    I have a tip that has helped me prepare meals. I prep my veggies usually a day or two from purchase. I buy onions, red and white and peppers, all the colors then I cut them up and freeze them in ziploc bags. I use alot of these veggies every week. I also make bone broth both chicken and beef and freeze it. I have several bags of tomato sauce (from my own garden) I use Fed by the Farm meat delivery and have sourced a fresh raw milk supply. Guess what? I made butter and it worked. Tomorrow I'm going to try your yogurt recipe and then drive to get fresh milk and cream. I'm currently binge watching your videos. Thank you for sharing. It is valuable and important.

    My daughter and I were talking about how her kitchen is always messy because she's always making food. The neighbors kitchen is never messy but everything comes from a package… Thanks for the inspiration. It's great and I'm sharing it with my daughter.

    Every week we do a soup, a salad, and a sandwich. This helps us come up with new recipes within a boundary which helps the overwhelm of ideas for me!

    As a homeschooling pioneer in Canada and someone who worked on the family natural organic farm and veterinary clinic, I understand the amount of work, but also the joy! We were so blessed to have this lifestyle for the first 15 years of our marriage and for our children's formative years. Our children now 43 and 42 have remarked many times that they were given the best childhood experiences and life, growing up in this environment. It is worth it, it makes for strong minds, bodies and spirits, and creates a great foundation to build a beautiful life on. God bless!

    For young kids, just changing the shape of the pasta in a beloved family favorite makes it all new! I meal plan like you. I think having a stocked pantry and freezer makes all the difference.

    For ALL meals think...
    Protein, Starch, Vegetable, and add fat, and seasonings (includes salt)..
    Breakfast: bread with butter and jam, chia seed pudding with toppings like nuts and fruit, or oatmeal (savory, add Sage and browned butter or sweet, add brown sugar and pecans). Veggies and protein. Smoothie whole ingredients. Homemade whole food muffin/bread (like banana bread or zucchini choc.chip).
    Lunch: soup, sandwich/wraps, salad, charcuterie, pasta, bento box
    Dinner: Meat, Starch, Vegetable.
    Tweak according to need. Add and remove based on your nutritional requirements.
    Stop eating 3 hours before sleeping for digestion so that the body can focus on repairing itself during sleep (7-8 hrs recommended).
    If there's time,...Wake with the sunshine and get light on your skin (30 minutes for vitamin D). Take a walk if you can. Meditate and pray during your walk... then Eat breakfast

    I’m from Poland and it’s the other way around for me 🤭. I can’t imagine buying broth at the store, not making my own Mac and cheese from simple ingredients that I have around the house. It makes me happy to serve homemade pizza or bake cakes that are not out of the box. I hope my kids will have a wonderful childhood memories and home made meals as a part of it.

    LOVE your view on stuck-in-a-rut! My view is a growth mindset so I realize that a rut can actually be quite productive. If i feel stuck, i just let myself be stuck and cook the staples on repeat, and i notice the constraints actually make it so i evolve or edit the staples to become new versions and voila..out of the rut! ❤

    It’s helpful to learn to wash as you cook. Cutting boards and mixing bowls get washed once it’s in the pot or oven.

    The Olive Garden soup: Zuppa Tuscana would be an easy hit for your family. I'm a one pot wonder myself, and I can make a big batch of this with my eyes closed. I've watched several of your videos today so I know you have all the ingredients, except for maybe Italian seasoning. It's basically sausage, bacon, kale, cream and potatoes. It's simple and yummy.

    I am alone now ,so I am the only one to satisfy, but like you, I still cook a meat, that I will use in different ways. A ham is good for a meal, sandwiches, beans, rice, fried taters and ham, breakfast. Then, I am ready to make something else. You do good.

    Ah….my kids and husband are the opposite. They get tired of everyone’s “favorite” meals very quickly. If we have something twice a month it’s nothing but complaints. My husband was a fine dining chef for years and everyone in the family likes a wide range of cuisines. That is lovely in that they aren’t terribly picky…..but boy does it set the bar high for their demands on variety!

    I appreciate how you have a general plan, but not being rigid about it. Great advice. I think that’s where frustration happens- if you don’t allow flexibility.
    Like you, I make soup every week. Very cost effective and a great way to use up leftover bits of meat, veggies, rice, beans, and pasta that aren’t enough for a meal or even a serving. It’s only 2 of us so I end up having some to freeze, so it’s easy to pull out if I want to deliver a meal to someone.
    Learning how to use herbs and spices is important in making meals tasty and interesting. I buy in bulk, have a ‘working stock’ in the kitchen and keep the the rest a cool dark room or even in the freezer. I also love growing sprouts for healthy fresh greens in the winter- great on sandwiches.

    I totally agree that coming up with the plan is the hardest. I always thought that I wouldn't make a plan but once that plan is done I just follow it. I find I use up things better, soak beans, feed my sourdough well...I enjoy adding a special side, fancy bread product, or dessert when I can where that is extra time or the energy. My batch time is a life saver too. The weeks that I don't get to that my whole groove is off and we don't eat as well.

    Great video! I'm a grandma who does alot of childcare which includes meals. Like you I always prepare a few meats and maybe boiled eggs and maybe a batch of quinoa or rice, etc. We also usually eat maybe one or two different vegs a week and then rotate to different ones the next week. Then I can just add a salad or some other item. Fridays I like to make a quiche and some other dishes that I can just warm them up on the weekend so I don't have to cook. By the way your breakfast looks delicious.

    I have found that making something new and different often ends up not a hit with my family because like you said it’s comforting to have a family favorite and the time and ingredients in the new recipes are wasted.

    Your breakfast is one that I make for myself when I have the veggies on hand. It’s the breakfast of champions! I agree that when I eat it I feel great and have a steady level of energy. I should consider roasting veggies so I always can make it.

    I think you’re killing it. I grew up pretty middle class. But my parents grew up dirt poor. Mom didn’t even have running water as a kid. So they spent like it. Most of the good food memories I have as a kid were the (cheap) stuff we had all the time. Spaghetti. Lasagna. Taco salad in those premade shells. Biscuits and gravy on the weekends. Dad though still hates poultry. They raised chickens and he said they ate it 3 meals a day. His 5 sisters don’t have that issue though so who knows.

    Cookie cutters are a great way to make fun sandwiches for the kids. Mine loved them.

    I love the sprouted oats from Costco . I’m checking out your video because scratch cooking like I do . Nothing processed . No one cooks from scratch anymore . I taught my daughter now 35 to cook from scratch. I used to make meatloaf , 40 meatballs , homemade manicotti, lasagna, pot roast , freeze it . Eat once freeze the rest . Never take out .

    My family on a day to day basis is just my husband and I. At first I found it frustrating trying to cook for just 2 and we did a lot of takeout. Now I cook for 3 to 4 days at a time. I’ll roast a chicken or several breasts and serve them with different sauces and sides each day. I will probably make a baked layered meat sauce and spaghetti to have on alternate days. I don’t feel overwhelmed and there are very few dishes most days.

    I wouldn't even say it's hard most of the time, just time consuming. I cook like twice a week as well, once at the beginning and once at the end and we eat on leftovers. The days I cook are messy and draining but not difficult🙂

    It looked like beets you were preparing. How do you prepare beets and how to you eat them ? Are they good with other vegetsbles? ❤ This is the first video I have seen and I love healthy eating. I don't cook with coconut because of high fat content. I feel like a little butter is better. Enjoyed all your tips. I wish I knew all this when info when I was young.       My favorite way to cook beets is to slice them thin and roast them! Our kids love when they are a little crunchy, like beet chips! We like adding them with winter squash and Brussels sprouts 😋. All the best to you!! Thanks for your encouragement!

    Hey! Stumbled on your channel and it’s been so encouraging and enjoyable watching through lots of your homemaking videos. I actually just cooked a chicken in my Dutch oven like you demonstrated and I had some questions. I used cast iron and cooked in the oven at 375 all day. I checked on it a few hours in and there was hardly any water left..I added more, but by the end of the cook time there was only a small amount of broth left and it was very rich..a huge line of fat on top. I ended up adding more water to it and refrigerating it, but when I tasted it, it was just soo rich. Would you recommend just adding more water or even skimming off the fat? (Not the collagen gelatinous part but the fatty later). I’m still learning cooking from scratch so maybe I didn’t do it right. Do you have any tips?

      Hi! When I do it all day, I cook it much lower like 225-250 (similar to a low setting on your slow cooker). If I cook it at 300-325 I cook it for more like 3-4 hours depending on the size of the chicken. I fill it so the water covers about 2/3 of the chicken. Hope this helps!

    i do a very similar breakfast...with only every other month grocery trips...im curious how do you have fresh greems every day year round? we have a variety of greens spring through early fall but winter not so much...do you have a way to keep greens fresh longer? what types of roasted veggies do you add? i usually do potatoes or squash for some carbs!

      Awesome! We have fresh greens typically may-November. We dry out kale and nettle and turn them into a powder that I’ll add to roasted veggies in the winter months! Like you, I like to make sure I’m getting a starchy veggie in there…squash and beets have been my go to combo lately but it will vary throughout the year.

      I roast a bunch of roots to have in hand in the fridge
      They are good cold even lol
      I put s&p, fat and vinegar on them
      I vary the roots and sometimes add cabbage or brussels
      Rarely use potatoes

    Liver pate- interesting! What’s the nutrient benefit there and do you cook it with the veggies? How does that mix in?

      Liver is so nutrient dense! It actually played a huge role in my healing. Here’s a video how we do it and incorporate it:

    I wanted to quickly leave a (hopefully constructive) feedback. I could not finish the video because the microphone quality was so bad. I came from other CZcams videos and noticed the difference in sound a lot. It felt like you were screaming at me in a noisy environment and it was starting to give me a headache. I'm sure I'm overly sensitive and people who watch you regularly and follow your life are more than happy to watch like this. Just personally, as a drop-in watcher, content-wise I would've like to finish the video but it wasn't worth the discomfort for me. Maybe you can think about a different solution where the microphone picks up your voice more in a more isolated way (or ignore me if I'm the only one feeling like this!)

    I don’t get burned out on the actually cooking…..I absolutely get burned out on meal planning! Seriously, if there is one chore I could offload it would be balancing all 7 people’s tastes, likes and dislikes, ingredients we can afford that are on sale or using what we have on hand, that don’t include any leftovers (my husband hates leftovers) , that have a variety of meals from different cuisines and very rare repeats in a short amount of time etc.
    it’s a lot.
    I decided last fall to make a full year worth of meal plans with 4 seasonal menus each lasting 30 days with no repeats, and then each of these menus will be repeated 3 times before we move to the next season. That means they will only have to have the same meal three times a year, lots of variety, and yet complete predictability for me once I have the year done.
    I got fall done and it went really well…..then we decided we were ready to move this spring to a new bigger homestead, so I have had to switch to quicker meals than usual so I have time for packing, deep cleaning and endless home repairs and updates. We are moving in a few weeks and I can wait to get back to finishing my whole year meal plan.

      It's an AGA! We found ours used from Facebook marketplace. They are from the UK and are a lot more rare in the US but you can find them if you look! We love ours!

    I see you use Redmond real salt. I just don’t like the crunch, like sand , in my food. Can you recommend another salt that healthy but not crunchy?

      That's so interesting. I've never noticed a crunch. Did you get there fine sea salt? Any high quality sea salt would be great - Redmond has always been our go to!

    I have grandkids now but when my children were little back when hotdogs were still food. I would cut one into an octopus and place it on their mound of Mac n cheese.

    I have to make tacos every morning for spouse to have for breakfast and lunch at work wake up at 4:30 am very tiring. It would help if I didn’t have to do it.

    This has been my family most of my life UNTIL my husband became a diabetic in February then our world changed. No sugar just stevia and I am a southern cook which changed to no sweets. Hope you don't do sweets much for their sake n yours.

      It caught my attention too! It looks like there is a room behind her kitchen, you are seeing her kids run around back there but they aren't very tall so you can only see their heads over the counter. 😂😂😂😂😂

    Thanks for making a video about cooking a whole chicken. I just did that yesterday, and I made my broth petsafe so I can share it with my dog. I have a chronic headache condition and I have a really challenging time making scratch meals when I'm having a headache. My husband encourages me to get convenient options, but those are SO expensive. We are already really strained in our grocery budget because everything is very costly where we live.
