      Keep asking the Holy Spirit to illuminate them. You will remember things you may not have even realized were sins and you can confess them with a truly repentant heart. Even if you're not sure something is a sin, go, and tell your confessor what is burdening you. He will help. I heard something on a good YT channel that had to do with the validity of marriage. Long story short, it applied to my situation prior to my becoming a widow so I went to confession. My priest wasn't sure either but he absolved me and took it to a Canon Lawyer who basically backed me up. Even thought I became free when I became a widow, I had made a sacramentally invalid marriage and that had to be confessed. I didn't know it at the time but the fact remained.

      The first couple of times I went, it was the Sacrament of "Reconciliation" and you just talk in private to the priest and he won't ask for specifics but if you have them in your heart and are truly sorry, you can be absolved. It can be mortifying to enumerate specifically. That's why the Reconciliation method was devised. But I think it takes a priest who is good at pastoral counseling and who doesn't just speak in platitudes. It should lead you to want more restitution and eventually lead you into the traditional confessional. This is a form of spiritual warfare as well. If you can't get to an actual Mass everyday, try to watch a televised one. I have started doing that and I find it has helped tremendously. There are several on YT. If you can't find time to pray the Rosary every day, at least do an Our Father, 3 Hail Marys and the Glory Be. I sometimes add the St. Michael prayer.

      @@tinalettierithere is only one sacrament of penance, AKA reconciliation AKA confession. Whether you are in a booth or just face to face anywhere it’s all the same sacrament, and it required kind and number to be valid. You have to be specific with the sin, but not with the details of the sin. So for an example you have to say if you watched p****graphy and how many times, but you don’t need to say what you watched specifically. There is no difference or such thing as a “reconciliation method” vs a “traditional confessional”. Reconciliation is just another name for the sacrament of penance

    For years I have been confessing the SAME SINS because I kept REPEATING the falling to temptation of the same sin of the flesh until the grace of God took place in my soul and finally the real realization came and I have undergone TRUE REPENTANCE. Thanks to Mary Most Chase intervention.And that took place when I began the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart First Friday Mass and First Saturday Mass devotion of which One Condition is a monthly confession which I practiced for many years. And one day when the devil tries to tempt me in my sleep, I was able to resist as my mind would immediately turns to Mary.Thank you for this podcast that it may help people who faces the same temptation over and over again. Its not that I have sorrow for my sins, but sometimes, after absolution, I am so grateful to God for this, that I cry. He still accepts me. I'm getting closer, I think. It has helped me to ask the Holy Spirit beforehand, for help in seeing how my sins offend God.

    • @brothernimishcoelho
      @brothernimishcoelho Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yes... Sometimes we don't know how to have sorrow, so we can ask the Holy Spirit to grant us that sorrow, and the best way to gain the Holy Spirits favour is to ask His Spouse, Mary. Just the fact of asking for sorrow, is a sign that we have sorrow. We mentioned that in the video (17:44 onwards)

    • @sdmascar8905
      @sdmascar8905 Před 4 měsíci

      Don't let this sorrow for offending God to receive forgiveness teaching torment you. It is not accurate. All you need for forgiveness of any sin, mortal or not, is imperfect contrition. That is a fear of going to hell. So if you confess your sin with a disposition to not do the sin anymore you will be forgiven. You need either perfect or imperfect contrition to receive forgiveness of mortal sins as taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs 1451-1453. Either type of contrition suffices. So confess your sins and know that God is faithful and will forgive you.

    • @brothernimishcoelho
      @brothernimishcoelho Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@sdmascar8905 It is true that we did not use the words imperfect contrition/perfect contrition, but that doesn't make what we said inaccurate. What is is imperfect contrition if not a supernatural sorrow? Although we don't have to cry to have sorrow, we must be sorry in our heart i.e. sincerely.
      And yes, it is important to stress on perfect contrition although it is not necessary for the absolution to be valid. A perfect contrition can put you in the state of grace because it arises out of Charity towards God and this gives the person a disposition to confess if possible.
      If we aim for a merely imperfect contrition, then we should not expect much progress in our spiritual life, and the probabilty of the person drifting away from confession is much higher, and could eventually lead to.... rather not say the word.

When you go to Confession, you can simply tell the priest that you are sorry for ALL of your sins, even the ones you forget. It is so important to receive Communion, for it is the Bread of Life. When we seriously contemplate receiving Communion, who of us is worthy? But...Jesus left us with this gift of Himself, and told us how important it is to receive Him. The Church makes it possible for us to receive Him as often as possible...even every day, or even twice a day. Jesus has made it possible for you to be worthy to receive Him, even though we are not worthy. Please go to Communion! God bless you!

    I came back to the Church after a long detour into Evangelical Christianity about two years ago. I knew I had to make Confession. I'm not in the US but I went to my local Church and asked for a priest. They are Carmelites, btw. Father took me into a room and we sat and talked about my journey. He told me I did not have to enumerate my sins but just be truly sorry in my heart because God knows what I did and what I repent of. Then he absolved me. Once I started going to Sat. evening Mass, I saw that traditional confession is available and as I have recalled things I've done, I have confessed them in private and specifically. I am pre-Vatican 2 and this just felt better to me. I'm still not 100% sure I was absolved of all the things that were on my heart that first time even tho I know I was truly sorry for them, some as a child when I didn't know they were mortal sins.

We overreact and Say hash words. That's fifth commendment and also capital sins of pridefulness and anger and also related to not following act of Mercy as lovingly correct and forgive someone, all for the Glory of God and love of fellow men.

    At one time I was using confession to sin. I was graced by Jesus and only Jesus & I spoke of it. I usually cry when I go to confession. I can't help it. I made the priest uncomfortable at times. It was deep. Because Jesus died brutally for me. I meditate on his passion death crucifixion but I still sin. The closer I get to Jesus the easier I cry when I sin. It is natural for me. Meditating on his life passion crucifixion death is heart wrenching.

    I love your videos, and the timeliness of them are often uncanny.
    I generally love going to confession. I do complete a checklist; a thorough self examination of conscience, and I try to go to confession every 2-6 weeks.
    Something very unusual happened to me in the confessional this past week. I don’t recall this ever happening to me as an adult. I’m over 50; I have gotten over nearly any bashfulness regarding confession with our priests.
    However, this happened on Saturday afternoon, during my most recent confession I had a massive urge to lie in the confessional. I didn’t give in to the urge, I gave an honest confession.
    But why? I didn’t have anything earthshaking to confess, my life is fairly boring, confessions are just about as exciting.
    My question: (I don’t understand why I didn’t bring this up in the confessional.) Should an immediate urge to lie during confession, even when the urge is ignored/suppressed, become part of the confession as well? Is it a sin if the urge is resisted… and if so, is that venial or mortal?
    I guess I had always thought that the confessional would be a place of protection against the evil one.
    May God bless you for your sacrifices and service to Him, and to us Catholics. Thank you and blessed Lent.

      Hello Ali. You were tempted, and you overcame that temptation! Good for you! Sometimes we are tempted to hide our sins because of the strong urge not to reveal our true selves to other humans, out of desire for human respect. Even when the priest cannot see us or does not know our voices, we can find ourselves in that situation. The most important thing is that you resisted that temptation and made an honest confession. The evil one does not want us to confess our sins, because when we make a good Confession, we receive huge graces and strength to resist his tricks and snares. God bless you too!

    POPE BENEDICT XVI: “People should not fear God, thinking he is always ready to punish, but rather they should love him because he is always ready to forgive.
    God is not a relentless sovereign who condemns the guilty, but a loving father whom we must love not out of fear of punishment, but because of his goodness.
    The Lord is a God who is just, but always ready to reveal himself as merciful and compassionate.
    God loves us in a way that we might call ‘obstinate’ and enfolds us in his inexhaustible tenderness. The anger and mercy of the Lord alternate in a dramatic sequence, but love triumphs in the end, for God is love.”
    “God’s passionate love for his people - for humanity - is at the same time a forgiving love. It is so great that it turns God against himself, his love against his justice.”

I was at Adoration one day just talking my head off to the Lord about it, I was sssoo upset and I was going to go off on the person but the clearly said “ I will deal with them.” So I left it alone. I don’t care how tiny the venial sin is go to confession anyway. I saw a video the other day about St. Theresa of Avila and what she saw in hell. She saw people falling in hell like snowflakes and she told the Lord “surely these are unbelievers” He told her no, they were people who made poor confessions or didn’t think they sinned enough to go to confession. She had many mystical experiences with Jesus. When He told her that I was stunned. This video was good because people don’t take confession serious enough and we do have to have a serious mind about repentance and extreme sorrow. You can probably find the video on CZcams. What St. Theresa of Avila saw in hell. God Bless! Enjoyed the chat. 💕🙏😇

      The salvation of each individual soul depends on God's perfect wisdom. We were only trying to help Catholics seeking perfection to find out how to confess better. (Besides, an unintentional error is never a fault, but not all errors in confession are unintentional. For instance, hiding a mortal sin is perfectly intentional, and indeed a sacrilegious mockery of the Sacrament of confession. Also, if the intention of abandoning sin is not present, then confession is not even valid since the person is not repentant for what he did. No one can be repentant of attempted murder if he still wishes to kill the person at the first opportunity. These are not unintentional.)

    • @HeraldsoftheGospel_official
      @HeraldsoftheGospel_official  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @jcab3424
      I'm almost certain all your confessions were valid, so stay calm. If you sincerely wish to overcome sin, and confess for that, then you're on the right track.
      As for occasions of sin, you have to understand what a near occasion of sin means. A "near occasion" depends on certain circumstances. For instance, for some people, the simple use of internet may be a near occasion of sin. For others, it is not at all. Then again, there are certain circumstances that are occasions of sin for almost all humans, but it may not be a near occasion, if the person is obliged to it by his profession. (For example: doctors.) Now, if a person knows that a certain situation has already led him to fall several times into the same sin, then for that person this is a near occasion, even if it might not be for others. So, if that is the case, we should avoid this at all cost, even if it means some loss, like that of a friend or that of our social relationships.
      I know a priest who was obliged to once tell a man that he had to completely give up on the use of internet if he wanted to save his soul. Of course, this was an extreme case. For most people, certain blocks are enough to keep the person from sin.
      In any case, if you have the intention of not sinning again, and of avoiding the occasion if that's the only way to not fall into sin, then your confessions are valid. The question you put is about something else. It's the same as asking what happens if we fall into the same sin after Confession (because no one can sin without an occasion for it). Well, that's precisely what we have confession for. We have to confess as many times as it is necessary to overcome our sins.
      There is no need for scrupulosity. Scruples are a lack of confidence in God's mercy. God did not give us the Sacrament of Confession to condemn us, but because He wants to save us. Scruples arise because we want to practice virtue to feel that we can prove our worth to God. We should actually practice virtue to please God, and God alone. To recognize our miseries and humble ourselves for them is actually a good reason to grow in confidence in God.
      I would recommend to pray a lot to Our Lady, especially the Rosary, to overcome sin and scruples. Leave the rest to her. I also have a superb book recommendation: the Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux. It will change your life, I promise.
      One last thing: CONFIDENCE! Remember that for God, for Our Lady, everything is possible. We're praying for you!

    Need also to ask about distraction of sinful thoughts adding to regret not a simple thing.

      Hello! Yes, it is very important to persevere in prayer. If you are unable to reach the Sacraments, there might be some way to do so. Perhaps, a friend or a relative could help you and bring a priest to visit you. If you are unable to confess you should always make an act of contrition asking pardon from God for having offended Him, and resolving never to sin again.
      As for "sinful thoughts", to have a thought or an image in our mind is not a sin at all. It would be a sin if we provoke it by exposing ourselves to things or persons that lead to us having these thoughts, or if we consent to the thoughts and take pleasure in them. That is why it is important to pray immediately and distract yourself with something else.
      I think, more than anything else, the devil wants to make you lose your peace by suggesting all these things. Pray, and confide in God. If you fall, ask pardon, and try to confess. Peace of soul is imperative. Sin is often a fruit of losing our peace. God bless, and count on our prayers!

      Hello. Priests still use the stole, though some might have dropped the practice. The stole should only be used by Bishops, priests, or Deacons, and only at the moments when they specifically exercise their ministry, like when they administer the Sacraments, or take the Blessed Sacrament in hands. The use of the stole does not affect the validity of the Sacrament.
      As for the anointing of the sick, the Church still uses the rite of anointing organs of the body that symbolically correspond to the five senses, as well as the feet. This may be dispensed and a shorter rite (for instance, anointing only the forehead) may be used for reasons of brevity, necessity (medical conditions) or modesty (especially in the case of women). This does not affect the validity of the Sacrament. The Church expressly permitted this.

Which means as soon as you finish confession and do your penenace when you get home burn that paper. Hope that helps. Ask your priest for guidance on that.

    I finally went to confession at Pentecost after a year. I spent many many many hours preparing and writing them down but it got to the point where I was thinking and ruminating all the time about the sins and writing everything down so I made myself stop and went to confession a few days later. Then I remembered I purposely didn’t write down these sins because I was trying to stop the compulsive rumination so now I’m doubtful about my confession. I just wish this was easier for me

      Hello. A good Confession occurs when we take to the Sacrament all of those things which are sinful in our lives. When we hold back on those sins, whether out of fear or embarrassment, we deprive ourselves of the multitude of graces that Our Lord will grant us in that humility, fear and humiliation of admitting our faults. There are healing graces in the Sacrament of Confession, and even though we find it difficult through the fear of bringing all of this to light, that is where the healing takes place. Light drives away darkness and fear! God bless you; we are praying for you.

    I don't want to sin until it comes before me. If I really believed in God, then I'd labour to avoid the sins perfectly and sometimes He has enabled me to be successful, but often enough I fail and fly into sin as I have no care or faith in God. So, then I doubt my efforts and become discouraged. How can I pray or go to confession when this merry-go-round of sinning, confessing, and sinning again repeats itself?

      With perseverance and confidence! "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!" When we fall, we get back up; giving up is not an option. God bless you!

    Thank you for covering this vital topic and the pitfalls one can fall into unless knowing these serious points of contrition for our Lord. When I hear 'absolve', I almost start crying ... to know He loves us even when we mess up, what a wonderful loving God.

    Fathers is it fair to say or think that Since Jesus bore our sins on the cross that our sins were his wounds and own sorrow and thus He feels, felt and will feel all of our sins ? 🙏🏼❤️our confession and penance reparation / balsam to heal those wounds?

      Good question, Ally. Indeed, Jesus would know all the sins that would be committed in the future, all the offenses that would be committed against Him, his holy mother, and against the Church. We know that Jesus died for us to atone for our sins, so that the gates of Heaven would be opened to us again, since they were closed after the Fall of Adam and Eve. This was His reason for coming to us and why He is called the Redeemer: He came to redeem us of our sins. And yes, our Confession and Penance soothe and comfort Him, for He is greatly offended by the sins of humans. We need only look back on the words of the three shepherd children of Fatima to be reminded of how greatly offended Our Lord is, and how we can ameliorate these offenses.

    How does a persons confess a sin of impurity in thought? Does he have to say if the thought was about himself or others or what?
    Is it good enough to say “entertaining impure thoughts x amount of times” and that’s it?

      Hello. I would also add any circumstance that aggravates the sin, by the nature of the relationship brought to mind.

    If a person is elderly and can't get to church to confess one's sins can the person confess one's sins to God in one room?

      Hello, Glen. The beauty of Confession is that we can tell the priest exactly that! Father, I do not remember every single sin of my life, but I am sorry for all of them. If we are contrite and truly sorry for every sin, then we are forgiven in the Sacrament of Confession.

      Hello Katarina. I thing you mean, confession without sorrow. If we do not have sorrow for the sins that we commit, then we are not truly honestly confessing our sins.
