If theres anything I didn’t cover in this video or any questions you have, don’t hesitate to let me know!! ^^
* 00:58 Turns out when working in pixels, the resolution shouldn't have much of an effect on lag.
* Also correction for 1:40, I don't recommend working in CMYK from the start as that will limit you to a smaller colour space, so if you want to print something just convert it from RGB to CMYK later! (thank you so much to the person who let me know!!)
I started using Krita too. It's a good photoshop alternative. please checking my videos too. I would like an expert's opinion.
dear lady, i love your video, its very informational.
there is one thing i noticed. you dont seem to understand resolution that well
its true if your resolution is higher on a picture defined by length with in inches or centimeters etc it will be harder for your laptop as it will contain more pixels in that immage then if you had a lower resolution.
however.... you created your image with a with and length defined in pixels.
2000 x 2000 pixels to be correct, when you then have a low or high resolutions is of no concern it will stil be 2000 x 2000 pixels.
your laptop wont go faster or get more laggy of you put a high or low resolution in it.
the 300 people talk about is a resolution of 300 pixels per inch and is more there for printing as mst printers use 300 dots per inch in most prints.
setting your canvas as 300 means it will print out at a certain size.
but as i said you did not define your canvas in a size by inches or centimeters but by 2000 x 2000 pixels
you can have a resolution of 1 or 300000 it will still be 2000 x 2000 pixels for the laptop to work with
your resolution says ppi meaning pixels per inch and that corresponds to your printer dpi meaning dots per inch.
so once you set your canvas to 2000x2000 pixels puttinng a higher or lower number resolution in the box wont change your image quality in any way.
so its better for you to set it to 300 in case you wish to print.
love the video a lot btw. good work, just subscribed
really good video, I hope you make more
Thanks so much, I'm a math prof learning to use a wacom tablet for teaching, but I like art too. This is very helpful, and I looked at several of these. Well done and thank you!
Great video I have a question! What boxes do you check when you save your image and do you save as jpg or png? Would you make a video on this? ^^
I'm a sucker for keyboard shortcuts, so here are all of them listed:
m: mirror image (for proportions)
4: rotate left
6: rotate right
shift+space+drag: more rotation control
5: reset rotation to 0
+ and - : zoom in and out
1: reset zoom
2: zoom to fit page
3: zoom to page width
shift+drag: resize brush
ctrl+click: color pick
thank you for this!!
thankss :)
tyyyy ♥
Much appreciated. :]
This is the most important screenshot I’ve ever taken :)
"start with a really rough sketch" proceeds to draw face that looks better than everything I ever made
"alright, so we're just gonna play a few practice notes here"
*Beethoven's Grosse Fuge commences*
We all start off as kids scribbling with crayons, after that we progress at our own rates. Just keep learning and practicing and don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle. ❤️
I feel ya buddy 💀
Bruh 😂🖐️
I came here to say exactly this XD But it's nice to see someone who is, so to speak, so organically good, and the art just flows, and you feel you can follow, even if my own drawings are way below this one. But that's OK. I love learning and seeing other people's styles.
I'm mixed on this video:
Good: I really like how you talk about setting things up, and navigation. I also like you taking to show & explain your preferred brushes.
Bad: Once you start painting - You speed everything up, and don't show how to do some of the important bits, like how to setup masks in layers.
For the next video, would you mind taking a few to slow down on parts, like masks, layers and other things you're doing, and show how to do that? (For those who are getting started in drawing, not just getting started in Krita.)
yeah right .. thats the most difficult part T_T
I agree! Layers in Krita are not intuitive plus you open a menu which I assume was the brush setting but there is not explanation to what you were changing
She can't reveal everything. At least at once.
She just whizzed through everything. I know how to draw and paint, I just need to know how to do it on krita 💀
The thing where she's straightening her lines up, I'm like YES, THAT! HOW DO I DO THAT!? 😂 But she wizzed by it like it wasn't important.
The tutorial started off great, not only pointing us to the important tools but also explaining why they are important, but after you gave your favourite pencils everything went ridiculously fast and I can only search for other tutorials now to properly understand it.
yeah wtf it went downhill
i thought i was the only one that got totally lost
Oml I slowed it down to x0.25 trying to see what on earth she was clicking to edit everything and it was still too fast 🥲
@@AngeryBee yeah as someone who has used krita for over a year now, this is not a tutorial on how to digitally paint either, as she seems to just color underneath the sketch rather than refining it much or blending? nor is a tutorial on krita. really confused lol.
Her messy sketch is more perfect than what I'll be able to do in my entire life.

I’ve been using Krita for the past year now (I’ve never done digital drawing prior to using Krita), and even after using the program for so long your video still taught me things I didn’t know yet! Thank you so much for making this video ✨
Dynamite tutorial for a advanced or beginner digital painters. I am sure I will watch this over and over again getting more and more out of it every time I get stuck and/or progress. Thank you.

For some reason I have no motivation to draw and I’m really sad but I’m watching your videos for motivation
Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear that!! 😞 I really hope you feel better soon and your motivation comes back!! 💖
Jenna Drawing thank you :[
Hope you'll get better and find that motivation. Try to come back to the things that made you have interest in drawing at the first place.
Totham thank you ☺️

I find motivation by drawing the things i like- i mean uhm like my otp’s, my oc’s.. when that doesn’t work, i choose my favorite event from that day (yesterday i drew something with stormy weather) and make it a whole story-like art.
i hope that works for you :(
Good luck :))
i like how your "sketchy and loose" sketch is 1000x cleaner than my "clean" sketching ability oops
I may need to work on that

That favourite brush part is soooo welcome! Thanks for that! For beginner like me (literally bought the tablet 2 hours ago) the amount of power those programs have is a bit overwhelming so simplification helps a lot!
For some reason I can't find any of the brushes she uses in the default version
I’m still very new to art in the grand scheme of things (still just under a year!) and I use krita- clicked on this to see how much I’m missing out on and was so heartwarmed to see so many things I do incorporated into the list. Makes me feel good- I’m actually on the right path. ❤️ the painting was gorgeous, by the way!
"1st step is to start with really rough sketch" me like wHat?!
Imma just draw a rought sketch of team snakemouth from bug fables as they are not too hard to draw

Friendly reminder she started in 2012. Some ppl thinks it's talent. But I honestly think talent only ignite your passion. It is up to your love for it and determination of self-improving that will maintain that flame.
I was having really bad problems with pen lag and gave up on using Krita on my newish computer, but your second tip on the trilinear filtering seems to have fixed it! It's now running even smoother than I expected, so thank you!
I really appreciate this tutorial. I came here out of frustration with Pixlr. The poster is clear, concise, not self-aggrandizing, humble (shows a rendition she regrets), not a hawker, and emotes general goodwill. I'm excited to try this, and I hope other presenters follow your example.
Professional artist: draws good sketch after years of practice
unfunny commenters with nothing interesting to say: OMG!!! HER SKETCH IS BETTER THAN MY WHOLE PIECE

Insane digital painting. Really love the use of contrast and techniques too.
Just got a Wacom pad from my children and downloaded Krita - had a play, went online, found this video. Wow! You’ve definitely inspired me. Amazing artwork and commentary
OMG perfect timing I was just using Krita (more like attempting to use it) yesterday and all of my work ended up deleting itself after I saved it. And it was actually a drawing I was proud of because I have no idea how to use Krita, so this is the best timing ever. I can finally learn how to use Krita properly and get taught by one of my favorite CZcamsrs 🙌💖🎉

unbelievable!! When I drew, my lines were never perfect. I made the beginnings of this video things, my lines became very clear and beautiful. thank you
Thank you so, so much for this incredibly helpful tutorial!! ❤ I've just started practising with Krita, and it's been pretty overwhelming. You've really narrowed it down to the most essential functions, and I'm feeling a lot more confident now! 😊 Thank you!
How is your rough sketch 10x better than my full attempt at the artwork 😭😭😭
I didn't comment at the time but this helped me last year so much. One of the best tutorials I've seen. Lots of info and easy and interesting to watch. Tysm
Yeah, this video was really helpful!
This is a very helpful tutorial. I am mainly a photographer and artist for digital art with experience in pen & paper works. All my work is made with trackball and keyboard, but I got me a drawing tablet recently. Right now I am in the process of testing programs for DTs and Krita was my first choice, since it's free. Your tutorial helps a lot getting into it. Thank You!
Really appreciate the bit about breaks, im so used to watching time-lapses that it's easy to forget how much time is actually spent
Whoever disliked this was jealous of her skill.
i disliked it because she didn't tell us anything on how to actually paint in krita - she just talked about brushes. shes very talented - but this is not a tutorial
@@rachelfoss9447 She ain't wrong tho, painting is not program specific. If she's mentioning a software, she's most probably gonna talk about it only.

I've never used the clipping mask button ... its like 5 steps fewer than my routine for shading... I'm happy to have found it but I'VE BEEN USING KRITA FOR YEARS .... Welcome to digital art I guess😅. I very much appreciate you showing us what you know. Coming from someone who doesn't do digital art barely at all, I was pretty much able to keep up with everything up to the brush selection. After that, your method of how to draw/paint makes me want to have more detailed tutorials covering all that.

Hello Jenna. I found your tutorial extremely informative. Painting isn't my gift. I'm really a crafter. I turned to your tutorial because I'm interested in finding a graphics program to make designs for my stencils. As you can probably guess, I've never used a digital art program either. I really appreciate the tips you shared about Krita. I've downloaded it and am learning to use it.

I loved this tutorial a lot. I initially came to learn about Krita but then you taught me so much more. I also wondered how long you took to finish the work. And your emphasize on mental health is absolutely true. Burn out should be avoided. I am using Krita in Linux and it's so smoother than Photoshop in Windows. I loved it but then there is that learning curve.

Krita has been one of my comfort painting programmes for a while, I just really adore the brushes.
Something that I would find super helpful would be a sort of more in-depth video on digital colour picking, like picking colours that look nice, picking colours for shadows and for lighting, making all the colours work together, making it look somewhat realistic without the colours looking muddy, stuff like that. For some reason this is something I struggle with a lot digitally even when sticking to the basic 'rules', while I'm doing fine with it with traditional art.
I agree ♥️ lighting and color harmony
