  • “One After 909” is the earliest song from the Let it Be album. Written by John around the age of seventeen, the song was one of the many rehearsed songs during the January 1969 Get Back sessions which would ultimately evolve into Let it Be. The album version was recorded during the famous Rooftop concert on January 30. An alternate studio version can be found on the second disc in the Let it Be: Special Edition.
The earliest version of the song was recorded sometime in the spring of 1960 at Paul’s house in Liverpool. This version can be found on bootlegs as well as on CZcams. It;s got the same sound quality as “You’ll Be Mine” and “Hallelujah! I Love Her So” from Anthology 1 as it was recorded around the same time. The first studio version was recorded on March 5, 1963 in five takes. This session also produced “From Me To You” and the B-side “Thank You Girl”. An early version of Rubber Soul song “What Goes On” was to be attempted that day but was never recorded due to time. Unhappy with the results of “One After 909”, the song was shelved and remained unreleased until 1995 when recordings from that session were released on Anthology 1. Six years passed until the song was re-recorded in 1969 and released on Let it Be.
I’m not sure what Ringo was thinking during the sessions, but his hi-hat playing on the entire Let it Be album is remarkable. To keep this unusual pattern clean and steady for nearly three minutes without your left foot getting fatigued can be a challenge. During the first four bars of the song, Ringo only opens his hi-hats on beats one and three before going into the song’s main groove. Ringo drops out during the choruses and accents each line with a flam before going back into the verse. At 1:32, he plays a snare roll transitioning into George’s guitar solo. The song ends at 2:43 with a hard hit before John breaks into the opening lines of “Danny Boy” as the song fades.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it!

Everybody gave it their all for this performance and you've highlighted Ringo's part perfectly. Someone should sync up Sam's guitar cover with David's drum cover, and fast!

You literally rocked the hell out of that song on the drums, also, did you know there were two more versions of this song?! The first one was recorded back in early 1960 as a Quarrymen Home rehearsal and featured Paul McCartney on a Regular Guitar, Stuart Sutcliffe on Bass and no drummer, The Second version was recorded in 1963 sometime after they recorded For Me To You, and it wasn’t released until the Anthology 1 album in 1995.
