  • Have your confessions become drab, lifeless repetitions that feel futile, lacking devotion and improvement? In this Theology Night, Fr. Christopher Bernabe will discuss how to effectively utilize the powerful sacrament of confession to eradicate venial sins, break out of a confessional rut, cut through the repetitive fluff, and forge real spiritual progress without bogging down the rest of the line - earning you the ire of your fellow travelers.

    This was so helpful as I just went to confession today. There were so many people in line to confess and I was the last person in line (I had gotten there 45 minutes early). The priest finally came out of the confessional to ask that the last dozen or so of us confess mortal sins only so we could be finished before Mass started. I now feel the grace of God and His mercy. He knew my heart and will grace me with the strength to overcome my shortcomings. Thank you Father.

      Great to see people queueing for confession!
      BUT, if a person is going to confession fairly regularly (once per month, say) there is no reason they should be any longer than a few minutes in the confessional booth.
      I feel so sorry for priests who have to sit through 20-30 minute confessions.
      It's obviously different for someone who wants to make a general confession.

    Maybe you should tour and give this talk to others! I don’t utilize confession like I should. I’m not sure if my sins are mortal or not, but I’m very prone to sin. Until I met Jesus I lived a life in deep deep sin.

    Excellent video! I stumbled upon this by accident, but it was worth every second. I learned a lot and feel confident about putting these insights into practice. Would like to know from where can I download the material you were reading?
    Also, Would it be possible for you to give a talk on self-love? Specifically, what it is, how it hinders spiritual growth, and how to overcome it. Ave Maria!

    Could someone provide a link to the 42 page guide Fr. B is referring to that appears to be the handout to the group to whom he’s speaking? Alternatively perhaps someone could add links in the description section of this video to the various resources he mentions. I hope that’s not too much to ask, but I know it could be difficult to do. God bless you all, especially Fr. B!

    How can we know if a venial sin becomes mortal? Like cussing, I knows it’s a sin, and I try my best not to, but it still comes out and since I know it’s a sin, and I choose to act on it, is it a mortal sin?

    • @Dienekes678
      @Dienekes678 Před 26 dny +1

      Nope, I wouldn't think so. Is it coming from frustration or malice? Are you slandering someone, or letting out a cus when you burn toast?
      Using our Lords name in vein or cursing God is a different matter, obviously. But don't be too hard on yerself, while at the same time pray for help to overcome this. It's a habit.

    If Jesus hears my prayers, and he does, then if I confess my sins directly to Jesus and not to a priest.
    Are my sins forgiven ? If not, why not ?

    • @leaf842
      @leaf842 Před 27 dny +2

      I'll take a stab at this... An answer might be, yes, Jesus can forgive us directly, but our minds are good at rationalizing things, and without the sacrament, we don't have the CERTITUDE that our sins have been forgiven.

    • @Dienekes678
      @Dienekes678 Před 26 dny +2

      Maybe they are forgiven, maybe they are not? Jesus granted His priests the authority to forgive sins. That's the only way you'll know your sins are definitely forgiven.
      It builds humility, too.
