      @crystalfurr5787 Před 4 lety +30

      I was a ball golfer also still love to tee it up but let me tell ya disc golf is a hell of a drug lol. Find a play it again sport or something similar in your area and grab 4 or 5 discs 2 putters and 3 midrange is a good start make sure to grab a over stable, nutral/stable and a understable one. Ask anyone working there if you don't know how to read flight numbers on a disc or they aren't marked. Grab a gym bag or something of the like put your disks brews/buds and find a nice flat smaller course close to you and let em rip. Start by throwing just the putters and understable midrange these are the easiest to throw and will teach you proper fundamentals and show your flaws clearly so u know what to work on. It's just as hard if not harder then ball golf it's free and u can play 18 holes in an hour or less if u play quick or u can play 18 in 2 or 3 hours and just enjoy nature. Hope this helps you on your way to huckin bud cheers

      @@BrodieSmith as an ultimate player of twenty years now getting into disc golf it is fun hearing someone else verbalise all the subtleties that life with an ultrastar has taught us about flight. I was always a good technical thrower in ultimate and had very good control of the disc, and have found throwing golf discs kind of easy but also interestingly challenging. Putting is the trickiest aspect I've found so looking forward to see how you get on with that..
      I have wondered how these golf discs would fly if they had the small grooves on an ultrastar which is what keeps them flying straight and stable. Great to see frisbee fanatics in discussion.

    • @rhoadshendrixpage
      @rhoadshendrixpage Před 4 lety +1

      @@subspaceanomaly There are some discs here and there that have the flight lines or grooves on top. Generally anything that diffuses regular airflow makes a disc more understable, so the ones with the flight lines fly in a unique way. There's all kinds of quirky ones out there for sure, even ones with a "thumb track" like an indention all around the top where your thumb can grip in. Discraft makes one of those called the Banger.

Ultimate and (mostly) freestyle with ultimate frisbees has been my experiences for over five decades. Learning that I should basically stay consistent with flat, controlled releases and let the disc's specialized mold do the work has made a major difference in my learning curve for both purchasing discs and training in the field. That is why people will put 3 of the same discs at different stages of ware. As you play what you start with you will "grow out of" certain discs or use them for different things. Great Video! Welcome to a beautiful sport. Paul dropped many nuggets of knowledge but most importantly for someone just starting u only need 5 discs 2 putters 3 midrange try and get one of each stability in the midrange and start by only throwing those it will teach you proper fundamentals and show you what you need to work on. Once you get the feel and can throw those properly then move up to your fairway and control drivers stay away from the 11-15 speed range you will throw a putter further then those. And always remember mate have fun it is an amazing sport to learn and play cheers

    Thought I would give a little more detail of what they are talking about for anyone interested.
    Hyzer and Anhyzer are general terms that explain how a disc is going to fly depending on how it is thrown.
    Hyzer is the direction the disc will naturally turn as it slows down, Anhyzer is the opposite direction.
    For a Right Handed back hand throw and Left handed forehand throw, hyzer is going to be the disc turning to the left with anhyzer to the right.
    For a Left handed back hand and Right handed forehand throw, hyzer is the disc turning to the right with anhyzer to the left.
    Stability-
    Overstable, the disc is going to want to hyzer sooner and harder than usual.
    Stable, the disc is going to fly pretty much straight from start to finish.
    Understable, the disc is going to "flip over" and turn anhyzer.

  • @TheECP
    @TheECP Před 4 lety

    For anybody new to disc golf, the reason understable discs are easier to throw is because to get any disc to turn right (right hand back hand like Brodie was throwing) you have to throw a certain velocity.
    So the understable discs want to turn right already. Discs that already want to turn right don’t have to be thrown as hard to go straight. That’s why you’ll get more distance at first with those. You’ll notice that some of the overstable discs were actually too fast for Brodie’s form still. If you throw something too fast or too overstable it will dump hard left without much distance.
    But this was a great video Brodie, keep it up and I’m rooting for you!

    Dope! You're bringing the game to so many new people! Keep it up. I'm an Innova guy but I'll be rooting for you Brodie!
    Also a driver with a dome will tend to be a little more overstable but also glide more. And that Crank SS is your roller...that would have gone 500'+ on that angle.

  • @JackayaTV
    @JackayaTV Před 4 lety

    The combination of disc selection and release angle is the magic of the game. Three dimensional fairways challenge you to not only select the right disc, but to throw it at the right speed and angle to navigate them. On top of that, there's not always a truly correct choice, as many holes offer multiple lines to attack the basket, each with their own risk and reward. IMO a player can cover every combo of stability and release angle with 12 discs. Starting out though, a player should have 3: an understable fairway driver, stable/understable mid, and a stable putter, and should try to restrain from buying more until they can throw a roller with that fairway driver on a flat release. Once they can do that, the whole world of shot shaping opens for them and each disc becomes a tool rather than a solution to a problem. Your starter set linked in the description does exactly that with the Heat, Buzzz, and Magnet. It's great to see you and Paul working through disc selection in an approachable way!
