If you've yet to hear about World War II Online and how they are developing Chokepoint along side of World War II Online 2.0, and would like some more information, check out this video: czcams.com/video/iGpF6EBbWAc/video.html
If you have any questions for the developers, feel free to drop 'em in the comments!
You can play for free through Steam or the WWII Online Launcher...
If you choose to support, either through a subscription or DLC purchase, do so through their standalone launcher www.wwiionline.com/ and not Steam where they take a 40% cut!

I remember when this game was out. It was a subscription based game. And when you logged in the first time you could have a trial period. If i remember correctly you would be a infantry person and could jump in and out of tanks and trucks ect as needed, but then they changed it to where you where stuck as one unit latter. Being that you where tied to that united, be it a tank. or aircraft, or Anti take gun, ect. I do hope to see this get improved and updated. Even thought i hardly ever played the game, i always enjoyed looking at the websight to see the front lines shift.

@@JesseJames38 Yeah, it was the only thing I didn't like about this game, is that you were stuck to that one unit whether it was a tank or a truck driver etc. and you couldn't get out, I started playing it back in 2005 and played it for a few good years, damn those were good times, huge para drop missions, 10-15 tank convoys going from one town to attack another, defending bigger cities like Eindhoven which literally took hours or even days to defend, that's how big battles there were on this game back in the day, it would be so damn cool to see this game on UE5, definitely one of the games that gives me nostalgia.

I had always been keen on finding a great FPS WWII game. I started with Battlefield 1942, I followed it to the Forgotten Hope and Forgotten Hope 2 community. I played Call of Duty and others. The in 2011, after several years of considering trying it, I joined WWII online. I never looked back.
The Graphics have never bothered me, save that faces look a bit odd. This game has never had instances, or flight zones where you can die if you fly outside and can't get back inside fast enough. This game has it all: Not just US and Brit Allies, but the French. The Axis side has Italian units. There are a huge number of units, with more being developed.
The game is not just run by the game company, CRS. It has dual Player run High Commands that work with CRS and the Player base when running campaigns. They handle the logistics and strategy of the warring forces.
The Campaigns are a major factor for me. For years I played matches for an hour at a time, but when they were done they were done and all that mattered was who had the high score. people didn't even care what side they played. But in WWII online, the battle you help fight today can affect the battles next week. In addition, the game has supply and players that want to bomb factories can do that and affect the entire campaign, the same with Navy.
Since 2001, this game has been bigger than any other WWII game, and unlike others, doesn't just give you WWII skins over a red versus blue game, but maintains Axis vs Allies. You won't have US vs Russia or the UK, or mixed teams. It remains at its heart a WWII game, Allies vs Axis, period.
Moving into Unreal 5 will give the rats just that much more capability to continue to make this game the best darned WWII game that's ever been made.
CRS also recognizes that some players don't want to commit to large scale war. Chokepoint will allow those players who want match play to have that experience, and it's a darned fine game.
If you want the best WWII experience you will ever have, don't wait to come try WWII Online. Just don't expect to master it in a day or a week. Mastering THIS game takes skill and experience.
And I'm not a game dev. I'm just a player who loves this game. S!

I don't know if this game will succeed or work as intended... This game used to be called Resistance & Liberation, a reimagining of the iconic WW2 mod for the Source Engine. Which is wildly different to what WWII Online offers. RNL is a small arms infantry combat sim, Airborne US vs Germany you could even talk to the other team and trick them with voice chat! That is what this game is, but the publishers bought them and changed the title to WWII Online: Chokepoint. I don't even know what they have added to the game... Mostly everything you see was created by the Indie Dev's who created the mod itself. The content looks identical to what the indie dev's were creating for it... I do want this to succeed for the sake of the mod, but working with Unreal Engine I've been introduced to the many bottlenecks and problems it offers, idk we'll have to see.

But the decision to port the game to another engine came way too late. Why didn't they think about that in their prime years? Also the subscription model it's way too expensive for a 20+ years old game and it's not attracting anyone or gathering them any support. People who still pay are old diehard fans. It really boils down to poor management skills.

Always loved getting a Squad Bombing raid take off from airfields in the UK, rendezvous with fighter support somewhere, fly literally for an hour or so to reach factories in Germany to drop bombs then try and get back safe to a friendly airfield ... real combined arms warfare capping towns, sitting out in a field somewhere with an 88 sniping tanks or with AAA and knocking down aircraft ... and sapping tanks ... and with a great bunch of blokes. We even used to meet up once a year to play over a long weekend.

This seems like a really awesome concept. Almost like Battlefield, but even more to scale.
I can imagine how difficult that would have been back then. I was into watching a fellow gamer play Counter Strike.
I played console up until that point, and that was why I built my first custom PC.
By the time the PC was done, I was playing Diable 2 and a different FPS.
To do this in Unreal would be a lot of work, and as the first time mentioned back then, resources.
Unreal would be able to take those graphics and physics to another level.
That isn't really my field, but I am aware that graphics are getting demanding, and unreal is the next step to making games that much more realistic.
I have only seen minor glimpses of the new Unreal. I think much smaller games will require resources that many PC's wont keep up with, so luckily, graphics settings.

When your moving to a whole new engine the blue print to the original is irrelevant because the orginal wasn't on any unreal engine so I can't understand the whole point of the blue print statement? My opinion is that he stated the blue print as ownership only from the original developers and that's all it can be. I did play the original and I found it difficult in running on any PC I had and plus the monthly subscription was very expensive for what it was on performance. I do hope they can succeed the developers but this will take many years in development to pull this off.

Not to be a pessimist but the story behind chokepoints early development and WW2 online as a whole doesn't have me completely convinced that they CAN accomplish this in their current state. They need a lot of help in manpower and funds from the looks of the last 5ish years. I still hop on WW2 Online, I have only the fondest memories of excellent command structure and communication, awesome events like D-Day and -1 air drops, and that impending feeling that time was always against the player because the war was a constant. I want to put my support towards WW2 Online, but Chokepoint is a whole other beast that I fear may take up too much of their time and efforts forcing them to postpone the MMO portion. Sorry for the rant, I wish them all the luck.

    • @corneredrats
      @corneredrats Před měsícem +3

Chokepoint has a new team working on it, separate from the efforts occurring on WWII Online 2.0. To that end, the work being done on Chokepoint will directly translate to 2.0 as well, in the form of an all-new, MODERN, infantry system. Don't fear innovation, embrace it as a necessary, bold, step.
