useless" isn't the game being bad, it's the game wanting YOU the player to play the game, and not the game play itself. NPCs being overpowered will steal kills from player which will make it less of a game and more of an automated process. Speaking of NPCs, I don't think many people realize it, but COD2 was the game that started the franchise's AI/NPC system that laid the foundation for the later campaigns to be the masterpieces they are. The versatility and dynamic systems this NPC logic has is extremely well done and fun for its time. People need to realize this and appreciate it, it's the reason this campaign is so much fun. It literally feels like belonging on a squad in the battlefield and slowly progressing and gaining ground by jumping from cover to cover and having your allies follow you, especially on harder difficulties. It's very well done for its time and not many people realize this.
While I do understand the complaint of the defense missions, and I do sometimes get a bit bored of them, but back in the day there weren't many gameplay gimmicks for a battlefield besides the ones we see in the game. Holding the line and defending against enemies is a standard WWII thing you would expect. It's not overdone, it's just three levels out of like 25 levels, so It's not a big deal. But yeah having such level in the final level of the Russian campaign, I agree that it wasn't the best choice. The open-ness of the silotown level was first introduced in the railyard level in the Russian campaign. At the end you have 3 or 4 enemy strongholds you need to clear, and it's the same open objective system. So we gotta give the Russian campaign a bit more credit. Yes it may seem a bit repetitive when it comes to the environment, yes it doesn't have various gameplay gimmicks the other two levels have, but it still have very nice gunfights to go through.
Also, about it having no story, it's a game. Story isn't a requirement. While it is great to have one, it doesn't necessarily need one. It's an arcade-y WW2 shooter with elements of WW2 frontline gameplay. It works very well for what it is, and a story isn't exactly missing there.
There are so many things that this campaign established and improved from the first experimental COD game, that it doesn't get enough credit. First of all it literally founded the new IW engine. COD1 ran on the Return To Castle Wolfenstein engine, idtech3 iirc. COD2 took that engine and revamped and repurposed it to fill the requirements for its versatility, and laid the foundation for the GREAT games we had after COD2. COD2 is a forgotten and underrated gem. It deserves more love that what it gets.
CoD 2 was my first experience of both CoD and WW2 lore in general and it'll always have a special place in my heart for that
COD 2 was and still is my fav. No stupid perks just point and shoot ! Played for ages on the multiplayer
COD 2 big red one is my favorite CoD of all time and maybe favorite video game of all time. Whole cast is voiced by the cast of band of brothers. It’s a classic
COD2 Big Red One and COD2 PC have nothing to do with eachother though. They're both great ofc.
@@Hamentsios10 yea I know
I agree.
I love how everyone has a helmet and then there's cpt. Pricr with his little beret and mustache soaking up bullets falling down for a moment and then getting back up 😂
CoD2 was great. Played on PC for years nonstop, with various clans and comnunities in clan wars and competitions. Interestingly, I have never enjoyed fps, or gaming in general for that matter, as much since.
I still have 4 friends now who I met playing cod2.
COD 2 2005 is a master piece. I like it very much. Best ww2 game!
This was Call of Duty, not this Fortnite Clone as First person Shooter.
I never played cod 2 until i got the platinum hits version on xbox around 2010. I grew up with cod 1 finest hour and cod 2 big red one on ps2.
I don't think the enemies are infinitely spawning in CoD2, i seem to remember the enemies running out if i stayed put for a bit, at least until you progress further on the map.
This was my very first COD and i feel like I've played the campaign hundreds of times. I also remember the modded lobbies. Lost days.
Don't forget about Erich Redman and his iconic German voicelines
Will you be reviewing United offensive?
CoD 2,CoD 4,CoD 5 and Black Ops 1,amazing single player and multiplayer games.
Activision destroyed CoD when they took away dedicated servers.
Con artists.
There is no cod 5.
@@Yellowpuffin WAW is often called COD5 because its the first mainline cod title to not have a number in its title, so its natural to call it cod5 sometimes. After that, calling anything with the number is absurd because it starts getting messy. I heard people call the newer CODs by their numbers, something like COD19 which is very weird.
D-Day was realistically loud, and soldiers yelling the guns aren’t here!
Yes, it was but I never played the SP lol. Only like 2000 hrs MP. Playing and winning the Clanbase (2006 Champ!) and ESL 5v5 S&D cups and finding scrims on IRC. Fun times. I can still remember some rounds of the Clanbase Summercup 2006 where I clutched 1v3 on Carentan for the cup win!
Back in the day - in a galaxy far far away back in the kid days of Generation od 94 this was the ultimate Band of Brothers - Saving Private Ryan moment - I remember watching saving private Ryan- and this came out after CoD 1 United Offensive this was the ultimate game for a long time .
The last generation of COD that was made as a game with an honest, decent, and carefully crafted single player campaign, is the Black Ops 2, and after that, I could barely recall anything. Maybe the WWII had hit me again.
Last Cod with recoil.Today only water hose laserguns .😢
There are still tons of servers up on PC full of players. Please come join us. We are still kicking!!
My fav too ^^ Childhood was amazing :)
I started with call of duty big red one on ps2 and call of duty finest hour on the o g Xbox with halo combat ev
Africa campaign is like olives. You don't like them as a kid. US campaign has a sharp decline in quality imo. Beach landing is ok, up to the crossroad part, but then it just gets reused in reverse and every subsequemnt mission is less interesting and more barren.
fk yeah it was
COD 4 had a story? Did you not play COD 3?
Restricting the game on console only killed COD3s reputation. A PC release is mandatory. And COD3 was an entirely different fork of game workflow than the mainline series COD2 introduced.
Yes!
Yes
Caen is pronounced KHAAAAAN!
It’s pronounced CARN in English predominantl
Yes it was and, before I even watch the video
I think you are incorrect. You highlight all the cheap and repetitive parts of the game but failed to recognize what this game was. This is the first money grab. All they did was improve the graphics and re-release the same game as COD original. There was almost nothing new or innovative. COD UO was a huge improvement over the original COD, but all the best parts were stripped out for this one. For example, COD UO introduced vehicles in the multiplayer game, but this had none. Also, they waited forever before they released the map editor so you could make your own maps, which I did. COD UO was the best. You hit on it here and there in your video, but I think you were being too kind. This game was a disappointment.
You got it all wrong. You fail to recognize the marvel that the single player campaign gameplay design is. You claim it did nothing new and it's a reskin of the previous game which sounds very ignorant when you purposefully ignore the massive engine tech leap from the previous game, and the insane AI improvement that makes it much more versatile and dynamic which laid the foundation for the greatness of the next game campings that followed. uo adding vehicles is because grey matter studio was involved who are very capable devs and knew what they were doing. IW just worked on a couple games at this point and cod2 being that great that early in their career is amazing. Also your points seem to be heavily focused on MP elements. We are talking campaign here no? The campaign did way more improvements than MP and maybe that's why it seemed like a reskin to you. But you can't ignore the massive engine leap and technical improvements like i mentioned before. You guys fail to see the game for what it is. It literally established and laid the foundation in terms of tech, and gameplay for the marvels we got after it.
@Hamentsios10 Well said. I'm playing through the campaign for the first time, and I have found it immensely enjoyable, even more so than the newer games. Loved rooftops by the way!
@@Arxinos112 many thanks
Call of Duty died years ago, in my opinion, yet people still buy and play the crap Microsoft will probably f##k it up anyway 😂
