- In this video, I'm going to show you how to swap out a worn out track for a new(er) track on a 1993 Yamaha Phazer 2, but the procedure should be the same for pretty much any year Phazer, and similar to a lot of other snowmobiles from this era.
I'd never done this before but it wound up being pretty easy!
00:00 Intro
01:19 Remove Skid
02:26 Remove Exhaust
03:33 Chaincase Disassembly
05:10 Speedometer/Bearing Removal
05:36 Driveshaft Removal
06:23 Tunnel Inspection & Track Weighing
08:35 Setting Chaincase Tension
Exhaust Spring Hook Tool, Cheap, works decent!

Stay tuned for a lot more Phazer content, cheers boys!

Thanks for this video. I'm rebuilding my Phazer Skid right now, and want to replace ALL of the bearings in the drive train. That means taking the jack shaft and drivers out to check those bearings too. Cheers
Good luck! It's not so bad once you're in there!
It was easy to get them both out. The open chaincase bearings were VERY gritty. Glad I check them. @@ADDvanced
Great video.
Those Sarah bikini shots definitely work the YT algorithm in your favour dude haha.
As always, digging the content man.
Nice Targa ;)
Sort of. Check the build series, it's sort of a POS lol
Great video. Thanks! I enjoyed your sense of humor while doing a job not everyone would tackle. As a fellow non expert, it may not be the exact right way, but that’s the way we did it and it’s done.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm almost done going through this thing and going to try to get it running tonight! Stoked!
I am new to snowmobiles and bought a 95 Phazer 2. I greatly appreciate your video and learned a ton.
Glad to help man! Learning and sharing knowledge to others is what it's all about.
Love these videos, I have a couple of phaser 2 models and these videos have helped me out a lot, keep up the good work 💪
Great video! i wish i saw it before i changed mine on the 1995 phazer 2.She runs pretty good, but low end bog.its doable.great fun sleds!!
well im learning alot from you thanks for the tips you are GREAT
Happy to hear that! Cheers man!
It's after market because the stock pipe is all one piece with a big rectangular muffler made from 2 pieces of metal sandwiched together from front to back
Apparently this is a RCP pipe?
If your trails get icy you will be glad you have the studs, stopping\slowing down without them can be a real pain in the front end
Yep, I actually prefer no studs in the corners as you can slide it around a bit more (fun!) but the no stopping thing can get really expensive and painful quick.
Go to harbor freight and get those spring tools for $3
To remove the springs on the exhaust, i use hose pliers. More than one utility less junk in my toolbox
Can you do a video on adding reverse on a 90s phaser please
Sounds heavy
On a sled that old you might want to replace the driveshaft & jackshaft bearings while you have it apart. The bearings on the chain case side seem to last longer with the lube they get from the gear oil but I've had a few driveshaft bearings fail on the opposite side. The bearing will let go and snap the speedo cable so that is a good indication of a bearing failure. Also, you can make some tunnel protectors by attaching hyfaxes directly above the windows in the track.
Thought about it, but honestly that one is so easy to get to.... seems like it might have been changed relatively recently as well. Good idea with the old hyfax!
You could put some tunnel protectors in there to prevent that damage before it tears into the gas tank
I hope you used a bit of medium thread lock on the bottom bolt. I had one come into the shop that worked it's way loose. Love watching you videos.
I.... did not. Didn't see it mentioned, but maybe I'll tip it on the side, reinstall w locktite, and button it back up.
Little tech tip never use gear luv in chain case , use regular chain case oil for snowmobiles or 30wt oil
Why? Manual called for it, I think. Too thick?
@@ADDvanced eat to thick , if you take like klotz or other brands chain case lube you'll see the difference
That pipe is aftermarket not stock .
I believe it’s an RCP pipe
Not sure but my phazer had a 116” track so when I put on my 121” track I moved the mounting holes for the skid 2.5 inches back
Phazer 1s had a 116 and phazer 2s had 121
I like the hat and shirt combo!
Thanks for another video!
So heavier belt means a little slower initial acceleration but better grip to put the power down?
Ehhhhh might be about the same, as it's heavier but also a lot better traction. Biggest thing for me is I like having brakes, and when the track is basically a belt sander they don't stop very well at all.
@@ADDvanced Gotcha...
We don't get much snow here in the Netherlands.
So not much use for a snowmobile.
But I sure as hell would like to try one.
Sounds like you should head north for a winter vacation and rent some :P
@@ADDvanced Yep. Finland looks like a good place to go...
Do you want the original Aaen Pipe and Bender wide kit for your Phazer builds ? I'm in PA.
Would love to but I think shipping would be prohibitive.
@@ADDvanced Come on Man...... looks like you got the money to spend.
@@patyagecic3075 looks can be deceiving, why do you think I buy old junk and fix it up? :D
@@ADDvanced LOL, I know what you mean, This stuff I've been saving for almost 40 yrs, yup I'm a hoarder. I have Harley parts I've had much longer too. I figured one of you Phazer Freaks would love to have them.
@@patyagecic3075 I would I just feel like shipping something the size of a pipe from that far away would be insane.... AAEN is in Wisco so if I really need one I can probably find one local.
But yeah, pretty much everything I own was a pile of crap when I bought it, I just like to build cool stuff on the cheap.
that's not the stock pipe great video sled looks good with the new track
Thanks for the info!
Stock a.f buddy.
@@JoeRocket-sf6qs it's not a stock pipe bud
New track looks bitchin’. I recall turning my stock Phazer track 180 degrees to put the vertical section of the paddle to make it bite more. Waaaaay before aftermarket tracks with higher lugs. It was a bit of a wrestling match with the drive axle…
Have any info on shocks for these things?
@@ADDvanced no - sorry!
That's a aftermarket exhaust. good for 12-14hp, you want it, verify 148.8 main jets and 110 pilot or you could melt it down. Put tunnel protectors in or take the studs out, or they will tear up the tunnel (more).
Thanks just picked up some jets based on your suggestion! Yeah might remove them for weight too
@@ADDvanced they might all ready be in there due to the pipe being on the sled
@@danieljones7367 Probably but I never reuse jets if I'm rebuilding them, new ones are so cheap. I keep the old ones as spares.
I find it easier to remove and install the track/skid with the machine on its side.that pipe is stock.hard to watch but like you said you gotta learn somehow.lol🤪
Wait is it stock or not? Bunch of people said it was a performance pipe and I just rebuild the carbs accordingly
Take the studs out
why? Weight?
Yes. I agree. Sled like that keep it as light as possible. Playing in the snow. Track hookes up on something let it spin. Better then unnecessary strain on drive line
Because they wreck things
