- How are illegal guns getting into Canada? It often starts like this. Private gun sales are common and legal in the state, as long as the buyer lives in Texas. No background check or paperwork is required. CBC’s Jorge Barrera went undercover to find out what the process looks like. Watch the full investigation: • How are illegal guns g...

It's easy to buy a gun in Texas because IT'S LEGAL TO SELL OR BUY A GUN IN TEXAS. If there's a crime here, it's YOU trying to smuggle a gun back into CANADA.
Yep, hope he is arrested and thrown in jail.

I have my own in Ontario 😂
Yes, that’s how easy it is to legally purchase a gun in Texas but I can just as easily buy an illegal gun in Toronto…

yeah but the banning of that gun obviously wouldn't have made a dent in the crime rates one way or the other... Of no one expected that to reduce overall crime rates.

You're intentionally breaking multiple laws and should be prosecuted.

@@Commander-Helofirst he’s not an American citizen
@@Gun_Nut361 so it’s illegal to be there or is it illegal to buy a gun like that cause he’s not a citizen?
@@Commander-Helo in the state of Texas, you need to be a resident of the state, which can be proven with a government issued ID. You can sell out of state, however the ATF needs to be notified. US federal laws restrict any illegal or legal person within the US that is not a citizen to be able to purchase a gun. Even if he did buy the gun, transporting it across every state to get to Canada would be breaking multiple laws and crossing into Canada with the firearm is other set of charges.

Obviously this flew right over your head😂😂😂
Nobody mention how easy it is to legal purchase a gun in canada...
You can literally do the same thing here lol
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed
Also- in order for the sale to be legal, the buyer must not be a 'prohibited posessor,' or the SELLER risks becoming a 'prohibited posessor' as well- if they aren't already. If THAT'S the case, it's NOT a legal sale.
fun fact: the point he’s trying to make here is also null and viod because as a lawful traveler in the united states he actually is allowed to purchase firearms but in this case he’s trying to impose canadian law on what is perfectly legal to do in texas. (source: i was bornnin singapore and moved to America. checked with the local sheriffs department and that’s what i was told in regards to the law)
Everyone knows all you need to do is go to a liquor store and buy a bottle of Jack. You'll get a free gun with every purchase.
Only people of culture know where that's from.
You break the law to purchase a firearm. Then put it on camera. 👍
They must be awfully desperate in Canada, if they are willing to go all the way to Texas to purchase a gun.
Legal.....as it should be
private sales are not controlled by gov...all sales of arms cannot by infringed
Then, how can you ensure that these guns will not become a tool used by a serial killer.
@@yasaralamin1246 You can make the same argument with a gun store. Simple answer is that you can't. We don't do pre-crime and we should not attempt to do so
@somerandomdude343 It's not the same because if you buy it from a gun store in a state with strict gun laws, you will not be allowed to hold a gun without a license. But in states like Texas, you have the right to hold a gun even if you don't have a license. So obviously, in these states, you have the right to hold a gun even if you have mental health issues, criminal records, or are under age. Also in these states, parents have authority to decide if their children are responsible enough to hold arms, and as you know, parents are not as efficient as the FBI in deciding who is responsible and who is not. We can trust a man to use a gun, but we can not trust him to give this gun to another man just because he seems nice and peaceful.
@@yasaralamin1246 If I have never commited a crime and I have not been diagnosed then I can buy a gun from anywhere it is legal to do so. If I then go commit a crime with the gun there was no warning without assuming I had ill intent before I did anything.

With all purchases of firearms in the states you are required to be fully licensed, regardless of country or state. My gun license allows for me to purchase firearms in the states, but I am legally required to inform the border that I am bringing them across. I will be pulled in to a border crossing and have to go through the process of checking my license, reviewing whether they are legal in Canada or not, and pretty much exactly what I would go through with in purchasing a gun here in Canada. People who purchase guns illegally are criminals and do not make up the majority of gun owners. People who bring firearms over the border illegally are criminals and not law abiding gun owners. Look up the states on the percentage of gun ownership in Canada and then against gun crime in Canada and you will see that law abiding gun owners are no the issue, but criminals who will never declare they have a gun.
@@loserb85 Okay, but what about that makes what was said in this video untrue?
You don't have the right to defend yourself in Canada. Maybe start there. That's worth thinking about.
he recorded it like if he’s doing an illegal activity. it’s 100 percent legal . he’s just trying to make it look bad when nothing bad is going on or happening
What a waste of taxpayer dollars. Yes, in other countries they have different laws. This can affect us in different ways. Now let's focus on what we CAN do something about and that is focus on our OWN country.
It is very disturbing, your description of this video. It's true that Texas does not maintain a firearm registry but there is a federal registry for certain types of guns, as well as a registry of weapons used in crimes both federally and locally. Firearms dealers that sell the weapons listed under federal laws, machine guns, short-barrelled shotguns, etc, will also have all of their weapons registered federally. Most people don't buy their guns from a private seller unless it is a collectable, because the money you save may be lost in the work you need to have done to make it serviceable. Also, if the seller is not someone you know, you may end up with a weapon that is associated with a crime, which can put you in some legal jeopardy if you can't track it back to the seller. I'm not pro-gun, nor am I anti-registry/background check. I am pro-ethical and pro-factual reporting.
That mans never heard of a far away land called canada 😂😂
And I'm so happy you can buy a gun off the street. We're much safer that way. No joke
Can't you basically do the same thing in Toronto
a full size pistol is prohibited in canada?
All handguns I believe are banned
Canada is such a mess.
They're grandfathered but they banned the sale of handguns. Very few Canadians owned them since they required a special permit. Eg the ban pretty much slapped target shooters and collectors in the face.
@dannomite_82 there are 1.1 million handguns in private hands. That can still be used at the range. Yes they banned the sale and transfer of them, but they are not prohibited.
@@hanksamuelson yeah they're grandfathered in. But basically, sport shooters and collectors can't sell theirs or buy new ones. Higher than I thought, but compared to rifles/shotguns it's a drop in the bucket. Point was more that those guns are owned by responsible people who already had to jump through hoops to get them (versus anyone crazy that wants to buy one) and the sales ban is pointless.
Journalist buys a gun in the US legally & then tries to smuggle it in to Canada (committing a crime) to attempt to incriminate a law abiding US citizen? He's a special kind of redact isn't he.

The journalist committed multiple felonies at the federal and state levels. He needs to be prosecuted.
Just 2 people making a private transaction in a populated public area during broad daylight... exactly how it should be.
This just further proves that even if they ban guns, youll always be able to get one on the streets.
For those American who don’t get it. The point of this is to show how easy it is for a Canadian to acquire an illegal weapon In the US in which they could later smuggle into Canada.
The US is basically the entire source of illegal firearms that enter Mexico and Canada, and sadly American don’t see this as a problem.
I love how journalists are willing to break the law in order to “prove” how easy it is to get a gun. Everyone knows about the black and gray markets, now go to a gun store and actually fill out a 4473. I’ve only ever seen maybe 1 or 2 journalists show them filling out a background and talk about it when it comes to buying a gun. Also, if you had been a Texas citizen, that transaction would’ve been perfectly legal. Even then the guy could’ve said he had no reason to believe you were not a resident of Texas and no reason to believe you were a criminal. Also why go all the way down to Texas? Why not like Michigan or Montana or something much closer?
Yeah, it’s not a crime to sell your gun here… only way it’s a crime is if you KNOW the other person is a convicted felon
