This brings back so many memories of being in Memphis, loved it all, Elvis sure put Memphis on the map and it is wonderful to be a part of his life going to all the famous "Elvis places"
This Is Awesome, Thank You For Sharing, Now I Wish I Could Go Back To Memphis, I Will Look Mike Up For Sure, I Have Loved Him Since I First Heard That's All Right MommA In 1954 And I Sure Miss Him!
this is definitely going to be saved to my favourites list.. I was in Memphis just a little over a month ago, went to Sun records, Beale Street, the spot where Martin Luther King JR was so wrongly assassinated and to where he and his wife are laid to rest and finally to Tupelo, Elvis's birth home and house, then on to the beautiful Graceland and to see Elvis and his family's resting place. such fantastic places, I would definitely recommend going to anyone. I plan to go back pretty soon. with love from England xxx
A beautiful posting,I was born in 1942, so can you imagine what, in austere Britain seeing, albiet by photos followed by movies, what Elvis was like, it was an event which inveigled our physche and has remained there ever since, I have visited Beale street, Gracelands, Sun Studios, the Peabody Hotel, met Bernard Lansky, [a lovely chap who insisted we be photographed with him], I have seen most of the world but the Deep South, even as I type, still pulls me, I love it.
That movie has a lot of heart. My favorite scene is Harvey Keitel sitting on staircase to second floor at Graceland, crying: "There's nobody here." Tears my heart out.
This morning , I was with my life long friend , Billy Blackwood , present owner of the Blackwood Brothers Quartet . In the video , Its said the Blackwood Brothers sang at Elvis's church , Yes and NO , Yes they sang there , But were long time members of the Church . The reason Gladys Presley decided that was going to be the church Elvis was raised in. * * It's also were Elvis was inspired to sing from the Blackwood Brothers back in the 1940's .
Beautiful Video, I've been there walking around and I can relate. Thanks for sharing it with us all .Hard not to feel the Kings' presence! I spent time at Sun records and listen to tapes of Elvis and the trio. It was like they were there. Of course I spent time at Graceland Also. Great job...Keep em comin...I'm .Listening.....The Captain.....
At 2:25 it says Elvis opened for Johnny Cash at Overton Park Bandshell. This is wrong, Elvis opened for Slim Whitman at the bandshell on July 30, 1954. Johnny Cash didn't start recording for Sun until 1955.
actually when i was over there last december, i was told that he had in fact just filled it in and covered it over. so i believe it can be brought back by the next owner. my source was mike freeman who had once owned it.
3:05 Wow! Poplar Tunes. In the 60s and 70s this was the premier record store for miles around. They had thousands of current and older records, along with demo records that you could play and if you liked them they would sell you a sealed new copy of the record. Record Shops and drug stores from all over the Mid-South would buy their stock from them. They had 45 singles in stacks four or five feet high of all the current hits. They opened two other stores , one on Summer avenue out east and another near Shelby drive on the south side. They survived into the early 1990s. I went there frequently but never saw Elvis. They were famous for having any record or LP that you could ask for regardless of its age.
LOVE IT! And what a great way to start out this 33rd anniversary of Elvis death! Thank u for uploading this. I honestly thought I had seen this, as I love the song, but I was wrong. Thanks again, gr8 job! Favorited!!
I found another ( small ) mistake. But, Before I tell, I love this video. They show Elvis's church and say, The Blackwood Brothers sang their. Really, That is were James Blackwood, his late brother R.W.Blackwood and all of the Blackwood family went to church. Gladys Presley loved the Blackwood Brothers Quartet . Elvis had them sing at her funeral service there at the church.
Good point. Stax was important. Elvis recorded there when the place was on the way out. If memory serves -- he recorded Promised Land there. I toured the museum about a year ago. It's an amazing place. They have a big display board of glory, showing the artists who recorded there. Not a single reference to Elvis. Irritated me. But I made this video long before I knew that.
5:33 Ellis auditorium. It might not be used for concerts anymore, but the building is still there. One of the ramps off of I-40 actually ends at Front Street at the building. I attended several excellent concerts there, but not Elvis.
Elvis hated being called The King for that same reason. He stopped many concerts just to ask people politely to discontinue that. Someone caught him saying that and put it on You Tube for you to hear.
Elvis was overly sensitive about being called "king". Remember, he didn't like being called "Elvis the Pelvis" either. Arnold Palmer was the "king" of golf. Johnny Carson was the "king" of late night. Etc. Etc. Nobody's going to hell for words, only deeds.
This brings back so many memories of being in Memphis, loved it all, Elvis sure put Memphis on the map and it is wonderful to be a part of his life going to all the famous "Elvis places"
made me cry for Elvis.....so wish he was still alive and enjoying the city & home he loved so much. Excellent video!

Memphis has history.
But Elvis put it on the map.

Nice video - how about Stax records? Didn't he record there once?

i think actually that slim whitman was the headliner at the shell and johnny and elvis were both guest artists on equal terms,
Elvis Presley was the king of rock and roll but Jesus Christ is the universal King!.
Elvis hated being called The King for that same reason. He stopped many concerts just to ask people politely to discontinue that. Someone caught him saying that and put it on You Tube for you to hear.

Where exactly is the memphian theatre?
51 Cooper
also go tigers :)
uri geller never got the property, it went to mike curb for a million bucks.
Agur. María. Estitxu.
yea, and Mike Curb promptly ripped out the swimming pool that Elvis had put in, and loved so much. Such a shame.
Sad :,(
Too bad Memphis isn't his hometown. Tupelo is.
Tupelo is his birth town, but Memphis is where he grew up, so Memphis IS his home town.
Memphis Tennessee isn't his hometown
Born in Tupelo, MS ... But he was raised in Memphis from age 13.
Fantastic, very good. thank you
