  • The already incredible Toyota GR Yaris has received a substantial mid-cycle update for 2024, evolving the rally-bred hot hatch into an even sharper performance machine. Debuting at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, the enhanced GR Yaris benefits from more power, new transmission options, and chassis improvements to deliver an even greater driving experience.
Under the hood, Toyota has extracted an extra 19hp from the turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-three, now producing 280hp and 390Nm of torque. That boost in performance further widens the gap to rivals while providing a truly engaging drive. Toyota focused on durability too, fitting new pistons, strengthened valvetrain, higher fuel injection pressure, and other revisions engineered through Toyota’s motorsports programs.
Arguably the biggest change is a new eight-speed automatic transmission engineered specifically for the GR Yaris. The lightning-quick gearbox focuses on delivering competition-fast shift speeds to improve lap times over the six-speed manual. Toyota tested it extensively in rally competition for durability while tuning the software to predict gear changes based on driver inputs. The auto even outperforms the manual on track. It promises to be a game-changer for accessibility too, letting more drivers exploit the GR Yaris’ performance.
Chassis and steering improvements further elevate the GR Yaris’ handling capabilities. Increased structural rigidity and suspension tweaks sharpen turn-in, enhance steering feedback, and improve grip through high-load corners. Toyota also upgraded the brakes while reducing unsprung weight with new forged alloy wheels.
Inside, Toyota redesigned the cockpit for more accessible controls and improved ergonomics influenced by professional race and rally drivers. New digital instrumentation provides a motorsports-inspired display with a Sport mode for performance driving.
Visually, the enhanced GR Yaris gains Toyota’s new “Precious Metal” paint finish plus revised exterior elements to optimize aerodynamics, including a bolder front grille design. All light units switch to LEDs while a rear garnish change improves stability.
For Europe, Toyota will offer just a single “Circuit” spec reflecting the GR Yaris’ track focus. It bundles a new cooling package as standard consisting of an additional radiator, intake modifications, and intercooler spray.
Overall, the updates look set to cement the GR Yaris’ position as the hottest hot hatch around. Dialed-up performance combines with chassis improvements to stretch its capabilities further, underlined by the introduction of a lightning-fast new automatic transmission. Toyota has lifted the bar once again, evolving this giant-slaying pocket rocket into an even sharper proposition for 2024.

If the GR appears on the marked, this is freaking awesome. - Owning the "original GR", I'm impressed about the innovations. (The power upgrade can easily be reached by fitting a racing air filter and a suitable exhaust to the original GR by the way.)
I love my GR and I'd love that Toyota will continue the GR Yaris line...

In many ways, we are seeing the preview of the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla, especially the new 8-speed automatic that Toyota admitted to testing at least two years ago.

Has anyone else noticed the lines of the door to the a pillar are off near the wing mirrors. It’s a horrible fit. The door line finishes 10mm too low and dips in and you s not flush. Big oversight by Toyota.

doubt it's an oversight but I agree, it does look slightly off. I've never seen one in person since i'm in the states though.

I was interested in a gen1 but cancelled my order as I have 4 cars already . Then gen 2 was announced, now I’m very interested especially the ogier version , £45k for a bog standard one and £60k for the ogier with minor tweaks . Toyota you are having a laugh. I won’t be buying one now. I would’ve bought one at £35k or 38k, or £45k for the ogier one
You’ll also need to add £1200 first year tax
    No thanks

What have they done to that front bumper? They completely ruined what was an amazing front bumper. So sad because they made the car better but way uglier.
