Your sketch is already cleaner than my lineart
Haha! Well, this was a "clean-up" sketch... meaning I had an initial rough sketch, then sketched over that - to refine it! :) Don't worry pal! There's nothing wrong with a messy sketch! I love em!
That "sketch" is basically high tier lineart for my standard
Haha! That was actually my sketch over my (clean up sketch) :D But don't worry! It gets easier over time! :)
What saved my line art was. This.
Brush- Tool Options - Stabilized - turn off delay - set distance to 200.
My line art was hella smooth afterwards
Sounds a lot like the settings I showed in my lineart brush video I recorded a few days ago! Should be up on the channel very soon!
That helped tremendously. Was about to give up lineart alltogether because I could just not find the right settings.
Thank you kind sir!
Oh my god thank you so much! This truly saved my art!!!
where is stabilized???
Lunar use the pen (hotkey : b) and then at top right there should be tool options. When you click that there is a tiny box that I think says basic or none. Click the box and the stabilizer option is at the bottom.
One of the things that really confused me is that a lot of teachers tell you not to "chicken scratch" or "pet the line" when doing line art, which led me to believe that you're supposed to do single strokes for *every* line in a drawing. Thanks for the tips!
I think how ever you need work your tools to create and enjoy creating can't be "wrong", it's just not how someone else does it and sure teachers are paid to teach how "they" do it and "their" process...but when you are in your own space and time there are no "rules" when it comes to creation, just general practices that tend yield a more pleasing product or maybe save time....nothing more or less. My opinion is that these "rules" are what got me to not create a thing for nearly 15 years, when I just started making things I thought were interesting without judgement I got going...then came back to some techniques, but once burnt twice shy when comes to the "s'posta's", as I call em. Forget what supposed to do, just do as thy will harm none. Period. Ya dig?
Teachers tell you to not chicken scratch because chicken scratching leads to bad habits and inhibit your learning process.
Drawing single, continuous lines will enable more mistakes, but in turn train up your motor skills.
You can go back to chicken scratching if you have learnt how to draw without chicken scratching.
Im so glad to see you hitting ctr z I mess up so so so much I though it was just me and i sucked lol
YES! Ctrl-Z should always be a very close friend :D Depending on the art style, I'll use it more or less. With this clean edge line art... I tend to use it a LOT... but, a more messy sketch style line art... not as much :) You do NOT suck :D
From what i see, almost everybody hits ctr z alot during line art. Even i do
Digital seems like a lot of work😫 I thought it would be easier with the limitless possibilities, but... alas this gave me a few things to consider
A lot of work? No no! Where'd you get that from?! It's exactly the opposite! :D Digital IS MUCH easier than traditional. Traditional costs money, every time you want to paint something. Traditional can't be undone. Tradition is always a one of a kind, unless you make more than one. Digital is the no-brainer to me :)
johnson6099 You have to learn the new online tools, but only after you learn does it becomes easier because you can use a fill tool and create custom brushes in minutes, etc.
@@TutsByKai Well, I mean. Pencil and Paper are much easier but with digital you have much more order and more simplicity.
@@zombrexgame6670 imho traditional art is easier and more convenient in every way
All I would need to do is learn coloring at this point
Drawing digitally makes me feel like I cant draw right and I dont think I've hated anything more than rn
I totally agree johnson6099. Drawing with a pencil on paper is so much easier. Digital art is a TOTALLY different thing altogether. There are no similarities. They are as far apart as driving a car is to piloting a jumbo jet.
Omg, thank you so much for showing how to colour the lineart on the separate layer! I've been looking for this forever. I love a lot of colour in my drawings and this is perfect for a softer look!
Yay! I'm glad you found this video 😄 Yes! Colored line art has a really nice soft effect 😋
the 2nd method you used to change lineart color was really helpful! it helped me give my drawing a more line-less look without hiding the actual layer ^^
Thank you so, so much :) Glad you are finally able to color your line art! That is a MUST HAVE in my book :)
Great tutorial, ive been using krita for a year now without watching any tutorials and this has helped me progres so much faster with my art
im more of a pencil and ink kind of person and im trying to learn how to do digital lining and you really helped me so thank you.
You just lined me to your channel. :D
I learned so much more from this tutorial than any of the other ones I've seen!! Tysm!
Aw thanks! Very very very glad to help you out
So glad that I'm not the only one who spent literal hours getting flipping smooth lines.
This tutorial answered a pressing question of mine. I have been trying to rotate my drawing tablet instead of the canvas. Big facepalm moment for sure! Thank you for this video - your channel is the answer to a lot of my questions.
Didn't know about the quick clipping group option! Looks handy. Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I've been trying to productive in this quarantine situation but I have no idea how to use any of Krita tools. This is helps.
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial, it helped me immensely! :) Thank you, thank you, thank you
You're VERY very welcome :)
You. Are. My. ART SAVIOR!!!!
It's my fav brush for outline too!!
Some of the nicest tutorials on Krita that I've seen! Nice inking techniques and nice brush. Do you use any stabiliser settings at all or just trust your fast strokes in order to get such straight lines?
Thank you so much Diego! :) I use to try and work with stabilizers... but I like having more control, just using the faster strokes! Plus, if I screw up, Ctrl-Z is right there :D
@@TutsByKai best approach indeed, in any case, from what I can see you don't need it.
I ended up creating a one-key shortcut for undo, to avoid searching for both without looking
Thank you! :) Hmmm, nice! Never thought to change the Ctrl-Z keybind! I just might do that! :)
This is super super useful. I was getting so frustrated with my line art. Thanks for the tips I will be doing this tomorrow! :D
I used to draw with SAI , but since my 30-days trial is done I try to find an application that is similar to SAI. I tried to use photoshop but it doesn't work for me at all, and when I heard that Krita is free I immediately downloaded it. At first it was confusing to use since I'm new to it, but for months of use I get the hang of it!
I appreciate people who use Krita and make tutorials for it :D
Thanks for this. Something needed by many but not many tutorials out there for it 🙏
You're very welcome!
How do I get that “starting brush size” I’ve been trying to find it to make my lines sharper but I can’t find it :/
This is super helpful - thank you!
Very glad I could help you! :)
Another way to change the line color is to simply click Lock Alpha (the checkerbox) on that layer and wash over the lineart you want to change with the new color, though clipping group you show is nice because it's non-destructive and you undo it by simply deleting the sublayer.
Great tips! Thanks!
is there a way to change line thickness? ive drawn until i realized i was using the wrong size since my plan was to draw the background with the size of 3 and the main character with 7, but unintentionally ive used 7 for both and ive drawn too much of the background lineart already. is there a way to just change the thickness of the line without redoing it?
i have a question. i think i sound dumb while saying this but, i just downloaded krita and i want to do lineart, i just don't understand how to get sharp edges... i kind of ffigures out how to make custom brushes, but i just can't figure out how to get sharp edges.
My videos on brushes may help you out :)

@@TutsByKai thank you! the videos were very helpful! :D
Glad to help out :)
This video really helped. Thanks
Do you add a new layer If you add 1 line everytime or keep some on the same layer if far apart
why is the brush editing tools icon different from mine? In the version I use it looks something like 3 lines with a brush stroke over them and in your video it's four boxes with something inside each one. I have the impression that I changed something and I don't know how to revert it.
I don't use Krita, but I still love these videos!
Thank you my dude! Much love!
give it a try and create art!
how do you move the canvas around while you work?
how do you open the advanced color selector though? for me it doesnt show anything like that
What button do you use to instantly change into ereaser?
Oh thank you so much!!❤️my lineart lt's so ugly but now is cool
How thick do you recommend I make my lines? I usually have it at 10.
Quick question:
My lines have these rounded edges on both ends, which I don't like. How can I get those tapered edges like you have?
It looks hard, but I actually understand how it works and now I just need to remember what key button goes to which tool, as this is going to be my first time drawing digital
This really saved me
How do you get the docker that shows all the settings when you select a brush (all the options appear beside it)? I keep having to go to the tool bar and select opacity and rotation and such. Thank you!
Right-click anywhere on the canvas and it appears! You can also edit which favorite brushes appear on there. Krita has a tutorial on their website.
this was super helpful OwO
Thank you for this video!
But, I have a question-
Every time i draw, whatever pen/ pencil i use, it always comes out as *pixels*
no smooth lines, but *_pixels_*
It's a -little- really annoying, and so much like MS Paint...
What can I do to stop it? lol.
I have the latest Version of Krita, and nothing seems wrong with it..?
Thank you very much
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!! IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO RE COLOR FOR MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
Awesome!! Very glad I could help!!! :)
how do you export an artwork without it like changing color ? please help
How to zoom and rotate in krita ?
Turn on brush and eraser one after another?
0:56 how you do this, i set my brush to pressure like yours its still not smooth i only use mouse
But how do you get the tail tho I'm not getting that with mine the ends come out rounded rather then sharp
How to fix that annoying size changing eraser? When my pen r not touch the tablet, it size went big but once It touch the sceen it went small
Should i get a tablet & pen, or should i stick with mouse? I really don't know which i should choose
Hey there, thanks fo the video it's really helping, but I tried using your brush settings but mine didn't get that sharp edge, which was the effect that I wanted, could you share your settings for that brush specifically?
Sure thing! czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html :)
Is there a way I can get sharp edges with a touch screen computer? (Ik I dont make sense) I have a dell with a big screen that's touch screen and I cant get any sharp edges and I have searched videos on how to enable touch screen but none work :P and when I try making my brush sharp it doesnt show a preview or doesnt draw to see what it looks like :P
THANK YOU SO MUCH
I LOVE MY BRUSH NOW❤️❤️❤️😊
How did you get the lines to to taper at the end like that? I tried to keep up at 0:51 but I didn’t get it :( I’m still new to Krita
The tapering is line / pressure sensitivity! Take a look at this video: czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html Should help you out! I have many more Krita videos too, that could also help! :)
An other way to change the color of the lineart and pretty much everything that you drew on a layer is by just clicking on the little chessboard at the top or where the layers are listed. If you then color the layer, you can only color the things that you already drew
You mean creating a layer at the top, then setting it to screen (or another blending mode), and dropping the opacity? I do this for photomanipulation - but for drawing, I like to have more control over what colors go where and how strong they are :)
@@TutsByKai actually it's just the same thing that you did in the video, but instead of clicking the stuff that you did, you only click on this little chessboard (btw sorry for my terrible english, I'm actually german😅)
How did you rotate the canvas?
When I tried to make a custom brush, I try to draw on the scratchpad and no line. I try drawing on the document and nothing. I change to a different brush and it works. I’m steadily getting frustrated! Does anyone have an answer?!
I really need help with my eraser! Its not working! All I get is bright pink dots and after that it smudges my lines instead of erasing them. Please help!
Every time I use the pressure it just doesn’t change anything but the fustration
I’m new to Krita and I’ve noticed a lot of artists zoom in and tilt. How do I do that? Or what are some shortcuts I can add to zoom in and tilt?
A combo of Ctrl, left click or the lowest button on your drawing pen! :)
TutsByKai thank you!!
Of course :)
i tried to find this brush but there isnt in my krita
is there a way to change the thickness of an outline to an entire drawing? not just one single line
great! but why not directly using the first layer(the blue one)
I Dont understand why my pen dont change when i'm doing some modifications ( i'm in pain right now i need help fr) like in the "size" thing when i'm changing something it do the same thing (i'm not talking about the size of the pen i dont care if it's big or small , if you understand help me) :')
How do I gonna connect line's pls tell me
what brush did he use? and how do u make it clear like the background cause mine has squares i want clear like a paper any help?
czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html :)
Can someone tell me how to get the fade on both ends of the lineart?? :D
What's the flaw with scanning an actual drawing in and importing it
Words can describe how much I hate drawing on this site but I'd like to use it for coloring since it's all I have access to
Will it work fine if I scan the drawings or is there something altered about it ?
Not much. Well... unless you plan to use the lines as your final line art. If you do that, the lines will more than likely not be clear enough... but scans work GREAT for sketches!
I know I'm really late in this video, but I recently got into drawing on the computer and on krita, and I've been having an annoying problem! I followed all the tips you and everyone else gave me, but the main problem I know have is that my ink is really pixelated! I have my pen size to 4 and 5, yet when I zoom in to ink, the lines aren't as clear as yours and it's extremely pixelated. One more thing that adds on to that is that with my pressure, the pixel's opacity (i think?) changes and my lines end up being really ragged! I'm probably sounded dumb right now but some help would really be appreciated!
Definitely not dumb! I made a video EXACTLY about this, since others were having problems with this too. Try this :) Should work like a charm -----> czcams.com/video/CrmcqeoLyag/video.html
So helpful!
Very glad I could help!
How do I make the lines themselves smooth and not pixelated at the edges?
When you zoom in super close, the lines will always be "pixelated", that's the nature of raster graphics. You're literally just painting a bunch of pixels... you're just so zoomed out, you can't see it. If you want your lines to be 100% smooth NO MATTER how far you zoom into them... you HAVE to use vector graphics. Try out Inkscape! It's GREAT :)
how to erase without the alpha squares showing up can somebody help me? plzzz
Very nice tutorial sir.
Glad you enjoyed! :)
how do you get krita to let you do the turning the canvas thing?
my wacom used to do it, i get the touch thing to work and see the settings but it's all set and should work
is there options for Krita where i need to enable this seperately?
5:00 oooooh it's fucking numpad! oh my god thanks!
Ctrl + Bottom pen button I believe. May also be Shift + Bottom pen button... I can never remember unless I'm actually doing it :D
Can you do a line art tutorial for hair too? :)
My brush still round, how do i fix that?
You might wanna take a look at my brushes video! Check it out on my Krita playlist, on my channel :)
Why cannot I make my brush like that?
I cant get my line to go fine on the edges, it stays round even when I change my settings T_T - help?
Your videos are the most relevant about krita. I seriously need help to get my lines like that I coped all your settings and the lines don’t look anything like that idk what to do pls help:(
Edit: I think the problem was maybe because I was in an animation workspace? I switched to default and now the brush looks like the one in the vid
Awesome! Glad you fixed it up, pal! :) I dunno, that sounds super weird, changing the GUI / workspace shouldn't change ANYTHING about your brushes :/ Something strange was going on :o
TutsByKai yeah it was really weird and frustrating. I’ve been binge watching your vids ever since I got my tablet. Keep up the good work bro
Aw that's awesome dude! Thank you very much! Glad to help :)
how do you rotate canvas? what hotkey is it?
Ctrl-Bottom button on your pen :)
I cant get my paint brush to taper on the end like yours.
Try this! czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html
Do ya have a link for your inking brush?
100% czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html
try using the liquify tool that help me a lot
Only try to use that for sketches. For lineart, it'll degrade the quality of the line, very much :o
Is it impossible to get the sharp edges without a tablet? I've been searching for answers and it really seems that I can't achieve that feature wihout a tablet :(
You can erase the edges manually, carving them into a point.
Yo didn't use pen pressure tool for the lineart? Or was it already in the pen pressure with pen size?
Yup, my brush already has pressure!
Hi great videos, and what about using Bezier curves, I think would be easier.👍👍😃😃
Bezier curves are only good for if you're drawing without a digital art tablet OR for if you need to create a 100% straight or perfectly curved line! I wouldn't use them for regular line art.
This is super helpful! Now, this might be a stupid question, but I'm all new to Krita so I'm just trying to figure it out. How do you rotate the drawing like that?
Ctrl click I think :D Can't remember off hand! :)
@@TutsByKai I'll try it out, thank you! :D and again, super helpful tips in the video! Thank you :)
Actually! Just remembered! It's Shift + the bottom pen button! :)
@@TutsByKai Awesome! :D thanks!
Anytime!
Is there a feature where you can trace an entire drawing you bring into Krita in one selection?
You can select an entire specific color in a selection, so you could copy and paste the line-art. (If it's all one color.) As for multiple colors? not sure. But that does come handy if you forget to put coloring on a different layer before shading, since you can basically paste all the black onto a new layer.
God thx you so much! I just got a graphic tablet and im Lost with krita
Hello there! for some reason i cant get the sharp edges in my brush, Can you reply with your settings?
Yes me too i have the same problem : (
@@akiraandthemoon2551 Found it out, Turns out you need a digital pen with Pressure on it, mouses cant do that sadly
@@jabbinnn same : (
very nice Sketching video tutorial, even though sounds so waste of time to apply though :D . Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it buddy! :D
So 0:55 changing the pressure there is the only thing you need to do in able to get both edges of the line sharp? It's normal that you need to move while starting the line for the start of the line to become pointy?
If you whip the tail of the line, it should have a "pointy" end. For the start of the line, you'll have to start soft, then press harder to get a sensitivity to your liking.
It doesn't work even if I whip the tail. Did you only change the pressure on the brush? If that's not the case what else did you configure with the brush?
I mean it doesn't look like my lines at all.
is this program good with a mouse
All painting programs will be the same with a mouse. Lousy. I'm gonna go over a few tips to painting with a mouse VERY soon!
m9ad tablets only
Hmm hey I got a prob .... it just won't work when I try to color over the line art like you did here 8:22 ......it colors around the line as well 🥺
Is the line art layer in a group?
Is the layer you're using to paint over the line art, set to a blend mode other than Normal?
Hi, sir, like to know how u got to rotate ur drawing with the image ur copying???
Hold Crtl to rotate the canvas, use the rotate tool to rotate a layer.
@@TutsByKai hmm, i tried to rotate pressing the Crtl key but nothing happen. do i need to do other than the control
I cant find the tool options :0?
It's on the right hand side by default I think (they always change it) Head to Settings > Dockers > Tool Options.
So I used to use flipaclip and then when i started of pc using krita ... it was sooo much easier ... like SOOOO much easier if you use stabilizer...like ... omg, also I loved this video this is very useful since I'm just starting off on krita
Aww thank you! :) Really really appreciate that!! Glad you enjoyed ^___^
@@TutsByKai:]
@@TutsByKai How can i fix my previous frames still being there when i go to my second frame so when i go to my second frame I'm basically just adding on??
ou're animating? Ahh okay! You want it to add on, or you don't want it to add on? If you don't want it to add, then turn off Auto Frame Mode. That should do it! :) If it still copies the previous frame. You could always just hit delete before drawing. That's what I like to do :D
@@TutsByKai alright thanks!
hmm your brush does not work for me, idk why but I only get a spike at the beginning but not at the end.
